Miami Beach mayoral candidate’s loaded gun found in public park

A loaded semi-automatic handgun, belonging to Michael Grieco, a Miami Beach mayoral candidate who has positioned himself as an advocate for public safety was discovered on a city park bench in Miami Beach

Reports are that the firearm was handed over to the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) by a woman on the morning of August

13 The glock was loaded, containing six 9mm rounds in its magazine and one ready in the chamber

Police were able to determine the ownership of the firearm after inspecting its accompanying items

According to reports, the bag in which it was found held several identification cards, Grieco’s wallet, and approximately $60 in cash

Reports are that MBPD returned the gun to Grieco and has refused to publicly identify him as the owner, citing a public records exemption that applies to former prosecutors like Grieco Grieco shared with NBC6 that he presumed his bag had been taken, though he had not witnessed the act

He said that he alerted park authorities about the potential theft “My bag was stolen and within less than an hour found safely at the police department,” he said

“In that hour period, I reported it to the command staff assigned to the park where it was stolen and was en route to the police station to file an official report when I received a call that the bag and its contents were mostly accounted for,” he added

Miami Beach Police noted in its report that Grieco requested the incident not be investigated

According to NBC6, Grieco’s rationale behind his decision not to escalate the matter was the desire to avoid burdening both the police force and himself with the procedural intricacies of pressing charges

He noted a discrepancy in the recovered

amount of money, but believed that the thieves might have overlooked the firearm and some cash in a side compartment of the bag

This incident surfaced weeks after Grieco’s vocal criticism of Florida’s new concealed weapons law

In a recent campaign video, Grieco, a selfproclaimed gun owner, former law enforcement officer, and permit holder, conveyed his concerns about the state’s safety

He emphasized the potential risks posed by an increased number of firearms in public spaces, especially for children, the general population, and first responders

From Trauma to Tech Parkland school shooting survivor Kai Koerber creates app to support mental health

An NBC6 article spotlights Kai Koerber, a survivor of the 2018 Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and the remarkable strides he has been making since then While numerous classmates confronted the event’s aftermath through avenues like gun control activism, political endeavors, or personal healing and studies, Koerber’s technological fervor led him down an unconventional route

Instead of traditional advocacy, Koerber, 23, introduced “Joy,” a smartphone application built around artificial intelligence

The app ’ s main feature is to recommend short mindfulness practices to its users, basing suggestions on their current emotional state This unique feature identifies emotions from voice tones, irrespective of language or choice of words

Post the Parkland tragedy, while many sought legislative solutions, the oftenunderemphasized aspect was mental health recovery Koerber himself faced the harrowing effects of post-traumatic stress disorder, a reality for many survivors

Koerber’s academic journey led him to UC Berkeley, where he initiated a research team

Their mission was to develop groundbreaking AI solutions catering to real-time emotional needs, breaking the traditional confines of mindfulness practices

The voice-emotion recognition feature of Joy is a noteworthy novelty, offering practices that can be adopted quickly in various settings

Users simply speak into the app, and based on the detected mood, the app offers tailored activities Although the AI might occasionally misinterpret a user ’ s mood, manual mood selection is available to rectify such situations

From a short exercise to writing letters to e ’ s future self, the app offers diverse activities r various emotional states

Priced at an $8 monthly fee with an annual discount, Joy continues to refine its AI pabilities with increased usage

Dacher Keltner, a UC Berkeley professor, aises Koerber for his innovative use of hnology in addressing mental and physical alth crises

He describes Koerber as a leader of the next neration who is thinking intentionally and h a focus on how to use technology to meet e mental, physical, and climate crises

Colin Walsh, a professor of biomedical ormatics at Vanderbilt University and an

expert on AI’s use in suicide prevention, highlighted that the market is saturated with wellness apps claiming to aid mental health

Walsh pointed out potential challenges: if a user feels the app ’ s interpretation does not align with their actual emotional state, a feedback mechanism should be in place for corrections

On the topic of stakes, platforms like Facebook have been criticized for their AIpowered suicide prevention tools, which in grave instances, notify law enforcement about potentially suicidal users

However, Walsh commented that if AIdriven interventions are benign, such as recommending users to spend time outdoors, the risks are minimal

He also noted a surging demand, or at least the perception thereof, for wellness and mental health apps in recent times Despite the current system’s commendable efforts, gaps remain

