The Students’ Association As a student of City of Glasgow College you automatically become a member of the Students’ Association (CitySA). The Students’ Association is here to represent your views to the college. Being a member of the Students’ Association gives you the opportunity to influence the way it operates and to voice your opinion on all aspects of College life. You also get automatic membership to the National Union of Students (NUS) who represent students views nationally to the government.

What is being a Class Rep all about? As a Class Representative you will act as the link between the College, CitySA and the students in your class. You will be responsible for communication, listening and talking to students in your class, representing their opinions and views to the College staff and passing information back to your class mates and CitySA. Your work as a Class Rep starts the moment you are elected and finishes before the summer break.

• To stay in regular communication with your lecturers if you or your class have ideas or suggestions related to your course. • To report any arising difficulties to your course’s Curriculum Leader as soon as possible.

Class Rep meetings: Class Rep meetings take place once per block and enable students to chat and voice student opinion. These meetings give students the opportunity to discuss and resolve issues and to communicate in a constructive way. Staff and guest speakers may be invited to attend meetings to deliver inspiring talks or to provide information on a certain topic.

Other things to do: • To participate in activities, workshops and various events organised for students and Class Reps during the term. • To communicate actions agreed at meetings back to your class mates.

Class Rep training:

• To be proactive in representing students in your class.

All Class Reps must take part in an initial training session which lasts around 2.5 hours. The training session is delivered by former Class Reps so is really beneficial and fun. Further training opportunities and workshops to boost your skills will be offered throughout the year.

• The opportunity to make a significant positive difference to the experience of students in your Faculty.

What is expected of Class Reps? • To get regular feedback from students in your class so you can represent them effectively at meetings or forums. • To make yourself known to students in your class so that they communicate with you on course related issues.

What will you get in return?

• You will improve your communication and organisational skills. • Certificates for training attended. • Being a Class Rep will brighten up your CV and attract future employers! • Loads of support and help from CitySA to ensure you are making the best of your role!
