Place-based education Our people and places are a learning system. To enhance education in and for the local environment, cultures, history, economy and politics. coastmountaincollege.ca/place-based-learning

“It’s where I spend most of my time when I am not in school, so when I have class time in the outdoors as well, I feel really comfortable and at home. I would recommend this program to anyone who’s interested. It’s a lot of time outside, learning things about this area in particular. You’re doing real field-work and things that would be entirely transferable to a job site. It’s pretty invaluable.” Wolfgang Protzner, University Transfer student

“I etch copper using salt water and electricity. It’s a low toxic process and it’s really fun. And it’s all inspired by the things that I see regularly on Haida Gwaii that make me feel whole and complete, and connected to the planet.” Jen Wilson, Salt Fire Copper Jewelry Students in our copper etching course gained a solid understanding of how to transfer images onto metal. From their own designs, students experimented using salt water, electricity, a variety of different resists and power sources to transfer designs onto the copper permanently in an etching process that is low toxic and available in any household.
