Autumn/Winter 2015 is an exceptional knitwear season with many catwalk collections showcasing knits as the main feature. Yarns appearing in the form of brushed finishes, soft wools, mohairs and furs creating soft touch fabrics. We are particularly excited with Rowan Easy DK Knits, 12 simple designs by Martin Storey using Rowan’s new yarns, Super Fine Merino DK and Pure Wool Superwash DK.

Also set to be on the needles sooner rather than later is Shire by Lisa Richardson. This relaxed, yet classic design showcases Hemp Tweed perfectly, creating a stunning modern tweed effect. Plus, there’s much more! Read on for our top picks from the new collections – and see if you can resist casting on!

Rowan Magazine 58 This Autumn/Winter Rowan focuses on three very different stories – Frost, Tranquil and Essentials. Frost draws inspiration from cool mornings and the natural beauty of winter. Shapes are simple and unstructured, with loose fitting cardigans and coats which can be layered on cold frosty days. AVAILABLE NOW

Crisp by Gemma Atkinson using Cocoon Knitting & Crochet Magazine 58 4

My favourite Autumn/Winter design Crisp by Gemma Atkinson in Cocoon What made you pick your choice? The texture and the neckline. It’s something different but having it all in one shade keeps it simple. How would you style it for Autumn/Winter? I would knit it in alpine and pair it with a navy wool mini skirt and light grey tights. What shades would you knit it in? Alpine, Polar and Moon Kate Rathgaber – Marketing

My favourite Autumn/Winter design Hoxton in Pure Wool Superwash DK – from Easy DK Knits What made you pick your choice? This gorgeous sweater just appealed to me immediately. The colour as well as the fit stands out and feels fresh and just right for a fall day. I like that the cable detail is asymmetrical and quite bold – that definitely makes it! How would you style it for Autumn/Winter? It can easily be dressed up or down depending on the choice of outfit. I like that it’s short and fitted, which is flattering with the new high waisted style of trousers. I would definitely keep the rest of the outfit quite simple, either some slim trousers or jeans or a nice pencil skirt and boots. The sweater is warm enough to wear straight under your coat or jacket but doesn’t feel bulky. Definitely such a versatile and gorgeous piece for autumn!

Csilla Gemmecke – German Marketing

What shades would you knit it in? I am enjoying the jewel tones that are strong this autumn, so I would knit it in a deep shade of emerald green, which goes so well with both brown and black. Either that, or the perfect shade of light grey - being a huge fan of winter whites, I like to add some grey to my cream outfits.

R O W A N at LoveKnitting - Autumn Winter 2015

My favourite Autumn/Winter design Shire from Hemp Tweed. What made you pick your choice? I like it because it looks very wintery and classic. Definitely a must-have for the AW season. How would you style it for Autumn/Winter? Black skinny jeans all the way. A pair of brown boots to complement the look and a very thick (perhaps longer length) coat. Optional cashmere scarf. What shades would you knit it in? I love the shades in the original image as they are befitting of the season. A navy and red colourway would be nice too. Jonathan Coello – Catalogue Team

Brona by Gemma Atkinson using Mohair Haze Knitting & Crochet Magazine 58 10

R O W A N at LoveKnitting - Autumn Winter 2015

My favourite Autumn/Winter design Etherow from the Winterscapes. What made you pick your choice? This s a lovely snuggly jumper that is really easy to wear. I really like the snowflake design and the cosy stripy colar. The super soft alpaca yarn makes it great to knit as well as wonderful to wear. I can see myself knitting this at home on the sofa, in the office or even on the bus! How would you style it for Autumn/Winter? This is a garment that is casual enough to wear with jeans but also smart enough to wear with a skirt in the office. I think this would work nicely with some ribbed tights and a denim skirt. What shades would you knit it in? I would knit the main colour in Hambleton 110, and the detail in Oakham 102.

Brixton by Martin Storey using Pure Wool Superwash DK Easy DK Knits 12

R O W A N at LoveKnitting - Autumn Winter 2015

My favourite Autumn/Winter design Brixton in Pure Wool Superwash DK from Easy DK Knits. What made you pick your choice? I love the horizontal cable detail, it gives a lovely modern twist! The fit looks really comfortable so I can fit a layer underneath for those extra chilly days. How would you style it for Autumn/Winter? I’d layer this over a crisp white shirt and team it with pair of skinny jeans or a denim pencil skirt. What shades would you knit it in? I’m having a hard time deciding between gorgeous ‘Gold’, to brighten up those grey winter days or ‘Flint’ for a more neutral look. Maybe I’ll do both! Tina Fruhauf – Head of Supplier Ops

LoveKnitting Tip The designs in Easy DK knits can be knitted in another new Rowan DK yarn. Simply choose your favourite. Super Fine Merino DK Colour Palette made with extra fine merino wool
