APRIL The news you need this month

WE APPRECIATE OUR LINEMEN! #ThankALineman for making our communities bright.

Smart Choice Same Power. Different Hour.

You see them working in the blistering summer heat and in harsh, cold conditions. They’re dispatched during the worst thunder and ice storms. Despite the weather, hundreds of millions of people rely on them to keep the lights on. Some call them linemen. To us, they’re heroes. Georgia’s electric cooperatives, including Cobb EMC, recognize April as Lineman Appreciation Month. Throughout the month, we partner with utility companies across the state to honor the men and women who sacrifice their lives to keep our lights on and protect the public’s safety.

CALL BEFORE YOU DIG April is Safe Digging Month, which reminds us that it’s important to know what lies under the ground. For free utility locating services, all you have to do is call Georgia 811 before beginning any digging project.

CONSERVE ENERGY AT THE RIGHT TIME – SAVE MONEY Peak conservation hours can occur Monday through Friday from 2-7 p.m. during the months of June through September, excluding holidays. If you can lower your energy use during peak conservation hours, you can help your co-op reduce how much we pay for electricity and in turn, help keep rates low. One of the ways you can reduce your energy use during peak conservation hours is to spread the use of major appliances throughout the day. Want to know which appliances use the most electricity? Visit www.cobbemc.com/save and click on Appliance Calculator. This link will direct you to the Department of Energy’s appliance calculator, where you can find out which energy-hungry appliances you should avoid using during peak conservation hours. We’ll notify you when we’re experiencing peak conservation hours. Sign up to receive email notifications at www.cobbemc.com/smartalerts.

DON’T KEEP YOUR ENERGY EGGS IN ONE BASKET Cobb EMC relies on a diversified mix of energy sources to provide safe, reliable and affordable electricity. Our energy mix includes coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, solar and other green power sources. We’re looking out for the environment and planning for the future by expanding our renewable energy portfolio. Currently, solar energy provides 6.5 percent of the energy needed to serve our members.
