Graduate students at the College of Mount Saint Vincent work closely with faculty who are experts and industry leaders in business, education, health care, and community development. Our professors are active in your graduate experience, helping students develop key analytical, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. This approach ensures graduates are equipped for ethical and responsible leadership roles in their selected field of study, both nationally and internationally.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION The M.B.A. program equips students with leadership skills and business acumen to serve both the profit and not-for-profit sectors. The program offers a student-centered learning environment within a curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The ACBSP accreditation standards are modeled on the Baldridge National Quality Program, which focuses on a student-centered learning approach in the classroom. During your time in the program, students select coursework from a variety of concentrations, including: Health Care Management; International Business; Management of Nonprofit Organizations; and a comprehensive track, allowing students the opportunity to select desired courses of study from each concentration. Students work closely with faculty who are active in the region’s thriving business community, ensuring graduates are prepared for leadership and management roles.

EDUCATION The M.S. in Education includes three degree options. For those who aspire to teach, our M.S. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), the M.S. in Adolescent Education and Special Education (Dual Certification), and the M.S. in Childhood Education and Special Education (Dual Certification) offer value-centered curricula and real-world experience. Students learn how to create a productive learning environment for a diverse range of educational settings and students, while developing the specialized knowledge to effectively teach different student populations. Accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council, the Mount’s teaching programs are ideal for those with their sights sets on becoming educational leaders. Our graduates often lead the way, both formally and informally, and have a significant impact on their student’s lives and outcomes. Both education programs lead to New York State certification.

DUAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS: ADOLESCENT EDUCATION AND SPECIAL EDUCATION CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND SPECIAL EDUCATION Both the M.S. in Adolescent Education and Special Education (Dual Certification, Grades 7-12) and the M.S. in Childhood Education and Special Education (Dual Certification, Grades 1-6) are designed for career changers or recent college graduates who wish to receive a New York State teaching license. These 14-month accelerated programs consist of 45 credits and blend vital academic content with practical classroom teaching experience through Teaching Fellows residency programs. Fellows are paired with a classroom teacher who is also their mentor. Teaching Fellows work alongside their mentors in a grade-appropriate classroom, attend school-based staff meetings and professional development seminars, and assume instructional responsibilities as assigned. Before starting classroom-based activities in the fall, all Teaching Fellows attend a College of Mount Saint Vincent summer institute designed to provide the professional knowledge and skills upon which to build a successful career in education. In striving to make graduate school a realistic option for all students, applicants for these programs are automatically considered for scholarships that range from $10,000-$23,000. 4

TESOL The M.S. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is a 30-credit program, consisting of both professional and skills-based clinical courses. The curriculum is designed to prepare prospective teachers of English language learners from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Students who successfully complete this course of study, and who pass the requisite teacher certification content specialty examination, will be eligible for New York State Initial Certification in TESOL. Prior to program completion, students must document completion of 12 credits in a foreign language(s) or sign language. Undergraduate coursework, graduate coursework, or equivalent credit on CLEP or NYU Proficiency will be accepted. Students who successfully complete this graduate program in TESOL will: • Fulfill the academic requirements for New York State initial/professional certification in TESOL. • Be recommended to New York State for initial/professional certification in TESOL K-12. • Be informed of the certification process prior to program completion.

EDUCATION CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN ESOL The Advanced Certificate in ESOL offers a four-course sequence in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. This sequence of courses is specifically designed for individuals who hold an initial or professional certification in a discipline other than Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. This course of study will provide the foundational knowledge needed to successfully address the needs of English Language Learners.

INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SERVICE The M.S. in International Development and Service prepares students to make a positive difference in the world. The program is designed to meet the international demand for socially responsive leaders who can facilitate partnerships in global and diverse communities.

5

Students study a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum, ranging across key issues such as social policy and development, global health, multicultural education, and more. The program integrates learning with substantive, hands-on volunteer service experiences in the United States, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Students gain intercultural competency and learn how to navigate complex partnerships in global communities. They graduate ready to lead agencies that serve diverse populations: global nonprofits, community development organizations, and other service-based institutions. This theory-to-practice graduate program places students in a strong position to secure career-track employment upon graduation, often landing them job offers before they graduate. Please note: The M.S. in International Development and Service degree accommodates two cohorts per year (beginning in the Fall and Spring). Applicants may request program admission for either the Fall semester or the Spring semester.

CONCURRENT DEGREE: INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SERVICE AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Our concurrent degree option combines the College’s M.S. in International Development and Service (IDS) and M.B.A. for as little as 18 additional credits. Students who choose the concurrent degree option will earn a second master’s degree by completing 18 to 27 additional credits through the M.B.A. program. The M.B.A. is distinctive and exclusive in higher education due to its focus on teaching management skills for under-resourced organizations, and it is specifically designed to complement the curriculum of the IDS program, which will equip students with the skills necessary to manage nonprofits and cater to the needs of vulnerable populations. From serving those in need to the nuts and bolts of budgeting, strategic planning, and policy implementation at the organizational level, graduate students gain a valuable portfolio of competencies from this concurrent degree program. 6

NURSING The M.S. in Nursing combines theory, experience, and research, preparing in-service nurses to advance their careers. The program offers a Family Nurse Practitioner specialization to prepare students for new roles in their profession. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking and scholarly inquiry, providing an appropriate foundation for doctoral study in nursing. The program prepares students to incorporate the latest knowledge into their nursing practice and to demonstrate a high degree of competence. Ultimately, students become contributors to the improvement of health care, health policy, and the advancement of the nursing profession.

ACCELERATED BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING DEGREE Accelerated Nursing provides an exceptional opportunity for individuals looking to begin a new career in nursing. Individuals with bachelor’s degrees from accredited colleges or universities in fields other than nursing can earn a nursing degree in a year and a half. Students can pursue Accelerated Nursing at the College’s Riverdale campus or at our midtown Manhattan location. Key benefits of the program include: • Completing your degree in a year and a half. • Studying five days per week with as many as 36 hours of weekly class and clinical hours. • Gaining the same rigorous nursing education enjoyed by students in our traditional undergraduate program. • Studying a curriculum that covers the full range of the profession, from health assessment and pathophysiology to maternity and leadership. • Studying with highly qualified faculty who bring extensive professional nursing experience into the classroom. • Gaining practical, real-world experience in clinicals, including training at the patient’s bedside. 6 7
