DIY REUSABLE HANUKKAH GIFT BAGS

Instead of wrapping presents for my two kids for each of the holiday’s eight nights, I personalize a few drawstring bags with stencils and fabric paint. I get to craft, and it’s a landfill saver.

GIVE TINSEL RIBBON A TRY

7

Instead of using the usual ribbon for a gift’s finishing touch, trade it for tinsel ribbon (a.k.a. tinsel garland and tinsel trim). We love this fashionista that comes wrapped in 10 yards of white tinsel ribbon. Another idea: Use tinsel ribbon to spell out someone’s name on a present, attached with hot glue. Pair white, silver, or gold tinsel with bright blue or solid red gift wrap.

Doubles as an ornament when she’s not wrapped in ribbon.

TUCK PRESENTS

I’ve given these to friends and teachers, and they’re always a hit. I’ll pick up inexpensive metal lanterns, cut wrapping paper into pieces slightly larger than the glass panes, and stick them inside the lantern using glue dots. Then I put in some shredded paper or tissue paper, drop in the gifts, and attach tags. It’s two presents in one!

CREATE GIFT BUZZ WITH A BAR CART Fondant-covered cakes shaped like gifts and fancy hot chocolate on the top tier plus presents and cookies for Santa below are basically Christmas Eve on a cart. GLITZ UP TAPE Press metallic gold star table confetti onto the sticky side of transparent tape. A regular-size roll works fine, but you’ll get more bang for your bling with clear packing tape.

11 DESIGN YOUR OWN PAPER

Crafts paint splattered onto white butcher paper is my holiday go-to—it’s fun to make and fun to look at. I hold a flat artist brush in one hand and flick the bristles with my other hand. Just don’t forget to cover your workspace first!
