BVD Petroleum has expanded to Western Canada andhave added a new Winnipeg Travel Center to their existing Calgary location. These centers are comfortable homes away from home, and provide plenty of big rig parking, Esso diesel, food, showers, and a comfortable lounge where you cankick back, relax, and recharge. In our distribution travels we have a pet peeve. My wife and myself, deliver our magazines to some 200 locations in the 3 prairie provinces. Completion of our route takes 8 days.. During our travels we find that there is a lot of abuse of the equipment and materials, e.g.racks that have not been maintained (dusty, dirty), materials that are outdated, some publications on the wrong racks. We are proud of our publication and value the locations that allow us to distribute our product. We challenge everyone to do their part to maintain their racks in a professional and responsible way.

Southern Alberta Truck Exposition
T
here is a group of transportation professionals in southern Alberta who have taken it upon themselves to promote the industry. Together they created the Southern Alberta Truck Exposition Association. On the weekend of June 18th they held their second annual exposition. This event has been designed to highlight the industry through education and information. The show was well attended by
3000 plus attendees, with an entrance fee of a donation to the Lethbridge Food Bank. The attendees donated $525.00 and contributed 400 pounds of food. The event drew 53 participants for the Show and Shine, and 46 vendors eager to showcase their products and services. There were a number of transport companies in attendance looking to hire qualified operators.

Events like this are very important to the industry. We need to replace the people retiring and make the public aware that we are more than just big trucks, and it’s likely the products they use day-to-day are delivered to them by truck. We also need to build an awareness of the fact that there are many levels to our industry. There are challenging career possibilities in support

staff, driving, dispatching, mechanics, office staff, safety, compliance, payroll, sales, and of course management. It takes a lot of people to keep a truck moving and we hope events like this one will encourage new people to enter the industry.

2016 Annual Link Conference and Charity Golf
A
hole in one! The Country Club in Woodbridge, Ontario on July 13th is the scene for three hours of learning plus an afternoon and evening of golfing with carrier and broker customers as well as partners of TransCore Link Logistics. From the Fireside Room to the golf greens, they network, learn, play and share laughs as they mingle and get to know one another in a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. The goal of the day is to provide an opportunity for the company’s customers to interact at a different level. Many of the event participants are exchanging phone calls on a daily business as part of their day-to-day
work, so it’s great when they can put that aside for a day and be acquainted with business partners on a more social level. Many who come to the conference to learn about what’s trending in the industry and discover tools that can make them more profitable, stay for the afternoon tournament. The big networking moments! When morning conference attendees are given a networking challenge designed to encourage business card exchange, and afternoon golfers participate in Link’s Meet Your Match game where each golfer is assigned a load or a truck going to a specific destination. Throughout the course of the day, they must find their match. TransCore Link Logistics is in its 18th year of hosting their annual conference and charity golf tournament raising over a quarter of a million dollars for Canadian children’s charities.
