DID YOU KNOW? The College of Mount Saint Vincent is among the five oldest colleges in New York City—it was also the first women’s college in NYC and has been coed since 1974. The College was initially founded as the Academy of Mount Saint Vincent and sat along Fifth Avenue and 110th Street in Harlem (McGowan’s Pass)—the northeast corner of what is now Central Park.

Corazon C. Aquino, who led the 1986 People Power Revolution that restored democracy to the Philippines, was the first female President of the Philippines, the first female president in Asia, and was a graduate of the Mount.

In 1859, the Academy moved to Riverdale, the northernmost point in NYC. In 1911, its charter was amended, changing its name to the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
The Dolphin, specifically nicknamed “Vinny,” provides our mascot with an identity consistent with the school’s mission: In the spirit of Vincent de Paul and Elizabeth Ann Seton, we foster an understanding of our common humanity, a commitment to human dignity, and a OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM: Students to are full appreciation of our obligations involved with 40+ clubs and 15 varsity NCAA each other. ACCREDITATION: The College of Mount Saint Vincent is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Fonthill Castle was built in 1852 as the country estate of Shakespearean actor Edwin Forrest. Today, the Castle and three other campus buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many productions have been filmed at the Mount, including the 2008 film Doubt, as well as many episodes of Law & Order, The Sinner, and The Blacklist.
