ell, we meet again. Another year has flown past and we are welcoming the arrival of 2016. The staff and management of Driver’s Choice Magazine would like to extend their best wishes to all of our many friends and associates in the transportation industry. In our last issue, I mentioned the word pride and how proud I am to be part of this industry and the people in it. We hope 2016 will be one of our best years yet. I know we hear doom and gloom daily, but remember people make the difference and our industry is second to none. Now that winter is here, I would like to remind every professional operator to drive to the road and weather conditions. Your life and load are priceless, so don’t take chances. While on a distribution run through the gap (Saskatchewan) recently, I had the opportunity to have a roadside chat with a member of the RCMP. No, I was not getting a ticket. The cruiser was on the side of the road with its lights flashing while we talked. It caused me some concern when the vehicles that passed us not only failed to change lanes and give us a wide berth, but failed to slow down. This not only included four wheelers, but also semis. The law states that you must slow to 60 km/hour when passing an emergency scene. All I could think about was that professional drivers could be spending $300 to $400 on tickets. I know how hard you guys and gals work for your money, so don’t spend it needlessly on the government; nor do you need to lose points, take a trip to the Safety Officer’s office, or put your safety bonus at risk.

10 Long Haul Truck Drivers Required Immediately Job Duties include: operate and drive tractor-trailer, articulated, double trailers or straight trucks to transport goods and materials between BC and Alberta. Plan travel logistics, schedules and routes, use gps, maps and other trip planning aids. Responsible for all documentation regarding delivery and pick up, responsible for fuel consumption logs, hours of service (log books). Perform and document pre-trip inspections, en-route and post-trip inspections of vehicle and safety equipment. Fill out and report accident or incident reports, maintenance and/or repair reports, trip reports. Responsible for securing cargo properly. Receive and relay information to central dispatcher, Drive independently or as part of a two-person team or convoy. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment, monitor vehicle performance, mechanical fitness and may be required to perform roadside repairs.
Terms of employment: This is a permanent full time position - Wage: $24/hr CDN
Benefits: We offer optional employer/employee extended medical benefits plan after 6 months. Location of work: 620 Aldford Avenue, Delta and various locations across BC and AB Skills & Education: High School preferred. Work Experience: At least 1 year truck driving experience and clean driver's abstract preferred.
