Hello CNH Circle K-er! I’m Natalie Mann and I’m so grateful to serve Cal-Nev-Ha Circle K as the 2016-2017 District Member Recognition Chair. I aim to seek potential in individuals and situations that are often overlooked. This past term, I was able to bring this mentality and love to the best home club with CSU Long Beach Circle K. Being able to work alongside an amazing board to help grow our Circle K family was the most hectic and worthwhile journey. I can honestly say that awards marked the most stressful point of the year because it made me question if everything we did was enough. I did all that I could with our club award applications and compiled everything we had with our Secretary, Richelle. I remember rushing home to print papers and pay for overnight shipping at my local UPS. Afterward, I sat in my car for an hour feeling like I failed our club and that we would not win anything because I felt so rushed and stressed. While reflecting in my car, I had the hugest epiphany. I realized that the biggest and best award that the club and I could ever get was the amazing term and family we built for the 2015-2016 year. We broke club records, exceeded our own goals and expectations, and created a family atmosphere full of genuine love, care, and dedication for one another and the organization. This epiphany is the very award that I hope you receive when you endure this awards season. I hope that you go into awards feeling that you did all that you possibly could, and that no matter the outcome at District Convention 2017, the biggest award you could have ever received is being able to conquer the Circle K year with a wonderful home club. Awards provide you with the opportunity to showcase all that you were able to accomplish. It allows you to reflect on the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and it reminds you of how much you were able to grow and develop over the course of the year. Although awards will give you sleepless nights and stress pimples, they serve as a personal reflection of the growth of your club. Ultimately, we hope that these applications are things you are able to look back on and be proud of for terms to come. I’m so excited to be a part of recognizing the lovely members and clubs of CNH for their dedication to this organization alongside the best committee I could ever ask for. Whether it is through awards, the Membership Recognition Program, or spotlights like Member Recognition Mondays, the little things can make a big difference. I hope you know that the Member Recognition Committee and I truly value your hard work and passion for this organization. We are always here to help whenever you need us. We love you and wish you the best of luck this awards season! Love, Natalie
Hello Awards Party People! I am Manuel Santiago! I am currently a 2nd year attending Orange Coast College as a History major! I am currently serving as the Administrative Executive Assistant of the Member Recognition Committee! :) I love recognition because it helps to keep people feeling proud and acknowledged for the hard work they do! Plus, rewarding people for their hard work should always be a common occurrence! From a simple thank you to a plaque for being member of the year, feeling acknowledged feels good! I’m SO SO SO excited for the DCON Manual, as well as the awards, because receiving an award at District Convention can get very emotional! Staying up late to finish scrapbooks, finding all those grammatical mess-ups, and definitely going through all that with your board is what makes awards somewhat unique! If you see me at an event, don’t be scared to ask me a question or say hi! Good luck to everybody!
Hey CNH! I’m Paula Le and I had the unique experience of creating graphics and manuals as your Creative Assistant on the Member Recognition committee! I am in my fourth and final year at California State University, Long Beach. In my club, I am also mother to 19 children with my girl Richelle! Although my position posed many challenging tasks -- including this manual you’re looking at right now -- it always contributed to my skills and learning. I wanted to help facilitate education based on recognition, and I have the privilege of doing so through visuals. Awards season is always daunting, but if you remember what inspires you, what pushes you to do your best in the club, your efforts will shine through! I remember submitting awards when I was Secretary for my club, and it’s definitely something you don’t want to do last minute! My club didn’t receive the awards we wanted, but seeing how everyone bonded through that pain, seeing how our club was already proud of us despite the outcome made everything better. The experience is definitely special for each person, so don’t miss out on this opportunity. I wish you well on applying for awards, because it is ... rewarding hehe. I’ll be here to help if you need it!
Hi there! My name is Esther Wang and I have the amazing pleasure of serving as the Membership Recognition Program/Master Records Sheet Coordinator for the District Member Recognition Committee. I am a 4th year at UC San Diego majoring in Applied Mathematics and an aspiring actuary. I love recognition because it allows members from all over the district to bond together and celebrate each other’s achievements, whether it’s through MR Mondays, Awards, or MRP. I’m extremely excited to recognize all of the hard work you’ve put into your club, whether it’s through shout-outs or awards. Although filling out awards may seem tedious, know that I, along with the rest of the MR Committee, will always be here to help you!
