POINTING KIDS IN THE RIGHT DI RECTION
We are passionate... About developing quality, affordable children’s material. Our definition of quality refers not only to the physical product, but also its content. Our products are developed from a non-denominational Christian vantage point. We believe that a sound spiritual foundation is the best way to build an emotionally healthy child.
Understanding each phase Our products, Bibles and books help each phase of a developing child.
0-18 months In the bonding phase (0-18 months) it is important for the baby to connect with his/her parent(s). This phase can be summed up as follows: I am ... because I am looked after. The outcome of this phase is trust versus mistrust. Trust is developed as a result of the loving connection between child and parent(s) – I can trust other people. During this phase the focus is on emotional as opposed to cognitive responses.
18 m - 3 years The exploring phase (18 months – 3 years) is summed up by I am ... what I can do. The outcome of this phase is autonomy versus shame or doubt. Through the loving interaction with the parent(s) the child learns I can.
4-6 years Children in this phase of development can be summed up in two sentences: I am ... what I can imagine and I am ... what I can achieve. Based on a greater independence and emotional perception of I am (their identity), the toddler begins to explore their world. The result of this phase is a sense of purpose. This is the first phase of real learning as children eagerly try to figure out how the world works. Our products help children “to climb inside” the Bible and other stories. Within the parameters of their understanding and emotional levels they are able to become part of, and play within the story. In this way the Bible as well as Bible stories become part of their lives and the world they live in.
7-12 years Children in this phase of development can be summed up in the sentence: I am ... how I relate to another person. By this time children have developed their own identity with regards to how they relate to their parent(s) and to the rest of the family. The next step is discovering how they relate to other people socially. The opinions of their peer group and friends are very important to them. Our products help children to better embrace this stage with diligence and enthusiasm. They learn that in God they are capable, because they are created in His image.
13+ years Children in this phase of development can be summed up in the sentence: I am ... who I am now discovering. The three questions children in this developmental stage need to find answers to are: Who am I? (Reassurance regarding who they are) To which group do I belong? (Reassurance regarding their social identity) What do I want to accomplish? (Reassurance regarding values and ideals) Our products for children in this phase help them find meaningful answers to these questions.
We connect it all ... At CMP we strive to aid children during each of their important phases.
Christian Media Publishing takes the command of Jesus, “let the children come to me” (Mark 10:14), seriously. With each publication we want to point children in the right directions. Our goal is simple ... Proverbs 22 vs 6: “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” That is why every book serves as a stepping stone for a child’s spiritual growth.