Consequently, he believes many see technology as a means to bridge these gaps

The long-term effects of trauma, especially from events like mass shootings, are profound

Survivors often grapple with the aftermath for years, if not a lifetime Koerber emphasizes that true recovery is a prolonged journey, unlike the rapid pace of the tech world

Making a positive impact with technology

Koerbe’s approach to technology starkly contrasts with the fast-paced ethos of earlier tech giants

Instead of rapid development, Koerber’s focus remains on creating meaningful products that prioritize social well-being

His journey from a traumatic event to the creation of Joy encapsulates the potential of technology to support and enhance mental health recovery

11-year-old girl posthumously honored in T&T for saving brother from dog attack

The 47th republic anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago took a solemn and poignant turn on Sunday as the nation commemorated the bravery of an 11-yearold girl who died while protecting her younger brother from a vicious dog attack

Rachel Bhagwandeen was posthumously awarded the esteemed Hummingbird Medal, Bronze category, an accolade that speaks to her heroic act of gallantry Reports are that Rachel and her younger brother, Jaylon, were watching a television show at a relative’s house when the dog made its way into the room

Recognizing the imminent danger, Rachel swiftly pushed Jaylon towards the exit, urging him to escape Heeding her instructions, Jaylon ran away, seeking the aid of their mother, Seema

Bhagwandeen, and other family members nearby

Reports are that Rachel had been mauled by the dog inside the bedroom

In the wake of this heart-wrenching event, Seema Bhagwandeen celebrated her daughter’s valor, acknowledging Rachel as a true hero who ensured her brother’s safety

The Hummingbird Medal is a tribute to individuals who have demonstrated loyal and devoted service, gallantry, or other compassionate deeds for the benefit of Trinidad and Tobago

Cuba offers to help with Jamaica’s teacher shortage

Cuba has offered to supply teachers to Jamaica amid mass teacher resignations affecting the nation’s schools

Cuba’s Ambassador to Jamaica, Fermin Quinones Sanchez, has stated that Cuba is prepared to provide assistance if the Jamaican government seeks support in this regard

“There is no limitation from Cuba’s side about any request that would be made by the Jamaican Government and the Ministry of Education to continue supporting the education sector,” the diplomat said

There are over 100 Cuban teachers in the Jamaica school system most of whom teach Spanish, but the diplomat said his country can offer teachers in the sciences as well as in dealing with children with special needs

“We mentioned some time ago to the Jamaican government of the possibility to expand the cooperation of the bilateral agreement to tackle some special needs of children with certain disabilities that need some kind of support,” the ambassador said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer

Newspaper

He added that Cuba has been developing special needs skills over many, many years, and now we have teachers who are well prepared to work with children with special needs

“Cuba is ready to participate in such a program if it is the request, of course, by the Jamaican government,” Ambassador Sanchez said

Teacher brain drain

Jamaica has been facing challenges with teacher shortages in certain subject areas and regions in recent years

These shortages were particularly notable in subjects like mathematics and the sciences, as well as in rural and underserved areas of the country Factors contributing to these shortages included low teacher salaries, limited access to professional development opportunities, and migration of qualified teachers to other countries seeking better pay and working conditions

Education Minister Fayval Williams was quoted in a ministry statement last week, as saying that sudden resignation of scores of teachers and the employment of new teachers at short notice, the ministry had to “implement new mechanisms to ensure that new teachers are paid in the month of September

“Under normal circumstances, for a teacher to be paid in a particular month, the employment documents must be submitted by the last working day of the previous month For example, to be paid in September, all relevant employment documents must be submitted to the ministry by the last working day in the month of August

“However, given that many of the new teachers were employed this month [September], the ministry extended the deadline for submission to September 12 and deployed the accounting staff to work overtime and on weekends to process the submissions

The statement from the education ministry said 1,155 teachers had joined the sector in time for the new school year

Jamaica declares dengue outbreak with hundreds of conrmed cases

Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and Wellness

on Saturday declared an outbreak of dengue fever on the island, with over 500 suspected and confirmed cases

The ministry said the outbreak comes as its National Surveillance Unit advised that the island has surpassed the dengue epidemic threshold for July and August and is on a trajectory to do the same for September

“This means, the country has seen an increase in the number of cases compared to what is normally seen during these months of the year,” the ministry stated

