INDEPENDENT HUSTLERS MIKE PRINCE How did you first become a recording artist?

I have always had a love for music, and my family has been in the music business a majority of my life.

Why did you choose to get into the music industry?

I would say music really chose me. I have been so heavily endowed in the industry with my family making history of music for over 30 years.

Are you currently with a record label?

Rap-A-Lot Records is my family, but I am an independent artist. I am also the owner of Freak-A-Lot entertainment which takes on many projects including music.

What’s the current project you’re promoting?

I am currently promoting my new Hit single “I Do This”.

What can listeners expect to hear from your music?

My listeners can expect a record that allows you to feel good and enjoy yourself, dance if you want to dance etc.

What sets you apart from other artists?

I would say it’s my knowledge, originality, and personality.

Are there any artists or DJs you’ve been working with, or would like to?

I am open to work with anyone known or unknown in this industry. Shout Out to DJ Hard Hitta that’s my Fam!

Who are your musical influences?

I don’t necessarily have any when it comes to music. I am very versatile with no direct influence when it comes to recording. I just do what I feel.

How do you define success?

My definition of success is in the terms of achieving personal goals whether its business, family or overcoming an obstacle in life. There is no right or wrong when speaking of success. It is about the measures you set for yourself.

What have you accomplished so far in your career?

My new single has accomplished not only the radio play support of Radio One but also at other top stations. Including major DJ support, various spins at many clubs and venues, and countless successful performances.

What are your career plans over the next year?

I plan on having my single “ I Do This” make it into the billboard top 25.

What do you ultimately want to accomplish in the music industry?

I want to be able to not only enhance what foundation that has been laid, but also create a foundation to allow others an opportunity to do even greater.

What is your opinion of the mixtape game and market?

I am somewhat bias. Every man and woman’s time and effort should be valued, so for me I chose to release a single rather than mixtape.

Where do you think the music industry is headed as a whole? I believe the entire industry is headed Digital.

Are there any other ventures you want to let our readers know about?

I have been involved with an intervention prevention program I started for the youth called “Don’t Let This Happen to You”. I am also creating a label called la familia rooted by Latino artists, as well as my sports and entertainment management, “I Do This” apparel, Mike Prince clothing etc.

What do you like about Coast 2 Coast Live?

I like that Coast to Coast allows independent artists and opportunity to be heard and still find success and https://www.soundcloud.com/freakalot https://www.reverbnation.com/mikeprince7 https://www.instagram.com/mikeprince_idothis

ZOEY DOLLAZ THINK IT’S A GAME RECORDS WWW.T WIT T ER.CO M/ZOEY D OL L A Z

So for our fans who don’t know you are, give them a lil intro to Zoey Dollaz... You know what it is.. it’s the kid.. Zoey Dollaz, reppin that Dade County...Miami, FL. All My Haitians Stand Up!! Everybody from Miami...Stand Up!! Why’d you choose to get into music? I’ve been doing music since I was young; I just have a love for music. That’s the reason behind it. Not because I knew it was going to change my life, but for the love I have for it. Are there any rappers who influenced your music? I probably got like 5 rappers who have influenced me, like Jay Z and others, but besides that the rest are all R&B. So, it turns out that Meek was the first person to show you love on the internet. How did you make that connection?

on the other hand, XXL personally called me and offered me the 2-page spread. I’m pretty sure that a lot of other people who didn’t get picked, didn’t get a spot in the magazine period. It’s not a situation where they played me. Because when you go pick up the magazine, Zoey is still in there. So the fans aren’t really missing out on anything once they realize that I am in the Magazine. I have a personal relationship with XXL, so I didn’t take it to heart. I feel like no matter if I’m not on there, my state is still being represented on there with Kodak and Denzel. My City still on there, so we winnin. Your latest singles are more club oriented, is that your main focus? To be honest I really hate the clubs, but you gotta satisfy the clubs. I would rather satisfy the fans in the clubs and figure out a way to loop my way in and out. What do you think about the current state of Hip-Hop?

Meek Mill was the first person to show me major love. Even before I was buzzing, when he would come to Miami, I was always around him going to clubs. Like, he always showed me love. He’s a very genuine person, and a real cool dude. He always tells me to keep grinding, cuz one day you gone see a change.

I like it, It’s great!! The younger kids are expressing themselves and how they feel. The legends are still making classic music. So I’m very pleased with the current state.

When Diddy and French got on your “Blow A Check” remix, did you know it was going to happen?

It was like how I do everything else with my projects. Just go in record a lot of songs, then pick out 10 to 12 or however much records it is. Then release it.

I was in the studio when they did it. “Blow A Check” was buzzin around the first Revolt Music Conference. So with Diddy hearing it everywhere, and French being a mutual friend. It just happened.

