01 ATOM delta 3D printer

I joined Atom 3D Printers (Layer One Co., Ltd.) in late 2012. As a start-up company, we only had three members in charge of everything. I took charge of almost every part of the design including graphic, logos, product and package, packaging, and parts management. Now, we have a team of fifteen, and have sold 2,500 DIY Kits in Taiwan alone. Atom is now the most popular 3D printer in Taiwan.

From Atom 1.0 to Atom 2.5, we took a long time to develop not only the mechanical parts but also the DIY experience. We provide a fine manual and continually perfected the assembly instructions to improve the experience from beginning to end.

The Atom 2.5 series is a culmination of years of design and engineering experience. Its all-metal structure provides unsurpassed stability for excellent print quality, and its assembly manual guides the user through

Since using 3D printing for prototyping, it had sped up our research and development. From the first generation we used 3D printed parts with aluminum extrusions with the newest generation using all metal parts. We improved lots of details and manufacturing methods so that we can proudly provide users with a great DIY experience. Even today 3D printing is still the best way for us to develop new products.

RepRap takes the form of a free desktop 3D printer capable of printing plastic objects. Since many parts of RepRap are made from plastic and RepRap prints those parts, RepRap self-replicates by making a kit of itself - a kit that anyone can assemble given time and materials. It also means that - if you’ve got a RepRap - you can print lots of useful stuff, and you can print another RepRap for a friend.

Proton and Neutron will be released in 2017. We will not only provide the print code, but also release all of the original 3D models in Onshape (full-cloud CAD) as well as the firmware. Onshape is a full-cloud 3D CAD system that everyone can use on a web browser to build a 3D model, no matter if you are a PC or Mac user. We will be open-minded so that every user can produce their own 3D

In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence, specifically impermanence, suffering and emptiness or absence of self-nature.

Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.

Lacquer Plan Piao Vase

Traditionally we use wood, ceramics and metal as body materials. Yet as the trends and eras shifted, so should body materials. In this peace of lacquer work, we use a fabric body as the base of the bodiless lacquer; consequently, the softness of fabric creates a contrast with the hardening caused by anointing. Through sawing the waterproof fabric body piece by piece, and anointing the bottom side, weight is successfully provided for the vase to stand.

Lacquer Plan Man Light

While learning how to make lacquer ware, it strikes me that the core value of lacquer comes from the nature of its handcraft. The key to lacquer’s rich tone of color is the repeated process of anointing and polishing. However, to emphasize the character of handcrafting, we expect that the meticulous, glossy feature with its raw, original texture are demonstrated simultaneously on this piece of work, aiming to illustrate the original quality of lacquer as well as the polished luster. Additionally, by allowing this piece of work to be “incompletely” finished during the manufacturing phase, and disclosing the simple process of industrialization, we hope to make industrial design friendlier for the general public to appreciate.

11 Sexual Pleasure Ritual pleasure toy & sex studies “For so many women not only do they not feel that good when they see their vagina up close in a mirror, but they also have this shame that they should think it's beautiful and amazing … and that story gets

electric blanket

Women’s sexuality remains mystified and downplayed in general. Women’s sexual pleasure has hidden in the shadows for too long. It’s time to get it all out in the open. How can I do something that makes people can feel pleasure but not guilty about enjoying themselves in their own ways? How can we make this world more open to different people in varieties of ways?

For this project, it includes 3 parts of research: 1. Clay Workshop as a form-giving reference; 2. Research of Sexual Stimulation ; 3. Inflatable Sex Toy It turned into a sexual pleasure ritual for women. Including the mirror that you need to understand yourself and body. Second, I wanted to create a comfortable environment that women can relax and feel the different stimulation. In the end, turn it on and enjoy the solo-sex pleasure.

1. Workshop as a therapy Workshop can be as a therapy for creating better relationship. It also can be a way to know each other the part that you never know. Thought the workshop can understand who tried to control more. It can show the power structure between each other. Who can make the decision who will use the sex toy? I think it might be also good for couple to create sex toys together.

2. Formgiving in Shapes Though the workshop, I found out some shapes in common for creating some design in pleasant, love and sexy shape. And also learned by hand making. I chose one of the most interesting shape for me and tried to create a working prototype.

