Dear Parents, As you will be able to see in this newsletter, there have been a multitude of learning opportunities throughout the school whether it be the exhibition, student-led conferencing, art, or in our lunch hall. It was nice to have a calmer week at school after the energy and excitement of SLC and The Exhibition. Collecting Students After School There have been a number of students who have not been collected promptly after school. Please ensure that your child is collected promptly at the end of the day as supervision continues for only 10 minutes after the end of the school day. PTA Coffee Evening Our regularly-scheduled coffee morning for parents will not take place in the morning; instead, we have a guest speaker who will present in the evening on internet safety. This will be a very informative and interesting session that will introduce parents to some of the issues in schools and at home. Please attend if you can as the workshop will provide information for all parents regardless of their child’s age. Please remember that next week is a short one as we only have school on Monday and Tuesday. Have a wonderful weekend hope to see you at the Trash and Treasure Sale.

The Reunification Holiday The Reunification Holiday is when every Vietnamese person celebrates for being together as one country. Ms. Kim, the grade 5 teaching assistant said this is the day, “That the country became one.” Before, there was a war between N. Vietnam and S. Vietnam. The Reunification Holiday is on April 30th and that’s when the war stopped. Vietnamese reunification day involves celebrations and entertainment. People come together on this holiday and don’t go shopping. Ms. Phung said she will go to the beach with her friend. I also asked Ms. Phung “why are there Vietnamese flags everywhere for Reunification day?” she said, “Because it’s a national day and it’s famous.” This holiday brings Vietnamese people together. I hope you have a good Reunification day!

SLC Good job to all the students for leading the SLC. Now finally the parents know what the students are doing at ISHCMC. It was last Thursday. It is a once in a year experience. Every student in the school is leading their parents on what they have learned, for the whole entire year. Everybody is brave to do this with no teacher helping you. I know the people that went with you and your teachers are so proud of you. This also helps your speaking skills because some people don’t speak so much at class, but when you do your student led conferences you have to speak to your parents, so good job with speaking. Lots of people went to the specialist. Good job everybody!!!

The Grade 5 PYP Exhibition: IT COMES TO A MARVELOUS END The exhibition was successfully done by the students. Every grade 5 student happily presented to the parents. The parents looked pretty satisfied with how the students did their presentation. The students at the start did feel a little nervous, but they also felt really relieved after the exhibition was over. At the exhibition, the first thing that happened was that Mr. Leslie gave a speech and then Mrs. Kitto came and gave a speech. When the exhibition started, the MC came and started the whole exhibition.

The exhibition was held in the MPR. The kids felt really proud of their work that they had done. The other day there were other grades coming to the exhibition. The lower primary kids liked the exhibition a lot. After that day there were other schools came in and they looked really interested. The grade 5s also got a lot breaks because they did seem really tired. We did this exhibition to show what we have learned in the past. By Aditya D and Aditya K

There are many projects the KG classes have worked on to improve their sounds, speaking, spelling, writing and other educational necessities as well as to enjoy them and have fun! In KGA, they have an alphabet quilt, with pictures of animals and objects that start with the letter, so they can improve their way of sounding things out. Plus, if the students forget how to pronounce a letter, they can look at the quilt. KGA also did a self-portrait on the first week of school to see how well they can illustrate themselves. Miss Cameron thought at the end of the year, they will draw another self-portrait and compare and contrast to the one they did before to see how well they are at illustrating.

KG Kid Art Goes Viral! In art class, KG read My Granny Went to Market by Stella Blackstone. They discussed that Granny traveled by a magic carpet covered with patterns. They then discussed how something can be made into a pattern, for example numbers, drawings and shapes. They chose colored paper to create their carpets

and designed their own pretty patterns.

KGC learnt facts about marine animals for example how long can a Moray Eel grow up to and Porcupine Fish blow up their spikes by swallowing water.

Trash Becomes Treasure to Pigs! Emily and Celie have started a protest against leaving trash. Doing graphs of how well classes cleanup. It has hit the school like a tornado. Getting people to scrape their plates and clean up better. They are getting us new trash bins to organize the trash to‌ FEED THE PIGS!!!!
