Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men. -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Austin Lucero is a 2015 graduate of Portales High School. Some activities he participated in were basketball, tennis and National Honor Society. His most memorable moment in high school

was playing a semifinal basketball game at The Pit his senior year.

If he could be the best at any one thing, he would choose basketball.

Lucero plans to attend college at Eastern New Mexico University for one or two years and then transfer to the University of New Mexico to pursue a mechanical engineering degree.

If he were stranded on an island with only his clothes and three other items, what would they be? “A machete, a fire starter, and a water purifier,” he said.

He would describe his perfect day on the beach somewhere with family and his girlfriend. Lucero says if he had an unlimited source of money, he would spend it on some fancy cars and a house in Hawaii.

He would like to advise underclassmen to enjoy high school while they can. “It will be over before you know it,” he said. Lucero envisions his life in 10 years with a wife, a couple of kids with a good job and a nice house.

If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door. -Milton Berle

Name: Kenzee Mae Criswell Age: 17 School: Elida High School Kenzee Criswell is a 2015 graduate of Elida High School. The activities she participated in this year were Future Farmers of America, 4-H, varsity volleyball, varsity basketball, varsity baseball, varsity track and National Honor Society. Her most memorable moments in high school all involved the basketball and volleyball courts, FFA and 4-H activities, she said; not one moment stood out from the others. Criswell plans to

attend college at Texas Tech University on a judging scholarship and major in agriculture communications or animal nutrition. Prior to attending Texas Tech, Criswell will judge livestock for two years. “I have committed to judging on the livestock judging team at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas,” she said. Criswell describes her perfect day with being at the lake or spending the day at a stock show with her closest friends and family. If she had an unlimited source of money, what would she do with it? “First I would buy a house in Oklahoma or south Texas. Then I would go on every cruise possible. I would visit every state and country and donate money to those in need,” she said. If Criswell were stranded on an island with only her clothes

and three other items, what would they be? “The other items would be an unlimited food source, a GPS, and a super powered boat that was powered by water so that I could leave the island,” she said. The advice she’d like to give to underclassmen is to know that what’s coming will come, and you will meet it when it does. “Don’t stress too much about school and don’t let the memories with friends and family get away from you because that is what you will remember most. Also enjoy it, and get involved in any organizations you can because they will teach you so much more than any class you take,” she said. Criswell envisions her life in 10 years working as a spokesperson for an agriculture association. She hopes to have a boyfriend or husband by then and live in South Texas.

other items, what would they be? “I would have a tent with supplies, my Kindle with an unlimited battery and library access, and my iPod," she said.

Essary would describe her perfect day as an overcast and rainy day where she wouldn’t feel bad staying inside in sweats and watching movies or sitting on her back porch watching the rain come in.

The advice she’d like to give to underclassmen is to always be polite, say please and thank you, say sorry a lot and mean it. “Try and live out your school days to the fullest and with little regrets. Don’t try to stay too safe because looking back 20 years you will realize that you didn’t do anything fun because you were scared you were going to get hurt. Be cautious, but not too cautious," she said.

If she had an unlimited source of money, how would she spend it? “I would spend it on trying to find a cure for cancer,” she said. Essary said if she could be the best at any one thing, it would be to be a good communicator.” More often than not, I’m in awkward situations where I say the wrong thing to someone and lose connection with them in fear that I’ve hurt them,” she said. If she were stranded on an island with only her clothes and three

In 10 years, Essary envisions herself working at a rural school as a speech language pathologist. She would already have started her conquest to travel the world. Hopefully, she will have a serious relationship somewhere in that time frame, she said.

Hurt’s most memorable moments in high school were the times she spent with classmates at fundraisers or events. “Going to prom will be an event that I will always remember. Another time is when our senior class got together at our sponsor Mrs. Tivis' house for class pictures. We had a lot of fun goofing off and eating Mr. Tivis' hamburgers. The pictures turned out fantastic and it was the closest our class has ever been with each other,” she said.
Hurt plans to attend the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri. “I chose this college because it has an excellent

academic program, a beautiful campus, and a strong Christian atmosphere. I'm not fully sure what I want to major in, but I'm considering nursing and the study of theology. This is because I am very interested in the medical sciences and mission field,” she said.
She would describe her perfect day as everyone being genuinely happy to spend time with one another. “Spending a day with a friend who truly cares about you and is going to miss you when you leave. My friends and I are going to be spending a lot of time together this summer so that we can treasure the moments we have together,” she said.

If she could be the best at any one thing, what would she choose? “I would want it to be management, studying, and essay formatting skills. Therefore, I would be able to manage my life easily, study effectively enough to get the best grades, and write essays with no stress,” she said.

The advice she’d like to give to underclassmen is that even if high school seems hard now, just keep trudging through because it will all be worth it. “You'll get to graduate and start your life on your own with the intelligence to do it. Just keep your head up; you're almost there!
