TO ANASTASIA SLEPUKHOVA INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE ALABAMA, CNH KIWIN’S, NEW YORK, ROCKY MOUNTAINS

This past month our District Board was devastated to see our International Trustee leave KIWIN’S. Tears were shed as you left our group chats and our Facebook page. But you will never be forgotten. We will always remember the dedication, loyalty, and care that you showed to our District and we were incredibly lucky to have such an understanding soul on our side. To have someone as kind and hardworking as you was truly a blessing. We want to thank you Anastasia for the incredible amount of work and dedication that you have shown KIWIN’S this past term. We could not have wished for a better trustee and advocate on International Board. It is due to your hard work that KIWIN’S stands here today. With your powerful voice, we were able to stand tall and united at ICON as we combatted the amendments and earning the International President’s Board Member of the Year does not do justice to the motivation, determination, and loyalty that you have showed us. Your passion, dedication and character serves as an inspirational to all of KIWIN’S. Thank you for showing KIWIN’S what it means to be a true model of leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. You have earned our endless respect and we truly hope that you have the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. Forever In Service and Spirit, Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN’S 2016-2017 District Board

DIANGELO SORIANO DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY CHAIR CAL-NEV-HA KIWIN’S

Hola CNH KIWIN'S, I'm DiAngelo Soriano, your District Technology Chair for the 2016 to 2017 term. I hail from the small school of Hercules up in Northern California. In my town, there's not exactly too many things to do, so I spend a lot of time playing tennis, bowling, cycling, and most of all, sitting behind a lens or a computer creating media. I'm normally up into the late hours of the night on my computer, and up early the next day to go out. Although I don't get too much sleep, my caffeine dependency fuels through the night. When it is time to settle down, however, I enjoy long walks on the beach, geocaching, and watching "The Notebook. I started my KIWIN'S journey during sophomore year, and after getting more involved in the club, I realized how media-centered our organization really is. This year especially, I have high hopes for the district in terms of social media and connectivity, content production, and advertising using technology. With the expansion of members from last year's District Technology Committee, I know that we'll be able to put out higher quality graphics, videos, and other media. I know that with the rising popularity of high quality phone cameras and DSLRs, I notice the amount of photographers at events, the amount of videos, and the quality of graphics all being raised to a level better than ever before. I highly encourage any and all Tech. Chairs, Historians, Publicists, etc. to ask myself or my partner in crime, Nhung, any questions about technology. We're always super happy to help out! Also, all photographers out there keep an eye out for Human's of KIWIN'S signups! We're revamping HOK and expect great things out of the district! Sinceramente, DiAngelo Soriano District Technology Chair

TORRANCE

Howdy-Ho, KIWINNERS! In May, Torrance High KIWIN’S, Diamond Division, inducted the 2016-2017 Officers, including me. I had had a great time serving the club by then, and I wanted to improve my craft. As such, I was re-elected as club treasurer. Being re-elected to the same position means I have experience; furthermore, I plan avoid the mistakes I made this past school year. My first step was balancing the budget - a task I fell just short of, beforehand. Consequently, I planned a fundraiser before school ended; in fact, it was the second-to-last week of school. In planning the fundraiser the month before, I decided to rely on a fundraising idea I heard at DCON just this year: a Krispy Kreme fundraiser. I set an easy goal of $100, to get the ball rolling. Then, after just one week of planning, calling, and running all over the place, the entire board and I anxiously awaited judgment day: the sixteenth of June. Many of the board members shining bright in the attached picture helped reduce costs by donating various concessions to the point at which the only expenses necessary were hard work, teamwork, and Spirit! (and the donuts). The donuts cost $6/dozen, so we sold them for $1/donut with a bonus sale of $10/dozen, as proposed by myself and the Vice President. Immediately the club negotiated with the school’s ASB to sell on campus after school, and then we propagated the news of our fundraiser to all the students, expecting a good turnout but not too great.

DIAMOND

Little did I know, I was fortunately wrong. My biggest fear throughout the process was that I had underestimated the demand for Krispy Kreme and consequently over-ordered, creating excess supply meaning we would not sell all of the donuts and thus lose money. By God’s good grace, I actually underestimated the voraciousness of my peers. Having ordered 300 donuts to last two days, we were pleasantly surprised that we sold out in just 10 minutes. I had not expected in my wildest dreams to have the business of so many kids. The only downside was that there weren’t any left over for the board members and myself. All in all, I enjoyed the success of this fundraiser and the KIWIN’S Spirit I felt while working with my fellow KIWIN’S. There are a bad and a good to take from this particular experience. First, I will have to purchase more donuts for our next Krispy Kreme fundraiser (a lot of a lot more). Second, we, the fresh board of the 2016-2017 term, are ready to work as a team and as a family; KIWIN’S is veritably the Kreme of the Crop, the best Torrance High School has to offer.

GLEN A. WILSON

GOLDSTONE

Towards the end of the month, Glen A. Wilson KIWIN'S served the community by going to Schabarum Regional Park, and refurbishing a couple of picnic tables. The members met at the venue at a fairly early time, and immediately started scraping rubbish off the table, such as bird feces, insects, and leaves, and covered the floor surrounding the table so that paint did not drip onto it. Painting the tables was a little complicated because they were only provided with one roller, and brushes that left unsatisfying finishes; however, the event was a success because they were able to see the impact they had on the community based on their small actions. Although we had to disturb our summer vacation sleeping schedules and work in the scalding California heat, it was all worth it because the tables looked nice and new again!