As of Friday, September 23, the country had recorded 565 suspected, presumed and confirmed cases of dengue, the ministry said Of that number, 78 cases had been confirmed, with the majority of the cases in Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine and St Thomas, according to the release

There are no dengue-related deaths classified at this time, but six deaths are being investigated, the ministry said

This is the first outbreak on the island since

2019 The ministry said the dominant strain has been Dengue Type Two, which is one of the deadliest and has not been predominant in Jamaica since 2010 The strain, in addition to fever, can cause additional symptoms and can be fatal

tion, about 4 billion people, live in areas with a risk of infection, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention

Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, fatigue, nausea, and rash In a small number of cases, the potentially deadly dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) may develop, resulting in internal bleeding, enlargement of the liver, and high fever

About one in four people infected with the infection will get sick There is also no specific medicine to treat the infection Health providers will administer medication to treat symptoms

travelers infected elsewhere

Because the types of mosquitoes that spread the infection are common throughout many areas of the United States, local spread is possible and has been reported in Florida, Hawaii, Texas, and Arizona

However, most outbreaks in the continental United States have been relatively small and limited

Jamaican Member of Parliament Phillip Paulwell says authorities are no closer to finding his infant daughter and her mother, two weeks after they were reported missing Paulwell gave the update in the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon

The MP for Kingston East and Port Royal thanked his colleagues and “all of Jamaica” who have reached out to him, with words of encouragement and support

“Despite the fact that we are nowhere closer today than we were two weeks ago at finding my daughter and her mother, I do feel the prayers, and it’s prayers from hundreds and hundreds of Jamaicans that have reached out,” Paulwell said

Minister of Health

Dr Christopher Tufton announced that vector control workers will be commencing widescale fogging — a conventional technique used to combat Aedes mosquitoes and prevent the infection

Dengue viruses are spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito Almost half of the world’s popula-

But in the United States, a vaccine is approved for use in children aged 9 to 16 years with laboratory-confirmed previous dengue virus infection and living in areas where the infection is common Endemic areas include some U S territories and freely associated states

Dengue outbreaks occasionally occur in the continental United States Most cases reported in the 49 continental US states occur in

Police no closer to nding Jamaican MP’s missing daughter

Paulwell said that while it is often during hardships that people have their faith weakened, the ordeal has only made him stronger “My faith is stronger today than it has been,” he said

He closed by thanking the police for their work thus far in the case and urged Jamaicans to continue praying for his daughter and her mother to be found safe

On Sept 9, 10-month-old Sarayah Paulwell and her mother, 27-year-old Toshyna Patterson, were allegedly abducted from their home on Gilmour Drive in St Andrew

Just last week, a person of interest in the case was reportedly intercepted at one of the island’s international airports But no arrests

Cayman reverses blood donation ban linked to “mad cow” disease

The Cayman Islands government has swiftly overturned a former policy that barred individuals who had previously visited or resided in nations impacted by Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), widely recognized as “mad cow disease,” from donating blood

were made

In a statement on social media, Paulwell said the current ordeal has been “ very horrific ”

“I have dealt with many things in my life, but the disappearance of my daughter and her mother is by far the most difficult thing I have ever had to navigate,” said the former Cabinet minister

“I am praying God keeps them safe and leads us to find them before any harm comes their way Again, if you know anything, anything at all please share it ”

Following the announcement by Health Minister Sabrina Turner in Parliament, individuals who had a residence in Britain from 1980 to 2001, as well as those who underwent a blood transfusion in the UK after 1980, are now eligible to donate blood

The recent risk evaluation combined with the prevailing protocols for blood donors prompted numerous nations to reevaluate and adjust similar guidelines

According to reports, Chief Medical Officer Dr Nick Gent emphasized that the previous restrictions on blood donations were crucial at the time, serving as an essential measure to protect public health

The Jamaican Diaspora is still being undercounted

Recently bold headlines in Jamaican

newspapers stated according to the 2020 US Census report, 1 2 million people registered as Jamaicans At a glance this may sound, and it does, to be a significant population, numerically But, on closer analysis this reported data isn't correct The number of Jamaicans, first, second and third generations far exceeds the 1 2 million reported in the Census report Jamaicans, and other Caribbean nationals, have been migrating in various waves to the US since the 17th century The migratory trend from Jamaica to the US intensified significantly in the 20th century, as economic, political and security challenges increased on the island

