COASTAL WALKS There’s a coastal walk for everyone along our beautiful Coffs Coast with easy strolls, full-day walks and challenging multi-day hikes.
4
The Solitary Islands Coastal Walk is a string of golden beaches, rocky headlands and lush rainforest tracks along the Coffs Coast. This 60km walking trail starts from Sawtell, next to Bongil Bongil National Park in the south, and continues through Coffs Coast Regional Parks including Moonee Beach Nature Reserve and Muttonbird
Island Nature Reserve, before winding up at the Yuraygir National Park near Red Rock. If you’re feeling energetic, book some accommodation, pack your backpack full of supplies and do the whole walk over four days. Make sure you include birdwatching binoculars to spot little terns and white bellied eagles which are often seen along the shores. There are plenty of great vantage points to spot whales during their winter migration or watch dolphins surfing the waves. You can also stroll along the coastal walk in shorter sections and enjoy swimming, surfing or fishing. A must-see section of the walk, from Sapphire Beach to Emerald Beach, passes through the Moonee Beach Nature Reserve and the famous ‘Look At Me Now Headland’. This headland is an important local Aboriginal site affording amazing views of the Solitary Islands. You’ll often encounter a large mob of eastern grey kangaroos lazing in the sun. Further north the Woolgoolga beach takes you to Woolgoolga Lake which is the perfect lagoon for kayaking, fishing and swimming. You’ll find signage explaining history and culture along the walk. Follow the light house.
Visit the Solitary Islands Marine Park Encompassing New South Wales’ most diverse island group and home to a unique abundance of marine life, the Solitary Islands Marine Park offers world class activities and experiences for the whole family!

W HAL E WATCH I NG The Coffs Coast offers a wide selection of stunning elevated vantage points ideal for watching whales. The area boasts a myriad of whale watching platforms; from coastal headlands to interactive boat cruises. For six months from May to October, migrating Humpback whales frequently put on spectacular displays as they frolic off the coast on their journey between Antarctica and North Queensland. Keeneyed watchers may be lucky enough to glimpse rarer species including Southern Right, Sperm and Minke whales. Pack your binoculars and head out to one of our gorgeous viewing locations to experience these majestic creatures as they display a range of impressive surfacing behaviours; from slapping their fins and tails, to spy-hopping and breaching. Breaching usually begins with two or three beats of the tail, before the humpback whale leaps out of the water, rolls in the air with its huge pectoral fins outstretched like wings and finally crashing back into the ocean with an incredible splash. 101 RE A SONS TO X X X X
