Introduction to the Saturday Programme At Cobham Hall, we want all students to flourish and be well equipped to succeed in a modern, global society. We recognise the importance of wider opportunities in helping students to broaden their experiences and believe that our varied and exciting Saturday Programme will enable this. The Saturday Programme builds on our Personal Discovery Framework and this provides the opportunities to develop crucial life skills. This will help students develop the attributes of well-rounded individuals who are independent, resilient, responsible and engaged in a range of interests. The variety of activities on offer ensures that students’ curiosity and love of learning is encouraged; that the invaluable skills of teamwork, perseverance and confidence are developed, and that tolerance, respect, integrity and dignity are fostered. Within this booklet, you will find details of how the Saturday Programme will work for this coming academic year, and details of how to choose which Saturdays to attend. We do hope that parents and students enjoy the Programme on offer this year.

How it works Students will be able to choose a variety of different activities from the Saturday Programme schedule. Each Year Group will have a minimum number of Saturdays that they are expected to attend across the academic year. Some Saturdays will be compulsory, such as Open Mornings and Festival Day, and some will be compulsory for certain groups of students. However, the majority of Saturdays will be chosen by the students themselves. Saturday activities that are chosen by the student will be open to all Year Groups. This will enable students from across the School to get to know each other better and further enhance Cobham Hall’s community, family feeling. However, some activities will have a limited number of places to facilitate the enjoyability of the experience. On the next pages you will find: • An overview of all the optional activities by term. • A list, by Year Group, of all the Compulsory Saturdays – remember, some of these are compulsory for everyone and some are compulsory for certain groups of students. • More detailed information about each Saturday activity • A planning sheet – to enable students to write down their compulsory Saturdays and their chosen Saturdays • A link to the electronic online sign up sheet (this will only be available before the summer holidays). Things to note: • Each activity comes as a block of three Saturdays – students will be committing to attend all three weeks in the block – it is not possible to attend only one or two of the Saturdays. • There will be several activities running at the same time, for example, ‘MUN’ and ‘Out and About’ happen on the same Saturdays, so you would have to choose to take part in either ‘MUN’ OR ‘Out and About’ and not both. • All students will have a minimum number of Saturdays that they have to attend, but they are welcome to sign up to more. However, please do remember that this is a commitment – a student can not change their mind and not attend once they have signed up. • Students may not always get their first choices – some activities have limited student numbers. • If an activity is oversubscribed, students will be randomly allocated for the available places. Students who are not selected will then be notified and can choose another activity. 5

What to do now 1. Find out the minimum number of Saturdays you need to attend (see below). 2. On the planning sheet, write down all compulsory Saturdays, remembering to include the ones that are compulsory for certain groups of students too – for example, if you are participating in the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award you will have to include these Saturdays as part of your minimum number. 3. Read through the information on each activity and decide which ones interest you. 4. Check that these Saturdays do not clash with your compulsory Saturdays. 5. Add your chosen Saturdays to your planning sheet. 6. Complete the electronic form to sign up to your chosen activities. Remember, some activities have limited spaces so you may not always get your choices this time around!

Remember, the minimum number of Saturdays will also include the compulsory Saturdays (see page 7 to 9). For example, Year 7 students have 10 Saturdays that they must attend as a minimum. On the next page you will see that they have four compulsory Saturdays. Therefore, a Year 7 student would need to choose at least six Saturdays (two blocks of three Saturdays or three blocks of two Saturdays) from the activities list.