Initially settling in the New York Tri State region, ( New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) the population has spread exponentially over recent years to other states , notably Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington DC Most of those Jamaicans who came in earlier years integrated themselves in the US and have spawned second and third generations who although born in the US, often describe themselves as Jamaicans

For years several Caribbean organizations have thrived to have the US Census Bureau's census questionnaire amended to include a separate and distinct category designated as 'Caribbean' This would be similar to Question 8 of the questionnaire which asks: Is Person 1 of Hispanic, Latino or Spanish Origin? This question is further broken down to allow respondents to state if they originate from Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, or from other countries

The amendment to a specific Caribbean question would ask If the respondent is of Caribbean origin, then broken down into subsections asking if the origin was Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, etc

Up to the 2020 Census, efforts to realize the

sought after change wasn't realized The US Census Bureau did, however, amend question 9 of the questionnaire which asks: What Is Person 1's Race? The subsections to this question asked whether the respondent was White, Black or African American, etc In the category Black or African American, respondents were allowed to write in if they were Jamaican, Haitian, Nigerian, etc While this could be considered a worthwhile amendment allowing clearer identification of an immigrant country of origin, focus groups conducted after the 2020 Census indicated significant numbers of Caribbean nationals, including Jamaicans, who completed the questionnaire, responded to question 9 as 'Other', not responding to the Black or African American sub section

Another reason why the data from the 2020 Census is incorrect, and under counts the Jamaican American population is that it was conducted during the heights of the COVID-19 outbreak Steps taken to control the disease spreading challenged the traditional door-todoor method of conducting the census The alternative was to mail the questionnaire to residents But the post-census focus groups indicated only 8 out of 20 Caribbean Americans or 40 percent responded to the questionnaire Some people who had changed residential address never received the questionnaire, and many others simply refused to respond, or ignored the questionnaire

Several Caribbean organizations across the US, using their own resources, made real efforts to get Caribbean Americans to respond to the questionnaire, but despite their efforts a significant number of Jamaican and other Caribbean Americans didn't participate in the 2020 Census

Several professionals and organizations who have conducted demographic surveys of Caribbean Americans, including Jamaican Americans born in Jamaica and the US, have reported the Caribbean American community

to be estimated at 5 million with Jamaican Americans estimated at 3 5 million. Jamaicans in the New York Tri State region are estimated as some 2 million, significantly more than the 314,000 reported in the 2020 US Census Also, Jamaicans in Florida are estimated at 700,000 much more than the 311,000 reported by the census report It is a great disadvantage to the potential of the Jamaican American and remaining Caribbean American community to be under counted in the US Census Many people, and a variety of agents rely heavily on the data reported in the census This data is used for various purposes, including securing significant benefits The community risks missing out on some of these benefits, and having its impact as an important economic, business and voting group reduced if it's perennially undercounted

Tributes must be paid to those individuals and organizations who strived for years for an independent Caribbean identification on the US Census questionnaire; and those who strived for the wider Caribbean community to participate when the census is conducted But there's much more work to be done, not by these individuals ad organizations A much more organized effort, including a coalition of the Caribbean diplomatic corps, Caribbean American elected officials, business community, and the wider Caribbean American diaspora, supported by other ethnic groups, is required to lobby the US government to make appropriate amendments to the US Census process to assure the general Caribbean community, and each sub-Caribbean American community, including the Jamaican American community, is correctly represented and counted in the US Census

Dominican Republic immigration agent arrested for alleged airport rape

An immigration agent in the Dominican Republic has been taken into custody following accusations of sexually assaulting a Haitian woman in one of the airport’s detention cells.

