Guest speaker – Marcie Waldron… (she was running late so we moved around our schedule. She came to talk about organ donation.) Marcie is part of the Kiwanis club of Sonoma Plaza. She came wearing pink dots to support her cause. She handed out her business cards and Frisbees. She received organs from a donor who saved her life. Many people die waiting for an organ. The wait list currently is an 8-year long list. Marcie shared her story and told about the boy who donated the kidneys and pancreas. His life saved five people’s lives. Usually, someone must be considered brain dead to donate organs. Dispelling a myth - Doctors will work just as hard to save your life as with a non-organ donor. They don’t even check the card until the donor is dead. Harvesting doctors take a moment of silence for the life just lost before they do the surgery. 90% of all transplants are for kidney transplants. Think about saving lives and not about yourself. Organ donation can be seen as solace for those mourning their loved one’s loss. The people they save can be their legacy. Everyone can give life to others. Make an informed choice about this. You can sign-up at the age of thirteen to be an organ donor, even if you don’t have a driver’s license. Last year, Marcie set a goal of getting a thousand people in her town to become organ donors, and about fourteen hundred people signed up. District Convention- Still able to register but now $249 - should be received by March 1st. SEND THEM IN NOW. DCON is a great experience. Key Leader- You can register online now. All forms, details and a link to the registration site are under “Member Resources” on our Region 15 website. Contact Region Advisor Sue Cummins about getting a $35 scholarship. The dates of this year’s Key Leader are April 22-24. The total is $225 and $175 for a facilitator. Depending on your Kiwanis club they may pay for all of it. It is in Occidental this year. Educationi. Eliminate Week- Key Club has been working with UNICEF to eliminate neonatal tetanus. Kiwanis “Eliminate Week” is May 7 through May 11th. This is a great time to plan fundraisers and plan different ways to help support this cause. Each day of the “Week” has a theme. Make sure to raise awareness at your school and in your community. ii. Children’s Miracle Network- We showed a different video than we expected- the 2015 Leadership Meeting video instead. It was a very moving video. It was about a man who helped a boy become a more responsible person, proving that his invested time was worth it. It reminded us all that we don’t always see the benefits of our service to others, but there ALWAYS are benefits! AAR Score Presentation- Sophie showed a presentation on AAR scores. This can be found on the division website- where all the previous PowerPoints can be located. It was a reminder that clubs have some great opportunities for activities during the month of March. Some suggestions were to hold a joint Board meeting with your current and upcoming club officers, have your newly elected club officers attend a Kiwanis meeting to introduce themselves, attend the Division Banquet, ask your Kiwanis club about the upcoming Kiwanis One Day, and more.

New Business • New Elected Officer Information- Fatima needs new officers to register on the form she sent out. • IHOP CMN fundraiser- March 8th at any local IHOP. You go, you eat their pancakes for free, and you donate to the Children’s Miracle Network. • Division Banquet- March 12th 2-5 p.m, at the Salvation Army Center, on Stony Circle. It is Disney themed! So remember to dress up. Fatima is sending around a Google form that must be completed for advance registration. It is $7. $10 at door for those who don’t pre-register. • March of Dimes/March for Babies- Jessie gave a presentation on the cause. For the March for Babies we will be volunteering on April 23rd- on the same day as Key Leader, unfortunately. So, we’ll need to have anyone not going to Key Leader do this event, instead. • Kiwanis One Day- This is April 2nd, but get in contact with your Kiwanis club to learn of any plans they may be making for the day. Strengthen your Ohana! This is a day, world-wide that Kiwanis and Key Club do joint, local projects, together. • Next Division Council Meeting- Will be held at the banquet.
