EDITOR'S NOTE
PLANNERS & JOURNALS, OH MY! By Phillis Clements
I've been journaling, scrapbooking, planning and crafting for most of my life. Imagine my surprise to learn that there is a whole group of people out there who do all of these things and that there are conferences and meetups about it. The crafting industry alone is a $44 billion industry, as reported by the Association For Creative Industries (AFCI) in a study they produced in 2017.
Astonishingly, they report that nearly 62% of U.S. households participate in at least one crafting hobby. That is so amazing! During the last three years, I have rekindled my love of planning and crafting. I have joined so many groups on Facebook and became an avid follower of various creatives on Instagram. Through these "enablers" I have discovered the wonderful tools created to make our crafting and planning lives much easier. Being a dedicated gadget girl, I of course have to partake in the acquisition of said gadgets to make my planning and crafting life much easier. Wink, wink. I felt it my duty to share all of this wonderfulness. Hence, the creation of this magazine. I hope you enjoy it. NOM A D I C Cafe | 2 |45 Journal

LEE FISHER INSTAGRAM - @FISHERLEEM Meeting with Lee Fisher last month was so much fun. She is every bit as amazing as her beautifully eclectic style shows in her feed on Instagram. She started out scrapbooking about 27 years ago. Besides her being a wife and mother, she has gone from being an employee at a popular scrapbooking store to the owner of her own scrapbooking business, to simply enjoying the pleasures of it all scrapbooking, planning, memory keeping, crafting and meeting others in this wonderful community. Here are a few things we talked about: Journal Cafe | 7
Favorite thing about planning: It's a way to capture history and have a reference because technology is not always the best record keeper. Writing allows me a way to capture things I might otherwise forget because "life" gets in the way. Planners you use: I started planning with Heidi Swapp; personal ringbound A5; then to travelers notebooks, size B6. Hobonichi Cousin (AVEC) and Weeks are my latest loves. Favorite tools: Prima glue sticks, a good set of scissors (she's a big fussy cutter), Scotch laminator, Tombow Monoline 0.3 Tip: Planning is not about perfection.
YOU CAN'T USE UP CREATIVITY. THE MORE YOU USE, THE MORE YOU HAVE.

During the past three years I have had the pleasure of attending the largest annual planner conference held in the U.S. by none other than my friend Louise Umeki of PlannerCon. This year's international conference was held in San Francisco, California. It is the third year for this record breaking conference that hosts a record 1200+ attendees. In addition to the annual conference, PlannerCon holds smaller events called PlannerCon Parties in various cities across the nation.
"Going to PlannerCon as a VIP is the best!"
Last year, the PlannerCon parties were held in Salt Lake City, San Diego, Cleveland, Honolulu and Charlotte. In 2019, there will be five cities hosting these smaller parties - New Brunswick, Atlanta, Irvine, Houston, and Honolulu. It's a great way to learn more about what the PlannerCon community is about on a smaller scale and more of a party atmosphere. So, if you're traveling alone, no worries. There's a Yolo Solo group made up of folks coming alone and you can join that group on Facebook as well. To learn more about PlannerCon join the groups on Facebook. There is a main group (Official PlannerCon), a social group for sharing spreads, tips, tools, shops, etc. (PlannerCon Social) and a group for the parties (PlannerCon Parties) to give you all of the information you need to attend as well as learn about what others have experienced. TAG IT UP!
One of the winners of the Tag It Up! class at PlannerCon 2019 At PlannerCon, I have met some fabulous local personalities, equally dynamic creatives and shop owners who produce fantastic merchandise for us to use and enjoy. Louise and her team work hard to provide the most amazing experiences with some of the industry's most notable product producers and personalities. Each event always features great speakers, sponsors, vendors, workshops and of course swag. I can definitely attest to the fact that attending any PlannerCon event is life changing. I have seen people who were anxious when they first arrived, because they didn't know what to expect, transform into excited social butterflies within a hour of arrival. That's what's its' all about. Creating a community that is positive, inclusive and safe for people to have fun.

AND THE MEN HAVE IT KICK ROCKS CLOTHING INSTAGRAM - @ALONZOJ.R The new trend in clothing these days isn't just for couture designers. The new crowd is made up of young professionals with a flair for urban style.
Meet the young man behind the urban clothing startup Kick Rocks Clothing, Alonzo Clements, Jr. Yes, we are related. What can I say, crafting runs in the family. Ever since I can remember, my nephew has always had a passion for creating; whether it was music, songwriting or clothes. He started his clothing line when he was 17 as a way to contribute positively to our community. Kick Rocks Clothing has a mission to change how you think through fashion by expressing abstract ideas about your personal life and the challenges in society today. Alonzo uses his design skills to create the graphics for his clothing and leverages tools like the ever popular Cricut Explorer Air 2 and the Cricut Heat Press. You can see him crafting by clicking the link in the video attached his picture to the right. Journal Cafe | 14

FEATURES
CRAFTER SPOTLIGHT MAC COX INSTAGRAM @MACOUTURECRAFTING Speaking with this fascinating woman was such a pleasure. She is one of the most multi-talented crafters I've ever met. You have to be sure to follow her on Instagram and subscribe to her You Tube channel. Favorite thing about planning: The relaxation it brings. It's an escape for me. It's my way to do self-care. Are people in your inner circle crafters as well?: Surprisingly, no. Although my best friend is good at everything she does. No one is really a planner or paper crafter. Favorite tip: If you see something you'd like to try, just do it. Buy the best your money can afford. Don't start with the cheapest. Who do you admire in the industry?: Ashley Reynolds of Cloth & Paper Marquita of @athomewithquita Stephanie Fleming Dyan Reaveley Journal Cafe | 15
