SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS W hat is the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)? RSVP encourages Otero County residents age 55 and older to use their time, talents and life-long experience to improve their community’s critical needs. Volunteers can choose from over 70 work sites throughout Otero County, with a multitude of job opportunities and the choice of how much time to donate. The purpose of RSVP is to respond to the unmet human, educational, environmental and public safety needs of our community through non-profit, faith-based and governmental organizations. A primary part of our mission is to educate our community on the valuable services that RSVP provides and to give our volunteers the recognition they so richly deserve. Along with the satisfaction of helping their community, volunteers receive many benefits such as supplemental insurance and mileage reimbursement. RSVP EXAMPLES: Volunteers mentor and tutor all ages (some with Bi-lingual capabilities), help the community recover from natural disasters, serve as museum tour guides and deliver meals to seniors who are homebound.
What is the Senior Companion Program (SCP)? The SCP mission is to encourage Otero County senior citizens aged 55 and older to serve as senior companion volunteers for our homebound and frail elderly. SCP volunteers will work with homebound clients to enable them to maintain their independence in their own homes longer and to have a better quality of life. Our program office staff will provide the training, encouragement and support that the senior companion volunteers need in order to carry out program duties and achieve their own personal goals.
What is the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)? The FGP mission is to encourage Otero County senior citizens aged 55 and older to serve as foster grandparents for students as tutors and mentors. Volunteers will develop a supportive intergenerational relationship that will enable these students to achieve their educational and personal goals. The program office staff will provide the training, encouragement and support that the volunteers need in order to carry out their program duties and to achieve their own personal goals. The strength of our community is our volunteer’s involvement, love and care for their community. PAGE 17

ADVENTURES FOR LIFE Learn more at www.alamogordo.org | # A d v e n t u r e s F o r L i f e In an effort to improve the community experience and attract new residents, businesses, talent, and visitors to the community, the City of Alamogordo, the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce and leading businesses are championing the new “Adventures” brand, which embraces the mindset that:
Alamogordo is a place that inspires people to seek everyday life adventures while enjoying a quality of life second to none. This brand positioning is highlighted by the new brand line “Adventures for Life.” The branding initiative is designed to strengthen the reputation of Alamogordo and provide a mechanism for community members to collaborate and make Alamogordo a great place to live, work, play and stay. It's not just about a tag line or logo, the initiative is creating ways for community members and businesses to come together and work to actually improve our community. As part of the community-wide branding initiative, an Adventures Action Team has been formed. The Team is a volunteer group open to all residents, businesses, and organizations who share a desire to improve Alamogordo amenities and offerings for residents, businesses and visitors.
Adventures Action Team goals: •
Enhance the Alamogordo “Adventures” experience
•
Promote what makes Alamogordo unique
