eDITOR’S nOTE READING YOUR SURROUNDINGS On a recent distribution trip, we were returning home from Edmonton and as usual, were traveling close to the speed limit, moving with the flow of traffic. It became quite apparent to us that the vehicles around us were not reading or seeing what was going on around them. There were three semis south bound - two in the driving lane and one in the passing lane. We were following the one in the passing lane. An SUV came up behind us and began to tailgate, making us feel very uncomfortable. Our response was to move back into the driving lane. When we moved out of the way we were passed by the SUV with the driver issuing the usual single finger salute. The offending vehicle still had no place to go with the road in front of him blocked by semis. He had not read the road or the situation around him, He was only interested in one thing and that was going fast. That’s when he took a chance that could have cost him, and others, their life. He passed on the right dove between the two semis in the through lane. Fortunately he made it back into the passing lane between the tail of the one truck and the nose of the passing truck. He got away with this move this time but this could well have been disastrous and ended up as a fatal accident. We would like to remind everyone to pay attention and read your surroundings. Expect the unexpected. Always be prepared for what may happen next.