The alleged incident occurred early on Saturday at a detention cell at Las Américas International Airport in the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo

According to reports, the incident also occurred in the presence of the woman ’ s 4-yearold son

Prosecutor Milciades Guzmán shared that the agent, whose identity remains undisclosed, was arrested over the past weekend

Kenya’s proposal to the United Nations outlines a tri-fold approach to Haitian security:

• Provide operational backing to the local police to fight against criminal gangs

• Assure the static safety of pivotal

installations and routes

• Reinforce the Haitian police force for enduring stability

Several Caribbean nations, including

Nations Security Council in the form of a resolution

In a plea during the recent United Nations General Assembly, the Haitian Prime Minister, Dr Ariel Henry, stressed the need for a “sustained and tangible” solution to Haiti’s predicament

Henry, leading the interim administration post the tragic assassination of President Jovennel Moise in 2021, has consistently urged the global community to deploy a multinational peacekeeping force in Haiti

While the United States has shown financial commitment by pledging a substantial US$100 million to the multinati l i iti ti it h d id d i t

The judicial process is currently underway, as Guzmán has sought a court mandate to keep the suspect in detention while the probe goes on Reports are that the woman, on her way to Nicaragua, was halted by Dominican authorities due to purported discrepancies in her documents

Mayra Jiménez, who leads the Dominican Ministry for Women, shared insights indicating that confusion arose over the surname of the boy’s father, resulting in the woman ’ s detention

According to reports, following her detainment, the woman claimed that the agent in question demanded she undresses in the cell Fearing for the safety of her son, who was asleep in the cell with her, she felt compelled to comply

In response to the woman’s account, prosecutors were quick to request an arrest y r s

Jamaica’s Diaspora Digital Registration Portal set for public testing later this year

Jamaica’s Digital Registration

Portal, designed to harness data for informed diaspora-related decision-making, is on track for public testing later in the year

Crafted in collaboration with the InterAmerican Development (IDB), this portal is a key outcome of the National Diaspora Policy

According to the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), the initiative underscores the Jamaican government’s dedication to devising diaspora strategies that elevate both national development and the diaspora community’s well-being

Tailored services for diaspora

Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Alando Terrelonge noted that the portal is not just a data collector

Its services are custom-designed, offering outreach activities, socio-economic engagement, and efficient data collection and access

Terrelonge shared that these services will seamlessly align with various Jamaican government sectors

He was speaking during the Regional Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Canada on September 23

This event became a melting pot of Jamaican diaspora members from all over Canada, an occasion to rejoice in their mutual heritage, foster cultural ties, and brainstorm collaborative advancements

Terrelonge also spoke of the Jamaica Diaspora Engagement Model (JAMDEM)

Being co-developed with the International Organization for Migration (IMO), this investment portal is expected to be operational in the coming months

Terrelonge shared a noticeable enthusiasm

is bubbling among diaspora youth, with many showing a strong inclination towards education, sports, tech, tourism, investment, innovation, and arts

Hon Terrelonge pointed out the proactive steps taken to connect with relevant ministries

This is to optimally harness their resources, especially in anticipation of the commendable efforts of the Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council as directed by the National Diaspora Policy

Hon Terrelonge’s concluding appeal was for unified support for these platforms, emphasizing their design with the diaspora’s feedback and needs in mind

He envisions a future where members of the diaspora recognize Jamaica as their true birthright and actively contribute to its prosperity

Brothers born in poverty make history in mixed martial arts

Born and raised in a single-room wooden structure in Kingston, Jamaica, Fabian and Leon Edwards experienced the harsh realities of poverty, drugs, and violence from an early age Their mother, seeking a better future for her sons, relocated the family to Birmingham, UK The move was life-altering but also exposed the brothers to different kinds of challenges

The Jarvis Road Estate in Erdington, Birmingham, offered a relative sanctuary compared to Kingston, yet dangers lurked Soon, both Fabian and Leon found themselves entangled with the wrong crowd

Realizing her sons were on a dangerous path, their mother introduced them to mixed martial arts (MMA) as a last-ditch effort to steer them away from trouble

The young men took to the sport with gusto, little knowing this would put them on a trajectory to make sports history

An article by The Sun has highlighted how they are on the brink of becoming the first siblings to hold titles simultaneously in both the UFC and Bellator two of MMA’s most significant promotions

Fabian Edwards has his eyes set on history as he prepares to challenge undefeated Johnny Eblen for the middleweight title at Bellator 299 in Dublin on Friday night

This comes after Leon’s extraordinary triumph in clinching the UFC welterweight title last August Fabian is determined to share a historic spotlight with his brother and is looking forward to seizing his moment of glory

Fabian’s confidence has been hard-earned, shaped by a two-fight losing streak that made critics question his potential

Despite their meteoric rise, the Edwards brothers remain grounded They owe their success to their mother, a single immigrant parent, who saw the potential for greatness in them and nudged them toward it