What can we expect from you in the future?

Congratulations on being one of the newest members of “FreeBandz”. Can you tell us how you made that connect?

What do you think about the mixtape market?

Well me and Future just been cool for a minute. And I got a friend of mine who’s on my management team, who is also a friend of Future. So it was again, just mutual friends getting together and making things happen. So you would say that it’s definitely about who you know in the music industry? Yeah, it’s definitely about who you know, but it’s also about your work ethic. So you gotta make sure that your name is being brought up everywhere. And you also gotta make sure you are everywhere as well. You were up for debate as a XXL Freshman, why do you think that didn’t happen? Besides the fact that they gave me my own 2-page article in the Freshman Issue, I feel like the people that was on there have a much bigger social following than I do. So I think that helped them as far as the voting goes. And also they all work hard, not saying that they work harder than me, or that I don’t work hard enough, but they worked for it. You never really know why you don’t get picked. But

You dropped “Who Don’t Like Dollaz” back in August 2015, what was the creative process like?

I dropped Port-Au-Prince 4th of July. But just be on the lookout for a lot more music…

Nothing changed to me, except that mixtapes are more like albums now due to the fact that the internet is now a big platform. It’s just a different way to make music. What do you ultimately want to accomplish in the music industry? Just put out great music, build a bigger fan base, and really connect with my fans on a personal level. And keep getting the big connects. How do you think your music will influence others? It allows others to open up and be ok with expressing their feelings, emotions, and give off a positive vibe. What advice do you have for up and coming artists? Just stay humble, work hard, and do you. Anything else you would like to add? Just go cop that Port-Au-Prince and I appreciate Coast 2 Coast for supporting me from Day 1.

INDEPENDENT HUSTLERS KHALAMITY Khal Anderson is a Hip-Hop Artist/Audio Engineer from the small city of Fort Dodge, Iowa. The 23-year-old rapper first picked up a pen 14 years ago; armed with talent and determination, Khal knew there was more to life then cornfields and paying bills. Without many options in producers, Khal decided to enroll at Full Sail University to study Audio Production in order to become a well-rounded artist who can engineer as well as he can rap. Today Khal records and mixes his own music along with a handful of local artists in his home set up dubbed Klī’Maktik Studio.

How did you first become a recording artist? I started rapping at a young age, I wanna say I was 9, but I’m sure it was more like 6 or 7. My older brother was the neighborhood rap star and from what I heard my father played guitar and sang a bit, so I guess you can say music’s my calling, I’ve always been a musician. Where are you currently based?

I’m currently based in my home town; Fort Dodge, Iowa, we have a lot of talented artist here who are all trying to put 515 on the map. So any record executives out there reading this, whatever you do, don’t sleep on Iowa! There’s a lot of untapped talent in these streets!

What’s the current project you’re promoting?

I’m currently working on the #StayHungryNevaThirsty mixtape. It’s got a few more months before its release ready. Also at A.C.E. we’re working with other artists like; Monie, J-Storm, and Lil Rebel, so be on the lookout for their projects as well. 2016 & 2017 will be good ones for us all.

What can listeners expect to hear from your music?

I like to make songs that people can ride to, or get up and move to, but I’ve always enjoyed making music about my trials and tribulations. One day I was hanging out with my brother writing a bit of music when he tells me, “Ya know what I love about what we do?”, “I love that we have the ability to not only take our lives and write a song about it, but by writing music that pertains to someone else’s life, we can help those without musical ability relate and express how they’re feeling.” That blew my mind and changed my entire outlook.

What is your opinion of the mixtape game and market?

From a business standpoint, typically mixtapes go for free, so I’d have to say I hate it. From a struggling underground artist’s standpoint, It’s great. It’s a way to put music out there, whether it be remixes or with instrumentals you can’t afford, mixtapes are that grey area for artists like myself to put yourself out there without all the legalities that haunt many of today’s artists.

Where do you think the music industry is headed as a whole?

Digital, everything is digital now-a-days which is really hurting our pockets, but in the same sense the digital world is making music more and more cheaper to make. In the 80’s how many of your friends had a home studio? Not many that’s for sure, now-a-days everybody and their mother has a laptop with some sort of DAW that you can make music with.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT DBREEZY Derrick Hill aka Dbreezy was born on May 10,1988 on the southeast side of Chicago. He is from Hilliard homes which is located on the Low-End of Chicago. He started off writing poems at the age of 12 but it soon developed into raps. He always had a passion for writing. Some of his musical influences are nwa, ll cool j, kid n play, rakim, tupac, biggie, jay-z, nas, eminem, kanye west, common, and micheal jackson just to name a few. He’s known for his versatile flows and catchy hooks. Even though his city is currently known for “drill” music that have brought fellow artists such as chief keef, king louie and others to fame. He does not consider himself a drill rapper. He feels like that limits his creativity and wants to be different. he takes pride in being competitive and putting out good music. He believes if you keep your faith, stay consistent and work hard its nothing that you can’t achieve. How did you first become a recording artist? Well...I started off writing poems and it gradually turned into music... I always had a passion for writing since I was 12..seeing the impact that people like Eminem or Jay-z had on people made me wanna be a recording artist.

