Contract & Rate Policies All sizes listed are in inches wide by inches tall. Rates and charges are listed at net amount due. The Arbiter reserves the right to reject any advertising copy at any time. Rejection does not nullify the advertiser始s annual contract space requirement obligations. All ads are subject to approval prior to insertion by the Editor-In-Chief. If an advertiser fails to meet the requirements of the signed contract, the advertiser始s contract rate will be adjusted to either the rate earned (based on space actually purchased) or the Local Rate, and the advertiser will be billed accordingly. Advertisers are responsible for 25% of the full cost of space reserved if an ad is cancelled after deadline or has not been received by the publication deadline. Composition, artwork and photography produced by The Arbiter becomes property of The Arbiter and may not be used or reproduced in any other publication or medium or in any other form without prior written consent of the Director. The Arbiter also assumes no financial responsibility for typographical errors, omissions, failure of an ad to be published or other errors beyond our control.

Payment & Billing Invoices are sent out at the end of each week, and statements will be mailed monthly. Terms are net 30 days. For all new advertisers, payment is required prior to publication. For multiple run contracts, 25% of the total contract price must be paid until credit is established. All political advertising must be prepaid. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are gladly accepted. If an account becomes delinquent after 30 days, the account will accrue a finance charge of 1.5% per month (18% APR) or a minimum of $15 and may be turned over to a collection agency.

Deadlines Signed contracts are due six calendar days prior to publication. Proofed ads, or ads submitted by customer, are due three calendar days prior to publication.

Ad Submission Guidelines 6 Steps to Placing an Ad

1wantsize Determine if you a smaller ad for minimal cost, a full page for maximum exposure or something inbetween. See page 5 for common sizes and measurements. You can run an ad as small as 1 column by 2 inches, or as big as 6 columns by 20 inches.

2 rate

Are you a business at our open rate? A non-profit group? Are you eligible for any discounts? Do you want to run in color, which is charged in addition to space? Determine your rate from the options listed on pages 4&5.

3

dates

In which publication(s) will the ad run? Will the ad run multiple times or once? See the publishing schedule on the back cover to select your ad schedule, See page 4 to note the ad deadline.

4 total cost

Multiply the number of total columns wide the ad is by the number of inches tall the ad is. This equals the total column inches. Multiply the total column inches by your rate. This is the cost of the ad. Multiply cost by number of days you want to run to determine total cost of advertising. If it does not match your budget, adjust the ad size or change the frequency of the ad. Work with your advertising representative to determine discounts available to you.

5createcreative Will you the ad yourself and email it to us, or will you send us the content so that our staff can create the ad for you? Check the ad submission guidelines for submitting your ad. Our Creative Services department can create the ad for you, free of charge.

6 payment Do you have an established billing account with the Collegian? If not, we gladly accept cash, check and credit cards.

The Creative Services department of the Rocky Mountain Collegian can create an ad for you at no extra cost. If you are creating the ad yourself, electronic submission is preferred. Ads may be submitted electronically and should be built to the correct ad size. The Collegian reserves the right to reset or resize ads submitted with incorrect dimensions. Adobe Acrobat PDF is the preferred format for receiving files. When creating a PDF file, all fonts must be embedded. TIFF and JPEG files are also acceptable. Minimum resolution should be 300 dpi. GIF, BMP, PICT and images picked from websites do not reproduce well and should not be submitted. Color ads running in black and white should be converted to grayscale. Color ads running in color should be converted to CMYK. Photos, logos and graphics submitted for ads should be scanned at 300 dpi or larger. E-mail ads to: advertising1@collegian.com or advertising2@collegian.com

Policies & Payments Advertising Acceptance All advertising is subject to the approval of the Collegian acceptance committee. The committee reserves the right to refuse any advertising that does not conform to the published advertising policy, which is available from the Collegian Advertising Department. The Collegian reserves the right to print “Paid Advertisement” on any ad which closely resembles editorial material. The Collegian also reserves the right to edit copy that promotes irresponsible use of alcohol, as outlined in the published advertising policy. The Collegian reserves the right to refuse or edit advertising that is felt to be in poor taste or judgment or discriminates on the basis of race, creed, color, handicap, age or sex. Annual contracts are available for display advertising. Under the terms of the contract, a reduced column inch rate will be guaranteed for a specified volume of advertising placed in the Collegian. If the contract level is not met, additional charges will be assessed on advertising placed under this agreement for the difference between the contract rate and the contract level fulfilled.

The Kent State University Office of Student Media offers complete coverage to reach the campus market.

RATE CARD/MEDIA KIT When a market consultant goes to meet with a local business owner, they are never given a rate card. A rate card is packed full of information that can be very overwhelming at one time. This year, our goal was to make an impact. We decided to get the potential client’ss attention first, by dropping off a special package potential client attention first, by dropping off a special package for them that couldn’t help but get their attention…

Step 1: Deliver a “Welcome BACK to College Life” Cooler to Client LSU Student Media sales decided that for the summer and early fall, we needed to JOLT potential clients in order for them to pay attention to the dollars behind to JOLT potential clients in order for them to pay attention to the dollars behind student spending and LSU spending in general. We wanted to make a powerful statement about the spending power of our readers, instead of being dismissed as a paper that delivers moochers and ramen noodle eaters. We wanted to provide some “nostalgia” with the truth behind the spending capacity that they might accidentally dismiss!

STEP 2: Customer Needs Analysis After the impactful cooler was delivered to the After the impactful cooler was delivered to the potential client, the next step was to set a meeting with the client. The objective? Complete a Customer Needs Analysis to assess the client’s needs and identify a key issue that our media solutions can alleviate for them.

STEP 3: Presentation & Printed Rate Card for reference After the cooler had been delivered, a needs analysis After the cooler had been delivered a needs analysis completed, then the market consultant could return to the business owner to make a customized proposal, and leave behind the printed rate card as a source of information for the client. The rate card is best utilized as a reference manual, not a selling tool or shopping list. Merely a place to see what other options a client might be interested in at a later date or to help guide them through further at a later date, or to help guide them through further customization of their proposal.
