Breast cancer awareness important for both women, men
A release for awareness
AWARENESS from page 1
“I make these pink ribbons and I hand them out and I tell women and men to go get checked. Go get your yearly physical, get checked, do your self exams,” Frost said. “I am fairly young to get cancer. I was 44 when I was diagnosed, but the more reading I do, the more I realize young people can get it, especially if it is genetic.” According to the NBCAM or-

ganization, when facing big treatment decisions, knowing all you can about that cancer and treatment options can help you feel more in control. Frost couldn’t agree more. “I didn’t know about any of the support on campus like the counseling center,” Frost said. “I didn’t learn about them until after. I don’t think people are as informed about where to go and
what to do.” One of Frost’s new goals is to set up a support group in Laramie for others who find themselves with breast cancer. “They have so many wonderful support groups in Fort Collins where I had my surgery, but there is nothing here,” Frost said. “I know of other women who have had this, had cancer, and have gone through this and it is
nice to talk to them because you can say things to them that other people wouldn’t get. They can understand.” The most recent and prominent campaigns to get on the pink brigade is the National Football League who has started the “crucial catch” campaign. This support to fight against breast cancer from the NFL, its clubs and players is a collabora-
tion with the American Cancer Society. This campaign is focused on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are over the age of 40. Throughout October, NFL games have been featuring players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel to raise awareness for the campaign, as well as on-field pink ribbon stencils and pink coins.