Research - How the body and mind shape our sex lives or pleasure?

It should be sexual stimulation that leads to, enhances and maintains sexual arousal, and may lead to orgasm. Sexual stimulation includes physical sexual stimulation, alternative routes and mental stimulation. Physical sexual stimulation usually consists of touching the genitals or other erogenous zones. There are also many areas through which a person can be sexually stimulated, other than the genitals. The human sexual response is a dynamic combination of cognitive, emotional, and physiological processes. The Clay Workshop

Sexual arousal may also be mediated through alternative routes such as visual, olfactory and auditory means.

The alternative intimacy should include pleasant, love and sexy feeling. I invited some people to join my workshop

experiment (Huh, J.; Park, K.; Hwang, I. S.; Jung, S. I.; Kim, H. J.; Chung, T. W.; Jeong, G. W. , 2008) ,

and asked them to create the shape for those feeling. I divided my workshop into two groups by join as a couple

Inflatable Sex Toy

After the clay workshop and the research. I want to create a sex toy which can be inflatable and reshapable but also a vibrator.

I found out a special use for soft robot: Spatial Flux, which is designed by MIT Media Lab’s City Science group. They explored new forms of rapid inflatable prototyping. I thought it should be applied to sex toy industry as well with the changeable shape. In this way, it can fit with different bodies and needs. I took it as my starting point as a functional way to create a new type of sex toys.

I start to use the mold techniques that I have to shape different hollow silicone forms. In the beginning, I only tried some simple geometry shapes, like cylinder and cuboid. I tested different simple shapes, thickness, and hardness to figure out how it can be expanded in a good way. I tried different tools to inflate the silicone

toy. Also, I used the cell phone's motor to provide vibration. I put motors at the spot that can provide the best physical stimulation.

The Ritual

I want to create a sexual pleasure ritual for women, regardless age, sexuality and sexual preferences. First of all, you need to face to yourself. The lack of knowledge about their body is extremely worrying. Therefore, I create a mirror in a proper shape that makes people can easier look at the vagina. Next, you should create a vibe that makes you feel relax and warm. Use scent, music and also dive into your fantasy. Hence, I suggest using an electric blanket to warm you up. Then, you finally can switch on the sex toy. It like a pleasure soft robot that you can control the size and the vibration.

Workshop as a Method - Probes

Probes and prompts are integral to successful interviews. Probes help motivate informants, facilitate the flow of an interview, and elicit information, but not necessarily in the form of a question. The goal is not to learn about the object or place but instead to learn about the informant through the object or place. In essence, the “material probe” triggers a response or memory and can be used in specific and or general ways. According to my intention of sex education and giving materi-

participant has it as a probe and executes the workshop individually. They will follow the instruction/manual to explore themselves step by step (5 sections) through the probes.

I decided to have five steps based on the researches that I did. I realized that we already have a lot of sex toys in our market. We might be able to buy sex toys but (1) Do you really know what you want? (2) Do we even have the words to describe body parts? (3) Do we know what makes us feel good and get an orgasm? Hence, the first step that I want to

Conclusion of probes - Modular Sex Toy Concept

The shape for the core with control board and battery is half torus and both ends with the connectors that can attach different modules on it. According to the materials, patterns and vibration patterns that I designed, they can be applied into different modules. The modules are in the cylinder, balls, and half torus shape and also could be in different materials like wool, wood, tin, glass, and silicone.

The business model for future developments

I think the tool kits/ probes is a good way that not just explore the body in a haptic way. Also, it can be a way to collect the data from the participants and design the customized sex toy for them. For the ritual part which includes the smell, music, and fantasy. I would like to collaborate with the perfume and music producer/ Spotify which can create different content for the user to choose. Then it can provide more choice for people to find the perfect smell which can arouse their sexual stimulation (Figure 25). The process will be like this (Figure 26):

Participant.134340 (Figure 23) likes the silicone as the material the most and she also doesn’t need to have penetration during the masturbation but the motor need to be more powerful. Hence, I designed the cactus texture on the sex toy for her. Participant. C.L.M (Figure 24) likes the heaviness of tin as the material the most. She used the material probes and the vibrate pattern at the same time. Hence, I designed the torus core in metal and both end with ball and stick on the sex toy for her.
