SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS What is the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)? RSVP encourages Otero County residents age 55 and older to use their time, talents and life-long experience to improve our community’s critical needs. Volunteers can choose from over 70 work sites throughout Otero County, with a multitude of job opportunities and the choice of how much time to donate. The purpose of RSVP is to respond to the unmet human, educational,
environmental and public safety needs of our community through non-profit, faith-based and governmental organizations. A primary part of our mission is to educate our community on the valuable services that RSVP provides and to give our volunteers the recognition they so richly deserve. Along with the satisfaction of helping our community, volunteers receive many benefits such as supplemental insurance and mileage reimbursement. RSVP EXAMPLES : Volunteers mentor and tutor all ages (some with Bi -lingual capabilities), help the community recover from natural disasters, serve as museum tour guides and deliver meals to seniors who are homebound.
What is the Senior Companion Program (SCP)? The SCP mission is to encourage Otero County senior citizens aged 55 and older to serve as senior companion volunteers for our homebound and frail elderly. SCP volunteers will work with homebound clients to enable them to maintain their independence in their own homes longer and to have a better quality of life. Our program office staff will provide the training, encouragement
and support that the senior companion volunteers need in order to carry out program duties and achieve their own personal goals.
What is the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)? The FGP mission is to encourage Otero County senior citizens aged 55 and older to serve in our local classrooms as foster grandparents tutors and mentors to students who need one-on-one help with academic and social skills. Volunteers will develop a supportive
intergenerational relationship that will enable these students to achieve their educational and personal goals. The program office staff will provide the training, encouragement and support that the volunteers need in order to carry out their program duties and to achieve their own personal goals. The strength of our community is our volunteer’s involvement, love and care for our community. PAGE 17

COMING SOON!!! OUTDOOR FUTSAL COURT What is Futsal? Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced game that mirrors soccer but can be played on an indoor or outdoor court. Futsal is played with 5 to 6 players per side, the court is much smaller and the ball is heavier.
Why Futsal? Futsal creates an environment conducive to learning where players are able to improve their decision making skills, provides the players with more ball touches, and the opportunity to score more goals.
Futsal encourages regaining control of the ball and
maximizes the active participation, minimizing the inactivity of the players.
