INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL HO CHI MINH CITY

Alumni News

V O LU M E 1 , I SS U E 1 JAN 2014

It is our pleasure to introduce to you the ISHCMC Alumni Association and to welcome you to the first edition of Alumni News. The purpose of the association is to keep our alumni connected to ISHCMC through regular correspondence and events. All former students and staff are members of the alumni association, regardless of the number of years spent at ISHCMC.

Happy Birthday ISHCMC! December 1st, 2013 marked the 20th Anniversary of the International School Ho Chi Minh City. Much has changed since the school first opened its doors on Nam Ky Khoi Nhgia Street in the heart of the city. The school currently accepts

students from EE2 thru Grade 12 and is located in the quiet streets of District 2. Current staff and students celebrated the birthday on December 2nd with cake and stuffed rhino mascots for everyone. Long serving teachers and staff were hon-

oured and 20 large balloons were released into the sky. The festivities haven’t ended yet; all ISHCMC alumni are invited to join in The Great Gatsby Event on March 1st, 2014. Please see page 4 for additional details.

Please contact us to update your information and to submit your stories and photos and milestones to be included in upcoming issues. We make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information printed in this newsletter. If an error has occurred please accept our apologies and contact the Alumni Office via email at alumni@ishcmc.edu.vn. If you are planning a visit on campus, please make sure to stop by the Alumni Office at the Admissions building!

Michael Nguyen Class of 2000 Michael has the distinction of being a member of ISHCMC’s first graduating class. After leaving ISHCMC, Mike attended the University of California, Irvine and obtained a degree in Social Ecology. Mike has very fond memories of his 3 years spent at ISHCMC including the field trips to Dalat, Ha Long Bay and Phan Thiet. He still remains

in touch with many of his fellow alumni. Currently Mike is managing a corporate restaurant called Islands Fine Burgers and Drinks. He has just moved back to California from Hawaii for the second time. Mike says that his education at ISHCMC definitely prepared him for college/ university back in the United States. Many of his univer-

sity peers struggled with adapting to increased pressures but he felt well prepared as he was exposed to the IB programme. His words of advice for our newest Alumni are “Know what you want and have passion. When we lose passion, it is harder to want to be successful.”

I N S ID E T H I S I S S U E : Happy Birthday ISHCMC!
