Welcome Back Issue — Thursday, September 2 Ad Size Information
Common Sizes
Ad sizes are expressed as the number of columns wide by the number of inches tall (i.e. a “2 x 4” ad is 2 columns wide by 4 inches tall). Multiplying columns by inches gives the total number of column inches (i.e. 2 x 4 = 8 column inches). Multiplying column inches by the ad rate gives the cost of an ad.
Although many ad sizes are available, some of the most common sizes are:
1” tall
Sample Column Inch 1 column wide (1.729”)
Any size ad can be created according to these rules: • Widths are in full columns (no halves or fractions). • Heights are in 1 ⁄2” increments, 1” minimum. • Minimum size: 2 column inches (1 x 2 or 2 x 1).

Basketball Preview — Friday, November 12 Ad Size Information
Common Sizes
Ad sizes are expressed as the number of columns wide by the number of inches tall (i.e. a “2 x 4” ad is 2 columns wide by 4 inches tall). Multiplying columns by inches gives the total number of column inches (i.e. 2 x 4 = 8 column inches). Multiplying column inches by the ad rate gives the cost of an ad.
Although many ad sizes are available, some of the most common sizes are:
1” tall

Spring Special Issues As the summer approaches, students prepare for final exams and the end of another school year. Graduation marks the end of college for some and the beginning of summer sessions for others. The Daily Pennsylvanian will cover all of these events and more with the special issues that are highlighted below. You will also find separate flyers containing detailed information about the three final issues of the spring semester and The Summer Pennsylvanian. The deadline for these issues is rapidly approaching. Please contact your advertising representative or call our Advertising Office at 215-898-6581 to make your advertising plans.
Final Exams Issue I ssue Date: Thursday, April 29 Deadline: Monday, April 26 Distributed after spring term classes end, at the start of final exams. Distributed in and around dorms and libraries as students are looking to take a break from the rigors of studying for finals. Stays on the racks longer than the regular Daily Pennsylvanian. This is the last chance to reach students and faculty before the semester ends.
New Student Issue Issue Date: Saturday, June 5 Deadline: Friday, May 7 This special issue is mailed directly to the homes of incoming freshmen. It is an introduction to life at Penn that students will use to establish buying habits — habits that will last their entire Penn career. This is your first shot to reach your new customers.
Graduation Issue Issue Date: Friday, May 14 Deadline: Friday, May 7 This broadsheet issue covers the events of Graduation weekend and includes a special “Graduation Goodbyes” section with congratulatory messages from parents and friends. Distributed in the rackboxes on Friday and handed out on Alumni Day and Commencement Day.
The Summer Pennsylvanian I ssue Dates: Thursdays Deadlines: Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m. Published 10 times during Penn’s two summer sessions and available to over 10,000 students and faculty who remain on campus over the summer. The first issue is Thursday, May 27, marking the beginning of summer sessions.

March 12, 2010 Dear Senior Parent, Graduation is an exciting time for you and your child — it’s a time of recognition and pride. Why not join hundreds of other Penn parents by congratulating your child in The Daily Pennsylvanian? The Daily Pennsylvanian, Penn’s 126-year old award-winning student-run newspaper, will publish an entire issue dedicated to graduation — including a special “Graduation Goodbye” pull-out supplement just for seniors, filled with messages and wishes from parents and friends. This special graduation issue will be distributed around campus throughout graduation weekend and during commencement ceremonies on May 17th. We’re inviting you to take part in this unique issue by sending a personal message to your graduate alongside your child’s baby picture! (A sample is shown on the enclosed flyer.) You can also visit www.theDP.com/gradgoodbyes for examples from last year’s issue. This is a chance for seniors to look back and see how far they have come. The issue also serves as a special memento of your child’s time here at Penn. Each personal greeting costs $40. However, to be part of this special issue, you have to act quickly. We’re holding a space for each senior right now, but we must receive your submission by April 23rd in order to lock in your child’s spot. The application, picture and payment may be submitted online by going to theDPcom/gradgoodbyes. Instructions for online submission are quick and easy and can be found on the website. The picture, text and check can also be submitted by mail. Just fill out the information on the enclosed flyer, and mail it along with your child’s baby photo. The Daily Pennsylvanian will take care of the rest. If you would like your child’s photo to be returned to you, please be sure to place it in a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Whether by mail or via the Internet, all submissions must be received by April 23rd. A prompt response will ensure that your graduate is included in this special section. Congratulations and best wishes from all of us at The Daily Pennsylvanian! We are sure you are very proud of your Ivy League scholar. Sincerely,
Donna Gamble Office Manager

June 23, 2010 Dear Penn Parent, Congratulations on your child’s admission to the University of Pennsylvania’s Class of 2014! Starting this fall, Penn will be the center of your son’s or daughter’s life, and you can join the many parents who share their child’s college experience by subscribing to The Weekly Pennsylvanian. The editors and staff of The Daily Pennsylvanian, Penn’s award-winning, 126year-old, student-run newspaper, produce this weekly publication specifically for Penn parents and alumni. By subscribing to The Weekly Pennsylvanian, you’ll get the pulse of Penn — the “best of” each week’s issues of the “DP” in one convenient, advertisement-free, 8-page weekly newspaper. Throughout the past year, we provided extensive coverage of the topics important to the Penn family, including: -
the University’s financial status in the current economy, the increase in reported assaults and rapes in the campus area, construction transforming the face of campus, ongoing changes in Penn’s administration, men’s and women’s athletics, including the football and volleyball teams’ journeys to Ivy League titles and the women’s lacrosse team’s fourth consecutive NCAA appearance, and recent campus visits by Stephen Forbes, Martha Stewart, Joyce Carol Oates, and many others.
A Weekly Pennsylvanian subscription is just $49 for the full school year, every week that classes are in session from September through next April. We also offer subscribers a money-saving subscription discount: purchase a two-year subscription for just $84. You’ll save money up-front — and avoid any potential price increase from higher postage rates next year. Starting your subscription couldn’t be easier — order securely online at http://theDP.com/subscriptions, call 215-898-6581, or complete the enclosed form and use the provided postage-paid reply envelope. Subscription orders received by August 20th will start with the first fall issue in mid-September, so don’t delay! Sincerely,
Donna Gambale Office Manager NOTE: If you’re already a subscriber, we apologize for sending you this letter. We received a list of freshman parents from Penn and tried to eliminate all those who are existing subscribers, but due to name and address variations, a few duplicates undoubtedly slipped through.
