Letter from the President
Dear Alumnae/i and Friends:
During the recent Reunion and Homecoming Weekend, I had the privilege of meeting and engaging with more than 300 alums and friends of the College. Witnessing the faithfulness Mount graduates held for each other and the College affirmed something I concluded in the early days of my presidency—that a hallmark of this community is its shared mercy, grace, help, and trust when there are individual and collective struggles. This is truly a place where people “show up” for one another.
In this Annual Report, we gratefully acknowledge all those who showed up for the College during the fiscal year 2020-2021. The generosity of the individuals listed in the following pages ensured the College possessed resources to respond, in a mission appropriate manner, to a global health pandemic and the resulting increased financial challenges facing our students and their families. As a result of your partnership—remarkably demonstrated by your response to the Board of Trustees' Alumni and Friends Grant Challenge—the College is emerging from this period strong and ready to meet the needs of learners of every background. Thank you for everything you make possible for the students we serve.
The Mount’s vibrant community is one reason why this is the #RightPlaceOnTheRiver and we are delighted to use this Annual Report to highlight others. You will learn why the Mount will remain the right place for first-generation college students and others from groups underserved by higher education, the right place to prepare for a career as a healthcare professional, the right place for the development of the whole person, and the right place for the cultivation of ethical servant leaders devoted to the common good.
Again, my sincere thanks for all that you do in support of the College. On a personal level, I offer my gratitude for the warm and enthusiastic welcome I have received from so many of you. Joining the Mount Saint Vincent community, and in the work of this great institution, is a tremendous privilege and joy. I look forward to all that we will achieve together in service to the Mount, its students, its mission, and its values.
With appreciation,
Susan R. Burns, Ph.D.
