At Cobham Hall, we want all students to flourish and to be equipped to succeed in an ever-changing and modern, global society. We recognise the importance of offering opportunities outside of the regular classroom to help students broaden and deepen their knowledge and understanding, to discover that there is more in them than they know. This wide-ranging and exciting Saturday Enrichment Programme is designed to provide opportunities for all students to discover and develop their talents to the full and to become life-long learners, The Saturday Enrichment Programme builds on our Personal Discovery Framework which is a wide-ranging and imaginative curriculum that provides opportunities for students to acquire or enhance skills that are considered essential for the 21st Century workplace. It develops the attributes of well-rounded individuals who are independent, resilient, entrepreneurial, responsible and engaged in a range of interests. It is also designed to enable them to be grounded by being active within the local community and the world around them by engaging in service opportunities for the benefit of others. The variety of activities on offer here ensures that students’ curiosity, creativity and love of learning is fostered, that the invaluable skills of teamwork, perseverance and confidence are nurtured, and that the characteristics of tolerance, respect, integrity and dignity are cultivated. The Saturday Enrichment Programme is a key part of a Cobham Hall education. For this reason, we place huge importance on attendance at these activities just as we do for lessons during the week. In order to achieve full attendance at these activities, we would appreciate the help and support of parents/guardians. Within this booklet, you will find details of how the Saturday Enrichment Programme will work for this coming academic year, and details of how students can select which Saturdays to attend. You will notice some slight changes, the most obvious is that the programme will now operate via the Cobham Hall School Cloud website, which is also used for online parents’ meetings. I hope that you find the range of activities and opportunities here both inspirational and engaging.

5

and how to book Students will be able to choose a variety of different activities from the Saturday Enrichment schedule. Each Year Group will have a minimum number of Saturdays that they are expected to attend across the academic year. Some Saturdays will be compulsory, such as Open Mornings and Festival Day, and some will be compulsory for certain groups of students. However, the majority of Saturdays will be chosen by the students themselves. Saturday activities that are chosen by the student will usually be open to all Year Groups. This will enable students from across the School to get to know each other better and further enhance Cobham Hall’s community. However, some activities will have a limited number of places to facilitate the enjoyability of the experience, or else are limited to certain year groups.

On the next pages you will find: • •

• • •

An overview of all the optional activities by term. A list, by Year Group, of all the Compulsory Saturdays – remember, some of these are compulsory for everyone and some are compulsory for certain groups of students. More detailed information about each Saturday activity A planning sheet – to enable students to write down their compulsory Saturdays and their chosen Saturdays How to select activities and rank them in order of preference using the School Cloud website.

Things to note: •

• • • • •

Each activity comes as a block of one to three Saturdays. If more than one, students will be committing to attend all weeks in the block – it is not possible to attend only one of the Saturdays. This year we have introduced ‘Service Saturdays’ which will enable students to be constructive and active participants in the local community. All students must sign up for at least one of these Service Saturdays. There are five throughout the year. There will be several activities running at the same time, for example, ‘Podcasting’ and ‘Upcycling’ happen on the same Saturdays, so you would have to choose to take part in either ‘Podcasting’ OR ‘Upcycling’ and not both. All students will have a minimum number of Saturdays that they have to attend. Students may not always get their first choices – some activities have limited student numbers. For this reason, students are encouraged to select more activities than needed. If an activity is oversubscribed, students will be randomly allocated for the available places. Students who are not selected will have another activity from their list is selected.

6

How to book:

1. Once students have chosen their clubs using this brochure, they will need to be booked electronically by a parent or guardian. Clicking on this link will take you to the Cobham Hall Schoolcloud webpage. Please fill out your Title, First Name and Surname details on the page. The student’s name and D.O.B must match our records in order to access the system.

2. Continue to Saturday Enrichment Programme 2022-23 to reveal the list of activities for the year.

3. Here you can add your 1st choice of activities (which can be altered later). This will bring up a list of all activities. If you click on ‘view info’ you will get a short description of each one. Placing your choice in order of preference will help us to make sure that you get the activities that you want. Students need to make sure that their choice does not clash with compulsory days.

4. Students can then add their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5thchoice activities. If they wish to change their preferences, they can click on the left-hand side and drag up or down. Do not forget to add your compulsory days. 5. Once you have made your choice in order of preference click on ‘Next’ to submit your choices, which will present you with a summary. Press ‘Confirm’ when you are ready. Please note that this is not a definite confirmation of the activities. Students and parents will be sent an email of their preferences.

7

6. Once you have received this confirmation email, you will be able to see the activities allocated for the year by clicking on the ‘My Bookings’ button. Here you can also ‘subscribe to Calendar’ which will allow parents/guardians and students to see events in their own personal calendar (iCal/Google/Office365). 7. Reminders will also be sent out on a regular basis to parents/guardians of the upcoming activities.

1. Find out the minimum number of Saturdays you need to attend (see below). 2. On the planning sheet (p.13), write down all compulsory Saturdays, remembering to include the ones that are compulsory for certain groups of students too – for example, if you are participating in the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award you will have to include these Saturdays as part of your minimum number. 3. Read through the information on each activity and decide which interest you. Remember, you must choose at least one Service Saturday. 4. Check that these your choices do not clash with your compulsory Saturdays. 5. Use the Cobham Hall Schoolcloud website to register your selection. A reminder that some activities have limited spaces so you may not always get your choices so you should select more that you need.

Remember, the minimum number of Saturdays will also include the compulsory Saturdays (see page 9 to 11). For example, Year 7 students have 10 Saturdays that they must attend as a minimum. On the next page you will see that they have five compulsory Saturdays. Therefore, a Year 7 student would need to choose at least five Saturdays (two blocks of two Saturdays and one Service Saturday) from the activities list.

Maximum Number of Students: When: Length:

12 Autumn Term One Saturday

Multi-award winning artist Jeanette Barnes specialist workshops have a lasting impact on students’ work, encouraging them to take risks, explore possibilities and be decisive. Combining contextual study and secondary sources the energy of the city is explored through drawing. The dynamic handling of materials encourage the development of an image from speculative beginnings towards a considered conclusion. Starting with an illustrated power point presentation, Jeanette Barnes explores her own and other artists work in response to the city. Then through instinctive and imaginative exercises she enables the students to develop a more personal visual language. They then go on to create their own cityscapes from a diverse range of photographs.
