SALES PROMOTION This promotion was designed as a competitive strategy to: 1) Show loyalty to our customers by providing a unique “thank you gift to our top 100+ advertisers;

2) To offer advertisers coupons they can use throughout spring semester 2008, especially in anticipation of a tightening economy;

3) To provide a daily reminder of Central Michigan Life with the coffee mugs;

4) To show our creativity. In November, each sales representative delivered a coupon book rolled into the mug, along with a little treat inside, to 6-10 of their best customers. They were a big hit and customers started redeeming the coupons almost immediately. We also work with the sales representatives how to best advise their customers on using these. We work on increasing ad size, use of color and other increases in revenues in conjunction with the coupons.

October 19, 2007 To Whom It May Concern: I would like to invite you to advertise your program and events in three completely new ways. The Daily Titan is now offering affordable online advertising. For $60 you can purchase a “Top Banner” position on our website. This ad will deliver 10,000 page views, which means 10,000 current students, alumni, and members of the community would have the potential to see your ad. The Daily Titan can design your online ad free of charge as well as link to your website. Your organization is also invited to take part in the new Outdoor advertising program. The new Daily Titan paper racks now have a 17”x21” full color poster. These posters are available in high-traffic locations on campus. The locations include everything from the Student Union to the Library. The total investment for this advertising space is $200 per location for a full month. The cost is less than running a quarter page black and white ad once in The Daily Titan. For last minute promotions The Daily Titan offers front page, full-color advertising. Your organization or event may purchase a six column by one-inch banner ad on the front page. The contract runs for a week with full color for only $900. The Daily Titan normally charges $600 for color per day. Your investment would normally cost $2,400. Use this opportunity as a chance to remind students about an event or occasion that week, Included in this envelope is our media kit, which outlines all of the different advertising opportunities. Please feel free to contact me to set up a meeting or to discuss how to promote your organization and special events further. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Stephanie Birditt Advertising Manager The Daily Titan, CSUF P: 714.278.4411 F: 714.278.2702 sbirditt@dailytitan.com

Electronic File Submission Formats, Guidelines & Suggestions The following is a list of guidelines that will help to ensure proper output of your electronically submitted advertisements in the IDS. These suggestions, guidelines and formats will help us to make your ad reproduce at the highest and sharpest quality to maximize the visual and informative impact to our readers. Proofreading

Software

• Carefully proofread and spellcheck everything that you submit to the IDS. • We continually receive ads with spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. • We will do our best to fix and find these errors, but occasionally we cannot fix the problem due to format limitations.

• Optimal output for printing results from programs such as Quark, Adobe products, Multi-Ad and other design software. • Ads created in Microsoft programs may need recreated.

File Information • For accurate production of your ad include the file name, location (disc, e-mail, ftp server) and the software used to create the ad that is being submitted.

Artwork Information • All artwork, graphics, and logos submitted to the IDS should be at least as large as you intend to see them in the paper and ideally at 300 dpi or higher. • Ads that are small or pulled off the internet may cause pixelation and loss of quality.

File Formats

Attach Printouts • Always send a hard copy printout of your ad for proofing purposes. This will allow us to ensure accurate fonts, images and graphics are being used in your ad. • If you have a color advertisement please submit a color printout. This helps to ensure proper placement of color.

Page Size

• All files should be sent in to the IDS as .pdf, .eps, .ai, .tiff, .indd, .qxd or .jpg. • When submitting most files it is necessary to outline all fonts prior to submission. This will ensure proper output of your selected font choices. • You may also submit Mac version fonts. If fonts are submitted, it is necessary to send the entire font family.

• Always create ads at 100% of the intended size at which it will be printed. • If we receive an ad that is smaller than actual final output size, this can lead to pixelation, loss of image quality and legibility. • In some instances, it may be necessary to float your ad in the paid space to prevent poor printing of the advertisement, instead of resizing it.

Color

Spot Color Conversion

• All files should be sent to the IDS in .gif, .jpg or .swf file formats • When using an animated .swf file, we will need the original .fla file. We will add code to the file that will be used for linking and tracking your ad (contact your account executive or e-mail ads@idsnews.com for more details).

0 = 0% 1 = 10% 2 = 20% 3 = 30%

4 = 40% 5 = 50% 6 = 60%

7 = 70% 8 = 80% 9 = 100%

Example: Blue 910 = 100% Cyan, 10% Magenta, 0% Yellow

• For full color advertisements submit CMYK color, not RGB. • If you have a spot color consult the table below on the proper percentages for CMYK plates. • All black and white ads and artwork should be saved as grayscale.

Online

• All files should be no larger than 100 K.