Fabian is acutely aware of his roots and the incredible journey he has made A win at the upcoming Bellator would not just be a personal triumph but a tribute to the sacrifices his family has made

Miami man admits to distributing HIV drugs across the US

A man from Miami has admitted to distributing between $16 7 million to $25 million of misbranded and tainted HIV drugs to pharmacies across the country

The unsuspecting pharmacies, in turn, dispensed these drugs to unaware patients

43-year-old Armando Herrera, after entering a guilty plea in the U S. District Court in Miami, now stands on the precipice of facing up to five years in prison

He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 21 The official charge, as per the court records, is conspiring to introduce adulterated and misbranded medications into the U S market

To define, a medication gets the label of being ‘adulterated’ when it has been partially or

fully replaced by another substance

Reports are that working in tandem with accomplices, Herrera established entities in Texas, California, and Washington

They procured vast amounts of tainted and mislabeled HIV drugs through legal channels

Following this, the group manipulated the pill packaging and then sold them to wholesalers at notably discounted prices

While these wholesalers actively participated in the illicit venture, the pharmacies remained oblivious to the drug alterations or misbranding

Key medications caught in this web included Truvada, Biktarvy, and a few others yet to be named Notably, Truvada plays a dual role – it is used as a preventive measure against

Caribbean Diaspora fromA1

Jamaicans make up half of the Caribbean population living in the United States, according to data released by the U S Census Bureau

Of the 2 6 million people, some 1,047,117 people identified as Jamaica, another 1,032,737 identified as Haitian, 194,364 identified as being Trinidadian and Tobagonian, and another 119,806 identified as being West Indian

The number of respondents who identified as being solely Caribbean was 2 1 million, with Jamaicans and Haitians together accounting for over 80% of that group

This is the first time that a U S Census has included Caribbean groups Other new groups include German, Lebanese, Chinese, Native Hawaiian and Mexican — and American Indian and Alaska Native tribes and villages like the Navajo Nation The release includes information about more than 200 detailed race and

ethnic groups not tabulated from previous censuses

Previously, the Census Bureau released 2020 Census data on the Hispanic or Latino population and major race groups such as White, Black or African American, Asian, etc

“These 2020 Census data illuminate the rich diversity across our nation,” said Rachel Marks, chief of the Census Bureau’s Racial Statistics Branch

“We have this comprehensive picture thanks to the millions of people who responded to the census and provided their detailed racial, ethnic or tribal identity, and thanks to the stakeholders, researchers and tribal leaders who helped us improve how we collect these detailed data ”

The Jamaican diaspora in the United States is the largest Caribbean immigrant group An estimate from the American Community Survey says there are over 1 5 million people of

HIV for those at risk and also in tandem with other drugs for treatment

On the other hand, Biktarvy is specifically prescribed for HIV treatment Both these medications are products of Gilead Sciences

According to court filings, from this illicit venture, Herrera and his group received payments ranging between $16 7 million and $25 million from two wholesalers

The filings did not say how Herrera and his co-conspirators acquired the drugs

It is often observed that such medications are deviated from the legal market by buying them from patients who have them prescribed

Several dancehall entertainers including Cham, Serani, Kemar Highcon, Pamputtae, Delly Ranks, and Quick Cook congratulated the 51-year-old deejay on getting the green light to travel to the United Kingdom

While the deejay is celebrating now being able to travel to the U K , he is still unable to travel to the United States — a situation the entertainer described as “devastating” to his music career and family

In a YouTube interview published last week, the warlord opened up about the challenges he has faced in having his U S

visa canceled for over a decade

“I don’t know what I did to not have a visa for 13 years, but up until this day, di embassy nuh even have a good explanation for me,” the entertainer said

“I don’t even know how I survive,” he explained “Most of my fans are in the U S , and that’s where the music market is biggest, and I can’t even get to go promote my songs or greet my fans or even my family, my kids I got several kids in the U S , so this affected me devastatingly ”

The entertainer stated that for 13 years, he had been traveling to the United States on waivers, up until 2010 when he along with Beenie Man, Sizzla, Mavado, and Aidonia, were “barred from boarding any US-bound craft ” Mavado and Aidonia have since had their visas reinstated

While the visa revocation had negatively impacted his career, Bounty Killer said that he is grateful for the role that social media has played, in helping to bridge the gap to his U S fans His Verzuz battle against Beenie Man, for example, allowed him to engage with his North