What can listeners expect to hear from your music? U will always hear creativity.... Passion....versatile flows.... I like to be unpredictable....I might harmonize on one track and rap fast on another one...I don’t believe in being one dimensional.. Where do you think the music industry is headed as a whole? Honestly....as a whole its kinda going down the drain....the music industry truly needs to be resurrected... U have a few really good artists out there but not enough to the point it makes people feel confident that the music industry is heading in the right direction... It needs a drastic change.. Where can we find you online? Facebook.com/officialdbreezy Instagram.com/whoisdbreezy Y ouTube.com/dbreezytv773

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT DBREEZY Darkside (born Kevin Anderson) was raised in the streets of Baltimore City. Born amongst four other siblings, Darkside developed a love for music at the age of 2. Being of Jamaican decent, music was in his blood. “Ever since he could walk and talk, you would see him hanging around his father a lot”, said his mother. “He would watch him spin records on his 12 technique turntables. From that moment, we knew music was his road to success”. Darkside’s father was a “disc jockey”. At the age of 8, his father began to teach him the basics. With the seed planted, Darkside wanted to become one of the youngest DJ’s to ever set foot in Baltimore City. By 10 years of age, he knew how to turn on his father’s entire music system from beginning to end in sequence. “I remember the summer of ’96”, Darkside said. My dad and I rode to Home Depot to purchase plywood, wood glue, nails, and a bunch of other things. “To my surprise, it was so I could spend my entire summer break making speaker cases”. Darkside began to master his own craft watching older and more experienced DJ’s in the city. This positioned him to DJ local house parties, and build his name as a DJ. With hip hop being the popular genre for music that he played for party goers piqued his interest. By the age of 15, he began to develop the art of rhyming.

Where are you currently based? Atlanta Georgia What have you been doing career-wise for the past few months? I’ve been in the studio working on new material for my fans. I also have been promoting my new single ‘’XRated’’’ And is currently in process of shooting the music video as well. Where do you think the music industry is headed as a whole? I’m a lyricist at heart and I was born in the hip hop era so I thinks it’s not headed in the right direction. What do you ultimately want to accomplish in the music industry? God has obviously blessed me with this talent so I just want to be heard. I want to share this gift with the world. I don’t necessarily want or need the fame, I rather get money so that I can provide for my son the way my parent didn’t do for me but I know fame comes with what I’m chasing so I wouldn’t mind that either.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT HUNNID Hunnid, as of recent is a 2015 October artist of the month, 2x music award winner and 3x nominated artist from the south side of Chicago. Hunnid stuns his listeners with brilliant lyrical content and passionate packed punch lines. Music has been in Hunnid’s life since a child and at about 18 Hunnid began to take music seriously and delve deeper into his craft. However, it’s more than music with Hunnid, he states “I’m speaking for those people at the bottom without power or a voice, it’s bigger than me!”. Restoring the intended meaning and purpose to hip hop and rap is focal to Hunnid. He mentions that “Not many people can do what I do and be good at it but that’s not my goal with music. My goal is to bring power to the powerless through music, I actually have a message.” Support not only Hunnid but music with a message and join him on his journey to deliver his message. How did you first become a recording artist? Music was all around me when I was young and I was writing lyrics and poetry at the age of 7. Being around my grandma blasting the oldies all day definitely had an influence on my passion for music. Believe it or not my first record was recorded on the home alone recorder so technically I’ve been recording since then. I use to record myself

then play it back on the cassette. However, I officially started recording on a legitimate microphone around 17. When I was in high school a couple of classmates would make beats on the table and I would just freestyle over them in the lunchroom. After seeing the impact I had on people, I decided to take it serious and I invested in myself. What is your opinion of the mixtape game and market? I feel that its oversaturated with foolery and the mixtape game has lost its value. The mixtape era isn’t as strong nor respected like it used to be. It’s just one of those markets where there’s more trash than treasure. What can listeners expect to hear from your music? Passion, authenticity, aggression, power, and emotion composed into a new sound. I would just encourage individuals who haven’t listened yet to pull up that Google app and place Hunnid in the search engine. You should be a fan after that. http://www.reverbnation.com/onehunnid

