Principally Speaking
Dear Saigon Pearl Families,
Kính thưa quý Phụ huynh Saigon Pearl,
I hope you had an enjoyable holiday season and are looking forward to new memories to be made in 2015! The first semester was a fun and exciting time for International Saigon Pearl—Moon Festival, Halloween celebration, Music and Art Extravaganza and Sports Day were just a few of the great activities hosted by the school. Our students have also been hard at work in the area of academics, which will be supported by a mid-year MAP assessment to provide teachers with academic data to support academic planning for the second semester. We are also initiating a new semester report card system, which will provide parents more detailed information regarding academic performance in the areas of reading and math. The report card will be sent home with students on Friday the 23rd by hardcopy. I will be giving an overview of the new report card during our monthly coffee hour on Thursday 22nd in January at 8:30 am.
Tôi hy vọng gia đình đã trải qua kỳ nghỉ thú vị và chúng ta hướng đến những ký ức mới sẽ thực hiện trong năm 2015! Học kỳ một là khoảng thời gian vui vẻ và thú vị tại trường với chương trình Tết Trung Thu, Lễ Hội Halloween, Âm nhạc và triển lãm nghệ thuật cùng với Ngày Hội thể thao là những hoạt động được nhà trường tổ chức. Các em học sinh cũng đã học tập hết mình để trải qua kỳ thi đánh giá giữa năm MAP với các dữ liệu giúp giáo viên đánh giá và đề ra kế hoạch học tập cho các em trong học kỳ 2. Nhà trường cũng sẽ áp dụng hệ thống phiếu liên lạc mới để cập nhật đến phụ huynh chi tiết quá trình học tập của các em học sinh trong lĩnh vực đọc và toán. Phiếu liên lạc sẽ được gửi cho học sinh vào ngày thứ Sáu 23/1. Tôi sẽ giới thiệu tổng quan về phiếu liên lạc này vào buổi họp phụ huynh hàng tháng vào ngày thứ Năm, 22/01 lúc 8:30 sáng.

* Regarding the February TET break please note that the government has also declared a day off for government businesses in lieu of the Saturday 21. Therefore Monday 23 Feb will be a holiday and school will with resume on Tuesday 24 Feb.
Ms. Stephanie Inquiry-Based Learning in Ms. Stephanie’s Second Grade Class This month, we are excited to be starting a new social studies unit with the inquiry approach. Inquiry-based learning means that students are given the opportunity to ask their own questions and think critically about what they know, use what they already know to make sense of new information, and connect personally to what they are learning. This not only enhances student engagement, but also student learning. Our Neighborhood unit has started off very well. We have begun by creating a map of our neighborhood. To do this, students had to discuss what they needed in their neighborhood (a park, a pool, an arcade, streetlights, and roads to name a few). They then worked together to figure out where each of these should be located and put them together on a map. During the rest of this month, we will be creating characters, building background stories for these characters, and deciding how to react to problems that will arise. As our unit continues, please challenge our class to any questions you may have regarding communities or how they can fairly make decisions and feel free to pop in and take a look at our map!

Ngày hội thể thao khối mầm non (Lớp Mầm- lớp Lá) Các chú chim non Sunbird đã bùng nổ vượt qua 5 trạm thử thách. Các em đã chơi các trò chơi tổng hợp đối kháng và không đối kháng. Các chú chim Sunbird đang học, đang lớn đã làm rất tốt!
Sports day ECE (Nursery – Kindergarten) Our young sunbirds had a blast making their way through 5 stations. Playing a mix of competitive and non-competitive games. Growing and learning our sunbirds did a great job!

Cảm giác thật bùng nổ khi xem các đội cùng làm việc với nhau để hoàn thành mục tiêu. Các trò chơi mới với những thách thức mới để các đội vượt qua. Đúng là một ngày tuyệt vời!
