In order to have a strong and active Students’ Association we need to have Class Representatives to be the voice of their fellow class mates. The earlier we are able solve problems for students the better. Providing both the correct opportunity and environment for feedback is essential in establishing trust, healthy working relationships and pro-active communication. Students must feel empowered to feedback about all aspects of their student experience and have confidence to raise issues that need resolved. Students will often be able to identify problems and solutions that staff may not be aware of. Cultivating positive working relationships and communication will develop better student retention, develop a relaxed environment with a strong work ethic and enable the Students’ Association and Engagement Team to illustrate the views of our diverse student body.
The role of Class Reps Class Reps are responsible for communicating what their class views are about their course, the Students’ Association and the college as a whole. They will represent these views at Class Rep Meetings, Student Representative Council meetings and College Forums. Class Reps can assist in setting the Agenda at meetings by forwarding issues to the Student President Ian Gilmour and Vice President Ruta Simonyte (Social and Activities). Class Reps who are pro-actively engaged in a representation structure will enable a vital cross college communication network. These lines of communication are even more important with the size and scale of the new college and particularly when students are not in college for the full working week.

Elections will take place in September 2015. The student with the most votes will be elected as the Class Representative for the year. The Student with the second most votes will be elected as the Deputy Class Representative. To do this, ask your students to write the name of their preferred Class Rep on a piece of paper and count the votes. Once counted, lecturers just need to navigate to the course period and then go to the ‘List Students’ link, to record who the rep and deputy rep are.
Class Rep Meetings Class Rep meetings will take place approximately every 6 weeks and will enable students views and issues to be voiced in a constructive way. The Engagement Team will assist with the running of meetings, collating information and chairing if necessary.