INDEPENDENT HUSTLERS MILLA BEATZ Where are you currently based? I am based out of Des Moines, Iowa How did you first become a producer? I began producing almost 3 yrs ago after a friend of mine posted on Facebook that he was trying to find a studio to get into. I messaged him after reading his post and asked him why we couldn’t just start our own studio and ever since then I have been on a roll. What’s the current project you’re promoting? I am currently working on a Beat Mixtape featuring a few of the beats I’ve done just to showcase my range. I am also putting together a mixtape of some of the hottest artist from my area. What can listeners expect to hear from your music? I don’t like to be like every producer out there, I have a wide range of beats I can do, I promise each track is better than the last Are there any artists or DJs you’ve been working with, or would like to? I would live to work with DJ Mustard, Khaled any of the core DJ’s that I can get to host a project. Plus I wanna give a SHOUT OUT TO MY MAN DJ COMMANDO I just recently began working with him and it’s truly been an honor What have you been doing career-wise for the past few months? Mostly this past few months I have been building my beat catalog, I did attend SXSW this past march and compete in a producer competition for a company called Istandard Producers where I finished top 6 out of 24 producers from around the country. Have you done or are you planning to do mixtapes in the future? Right now I am just focusing on getting my beat mixtape ready to launch in the next month and then finishing up the mixtape I am doing featuring local artists from my area ( Both projects unnamed at this time ) Where do you think the music industry is headed as a whole? Honestly I don’t know i think back of early in the 2000’s even in the 90’s when you had record labels like Murder Inc, Cash money, Def Jam, Bad boy, ruthless and death row running the game. Now I feel everybody is too independent doing it on their own without the major labels. I mean don’t get me wrong I’d love to have my own indie label but I also wanna be a part of something bigger. Where can we find you online? I’m everywhere facebook (TheRealMillaBeatz), Instagram (MillaBeatz), twitter (MillaBeatz), soundcloud (millabeatz), and maybe soon a youtube channel What do you ultimately want to accomplish in the music industry? I wanna win Grammys. I wanna be legendary. I want people to think of my name when people talk about Dr. Dre or Timbaland or even DJ Mustard cause I don’t care what anybody says he is killing the radio game right now. What sets you apart from other artists? I’m different, I’m humble, ill party I talk to everybody that talks to me and I’m all that while managing to keep a work ethic that I like to believe can’t be matched because I don’t think anybody works harder than I do.

PRODUCERS SPOTLIGHT NATEXCHARITY

/NATEXCHARITY

Interview by DJ MSTR B K R

Good day, nateXcharity, always a pleasure to speak with you two and always happy to support any of your endeavours. You have your instrumental EP C O L O R S set to drop today. Why did you choose the title and what does it represent? Nate Coop: What’s up man! So yeah the title name just randomly came about but it made sense for the project. It just pretty much represents us painting a bunch of different pictures with our sound. We both typically make a wide range of music so to me this EP represents the wide range of “colors” that we create with sonically. Charity Evaughn: We chose the title C O L O R S because we painted many different pictures on this project. We tried to stay outside of the box by using different sounds. So the sounds for us is what paint is for artist. We were pondering on what really makes Nate and Charity blend so well: What’s our sound? How does it work when two totally different styles come together? C O L O R S was the best way to describe the blends that create our sound. The cover art is really cool. Who was the artist behind it, how did you link with them, and how was the concept developed? Nate Coop: The art work comes from Scott Harrell. He’s a dope videographer out in California that shoots a lot of videos for skateboarders on the West Coast. He’s good friends with my boy, song-writer Alex Harris. That’s how we got linked up. Charity Evaughn: At first we were going with a totally different name. I think we were thinking about “Black & White” or something like that. That’s when Nate was like that’s a great idea but instead of sticking with just plain black and white, let’s do different colors! Then we went from there and our homeboy Alex Harris, his friend, Scott Harrell made an abstract painting and we decided it would be a pretty cool cover. Turns out it was perfect due the responses we’ve received on the cover itself. Another cool aspect of this project is that each of the 7 tracks are titled after a color. In general, what gives one particular song the vibe (or color) of being “cool” and “laid back” verses another song that’s considered “hot” or “high energy?” Nate Coop: To me, there’s various things that make songs feel a certain way. Tempo, sound selection, dynamics, etc. Ultimately, it’s up to the listener to determine it makes them feel though. Charity Evaughn: It’s more of a feeling. Different sounds can give you different vibes. Thats what makes this project special. You will have several different emotions while listening. Are there any other collaborations or projects that the 2 of you have been working on that you can share with our readers? Nate Coop: I Got some dope stuff coming out with my homies Alex Harris from Dallas, Lee-Lonn from Houston and Kenny Gee from Austin. Charity Evaughn: I’m always aiming to work with as many artists and songwriters as I can. The goal is to continue to make as much dope music as possible and get it out there to the people! So much more is definitely in store!