Hi everyone! My name is Thuy (pronounced as twee) Tran and I am the Northern Representative on the Member Recognition (MR) Committee! I currently attend Sacramento State and I am also a family head at my home club (go squirrels!). I partake in an expensive hobby called cosplaying where I make costumes based off characters in movies/animangas/shows and attend conventions where a lot of people who have the same hobby gather! Right now, I am having so much fun interacting with members of Capital, Golden Gate, and Sunset as their liaison and being able to work with the awesome people of the MR committee! Being able to recognize all of your service and efforts makes the work we do feel effortless. We are working hard right now to get those awards out to you so please be patient with us and we are excited to see what you all will do this upcoming term!
Hello friends! My name is Terrence Diaz and I’m a senior majoring in Computer Science with a concentration in Economics at Harvey Mudd College. As the Central MR Representative, I love getting to know the diverse and hardworking group of individuals in Desert Oasis, Central Coast, and of course my Foothill family! As a member of this committee, I hope to not only serve as the voice for the three divisions I’m assigned, but also those who feel like there is no one representing them. I hope my unique experience from a small, private school will provide both a holistic perspective towards MR as well as encouragement and support for clubs who feel like they’re too tiny to be noticed! Although you are currently reading the District Awards Manual, remember that member recognition is a continuous rather than a discrete process, and please don’t hesitate to contact me for all your woes, worries, triumphs, etc.!
Hello! My name is Jack Wang and I am currently a third year at UC San Diego majoring in Management Science and minoring in Business, transferring from Orange Coast College! I am currently serving as your Southern Representative for Magic Kingdom, Metro, and Paradise Divisions! As your Southern Representative, I want to be a resource to all of you who need help with the awards process as it can be difficult at times. I believe awards provide the sense of accomplishment and unity within a club and I want to see all of you have the best awards nights of your Circle K career! Even though you will be staying up all night finishing up those awards, the MR Committee will always be here for you whether it may be awards troubleshooting or if you just want to talk about life! To those applying for awards this year, good luck! I cannot wait to see all of you at district events and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! See you later! (:
WHY SHOULD YOU APPLY? ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Awards give our district the opportunity to appreciate, recognize, and spotlight its outstanding individuals, clubs, and divisions for the exceptional work they do every year. It is very important for all clubs - regardless of their size or circumstances - to feel that they are supported and acknowledged by their division and district. Our district would be nothing without the dedication of our members, clubs, and divisions. It is an honor that is meaningful for recipients and the Cal-Nev-Ha District.
DISTRICT UNITY
All throughout the announcement of awards, everyone cheers and congratulates other individuals and clubs for their achievements. It shows how supportive and encouraging clubs are of one another. Circle K-ers acknowledge how hard each individual, club, and division worked to earn the awards they receive. Thus, awards provide the district with a sense of pride and unity for these accomplishments.
REFLECT
District awards are a great way to reflect on the progress of your club. Awards can be a good indicator of the areas in which your club excels as well as the areas where individuals and clubs can improve. Awards can inspire clubs and individuals to strive to do all that they can do and be all that they can be in Circle K. Ultimately, awards serve as a reflection of all that the club embodies and accomplishes for the term.
LEGACY
Winning awards is a reminder to your club and its members of the accomplishments, values, and pride your club carries in Circle K. Clubs may place awarded patches on their banners as a physical reminder of their successes. Awards contribute to the legacy of your term. Whether it be being the club with the most service hours per member or being the club with the AMAZING scrapbook at District Convention, the achievements of your club can inspire members to carry on this legacy for years to come.
TAKE IT FROM THE MEMBERS JACK WANG, UC SAN DIEGO Have it be a motivating factor! It shows how much hard work and dedication you put in the entire year. MANUEL SANTIAGO, ORANGE COAST COLLEGE It recognizes your club for all the amazing things you’ve accomplished. Receiving awards provides a legacy for your term. RICHARD TZUL, LOS ANGELES CITY COLLEGE It creates a sense of community. When the district recognizes someone, that member becomes someone we can rally around and see as an inspiration to be a better CKI member.
TERRENCE DIAZ, HARVEY MUDD COLLEGE It makes people confident about their abilities! And being confident about your abilities will allow you to strive for more ambitious things! PAULA LE, CSU LONG BEACH When you’re applying, you’re not only applying for yourself or the club; you’re applying for all the people around you -your friends, advisors, people who secretly look up to you. They want to see you receive that award because they know you deserve it, and they want to share that moment of happiness with you!
