ISHCMC is a nondenominational, co-educational and multi-cultural international school with over 47 nationalities represented. Curriculum The high school curriculum (Grades 9 to 12) is guided by the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. All students in Grades 11 and 12 take IB courses. In addition to their six DP courses, students must complete Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) commitments in Grades 11 and 12, coursework in Theory of Knowledge, and an Extended Essay (for IB Diploma candidates). ISHCMC students primarily attend universities in North America, The United Kingdom, Asia and Australia; courses are college-preparatory in nature. Grading ISHCMC grades on the IB 1-7 scale and does not calculate GPAs for our students. In cases of transfer students, prior courses at other schools are considered in determining passing credits towards graduation only. IB DIPLOMA Students who pursue the IB Diploma along with an ISHCMC Diploma, must fulfill the following requirements: • Successful completion of TOK (Theory of Knowledge), a 4000-word Extended Essay, and CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service). • Completion of 3 Higher Level (HL) courses and 3 Standard Level (SL) courses and the achievement of a score of at least 24 points overall. Each course is worth a possible 7 points; points are accumulated based on internal assessments completed throughout the two years of study, as well as final IB examinations. IB DP THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE Theory of Knowledge is an epistemological course that trains students to question the knowledge they acquire in all of their IB subjects. Requirements: • The application of these skills to real-life situations in a comprehensive presentation (all ISHCMC students). • A written demonstration of their understanding of the nature of knowledge and knowledge issues in a 1200-1600 word externally assessed essay in response to an IBO prompt. (IB Diploma candidates only). Theory of Knowledge teaches students to appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of different ways of knowing, to be critical and questioning and to support arguments with carefully considered evidence from their own experiences. SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY CONNECTION
The high school has a rich and varied extracurricular programme. High school students are also given the opportunity to represent the school in various athletic and academic events organized by the Mekong River International School Association (MRISA). These events provide opportunities to travel to other countries to engage in the activities of their choice. Above all, the after-school activities programme seeks to positively unite students, coaches and teachers from a variety of international backgrounds through shared experiences.
In 2012, ISHCMC started an alliance with Project Advance at Syracuse University. An ISHCMC staff member, trained at Syracuse and given the status of a Syracuse Adjunct Instructor, teaches advanced mathematics courses to students who have already completed our IB Higher Level Mathematics curriculum. Successful students will earn up to 8 university credits in advanced calculus.

IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME
Community service is fundamental to ISHCMC’s ethos and an integral part of the curriculum in all three sections of the school.
The MYP is the ISHCMC curriculum in Grades 6-10. Students are expected to follow courses in eight subject areas.
• 20+ school-wide service projects are brought together under the umbrella of GIN (Global Issues Network)
• ISHCMC opts to have its MYP grades externally moderated to ensure international standardisation, and consistently scores above the world average.
• All are student initiated and student led; each subcommittee of Education, Environment, Empowerment and Health has a student committee leader.
• Students in Grades 9 and 10 are required to be actively involved in Community and Service and work with local NGOs, charities and orphanages.
• Middle and high school students are required to demonstrate a long-term commitment to at least one project per year, continually reflect upon their personal development and provide evidence of having produced the prescribed outcomes. Students are encouraged to become caring and compassionate global citizens through participation, and are also challenged to stand for these coveted leadership positions. 3/4
• The Personal Project, the culmination of the MYP studies, is wholly student-led, completed on a topic of student interest and developed over the course of six months. The student’s personal project journal, the final product and a reflective essay are assessed and externally moderated.