Aidonia and wife Kimberly expecting baby boy

Dancehall entertainer Aidonia and his wife Kimberly Megan are expecting a baby boy, following the loss of their first child in December last year

The couple held their baby shower on Sunday, where they revealed the gender of their baby

The couple, surrounded by their loved ones, jumped for joy as the confetti cannon releaved a blue color confirming the baby’s gender

The news comes almost a year after the couple lost their 9-year-old son, King Khalif

Lawrence, who had been battling cancer since 2019

During the baby shower, the couple was spotted wearing badges dedicated to King Khalif

Last month, at a Chris Brown concert at the National Stadium in Kingston, the dancehall artist called his pregnant wife to the stage to share the news with the audience that they were expecting another baby

According to a police report, 29-year-old David Clarke, the brother of the entertainer, and another man were at a yard in Grants Pen when a group of armed men approached and opened fire Clarke was shot and killed, while the other man was injured

The incident occurred around 2 AM on Saturday morning

The rising dancehall star has been the subject of much controversy since June this year when his name was brought up in an investigation regarding the death of 45-year-old businessman Omar ‘Romie’ Wright, who was killed in Kingston Rumors swirled on social media that Wright and Jahshii’s mother were involved in an altercation prior to him being killed on June 7 — an altercation that the entertainer’s mother Lorna Henry later denied ever happening

Jahshii surrendered himself to the police in the company of his attorneys, King’s Counsel Peter Champagnie and Richard Lynch He was questioned by the police and released shortly after

The following month, in July, a motor vehicle belonging to the artiste was attacked by armed men

The artist and his entourage were traveling along Constant Spring Road in Kingston after leaving an event when the vehicle was strayed with gunshots Six men, all members of the entertainer’s entourage, were shot and injured The entertainer reportedly left the event in another car and escaped injury

Guyana Amazon Warriors claim rst CPL crown in convincing fashion

In a historic night at Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana, home team Guyana Amazon Warriors clinched the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title with a resounding 9-wicket victory over Trinbago Knight Riders on Sunday, marking the franchise’s first CPL championship title in six final appearances

In a strategic move, the Warriors won the toss and bowled first, a decision that would set the stage for their triumph They displayed exceptional discipline in their bowling, limiting the Knight Riders to a mere 94 runs

The bowling prowess of Captain Imran Tahir (2-8) and Gudakesh Motis (2-7) shone through as they delivered economical spells, while Dwaine Pretorius left an indelible mark by claiming four crucial wickets for 26 runs

The Knight Riders, on the other hand, faced a challenging task in defending their modest total With spinners in their ranks, they attempted to stymie the Warriors’ run chase, making for a nervy affair However, it was the duo of Saim Ayub (52 not out) and an unbeaten 32 from Shai Hope, the leading run-scorers in this CPL season, who eventually guided their team to victory

Despite a 24-run opening partnership between Chadwick Walton and Mark Deyal for the Knight Riders, wickets fell at regular intervals, including

the prized scalp of Nicholas Pooran, who fell victim to the seam bowling onslaught in the Powerplay

Captain Kieron Pollard’s departure immediately after the Powerplay marked the beginning of spin’s dominance in the match, with Motie and Tahir wreaking havoc by collectively claiming four wickets while conceding a mere 15 runs

As the Knight Riders sought to mount a resistance, Keacy Carty tried valiantly, but the dwindling partnerships forced him to take more risks His innings concluded for 38 runs with a spectacular catch by Shimron Hetmyer, and the Knight Riders were eventually bundled out for a paltry 94 runs

The Warriors’ chase, however, didn’t come without its challenges Losing the early wicket of Keemo Paul for a run-a-

ball 11, opening the innings, added a layer of tension to their pursuit

The Knight Riders employed both Akeal Hosein and Sunil Narine during the Powerplay in a bid to snatch more wickets. Nonetheless, the Warriors weathered the storm, concluding the Powerplay at 29-1 Ayub and Hope exhibited the stellar form that had seen them emerge as the leading run-scorers of the season Their partnership carried the team to a historic victory, with Ayub reaching his half-century in style, smashing a six off the last ball of the chase, thereby securing the maiden CPL title for the Guyana Amazon Warriors
