CHI OMEGA With deepest sorrow we dedicate this page to the memory of these seniors, who all took wicked morts: Linda Buchheim, who breathed her last when cru hed under the weight of her diamond; Diane Leach, who surrendered to a rampant I BM computer; Sue Freihofer, snuffed out when trampled by a runaway Mustang; Annie MacMichael head c heerleader, who choked to death on mustard and relish; Les Sutherland who expired after 227 consecutive rounds of tennis; Pam Harris, who died by her own hand when someone stole her brides' maga足 zines; Carol Rodgers, who died of exhaustion working for the Good; Barbie Wise, who succumbed trying to singlehandedly rai e our academic aver足 age; Janna Vaughan, who took her last gasp when overcome by peroxide fumes; Meg Fallon, senior class bard, who perished from writers' cramp and acute frustration; Lynnie Seidenstuecker, cancelled out suddenly by a self-inflicted gavel-gash; and Marcia Norling, who died a violent death when the pyramid collapsed.

1965-66 was a big year for Alpha Delta Phi. Pledging was an overwhelming success, netting a total of eleven pledges. They were, no doubt lured by the fraternity's outstanding academic achievements-fir t place for the last four semes ters-the warm personalitie of the brothers and the promise of a house being built in two years. Would you believe three years? In sports, the football team distinguished itself by winning every game it didn't lose or tie. The basketball team came up with a new idea. It printed up programs so spectators could tell whose side our players were really on. The hockey team broke a11 previous scoring records combined in the entire history of this chapter's existence by scoring two goal . All seriousness aside, however, the brothers really came alive on the squash team. We crushed all opposition due in no small part to our acquisition of a steam-roller. "But what is the personality of the house?" you ask. This can be inferred from a perusal of the more salient characteristics of our typically representative senior class. There's Bob, the business major, who's going out into the world to try to sell hair brushes to bald eagles, Bill, the science major, who invented a clock that's correct twice a day, Jerry, the philosophy major, who's trying to figure out why his neighbors live next door to him, Steve, who's house treasurer because his ballpoint pen has constipation, Phil, who always walks around with a glass in each hand so that no one will pick on him (everybody knows that you don't hit a man with glasses) and Ed, the chemistry major, who insists that the phlogiston theory is correct. This is the stuff that makes us what we are!

For the class of '66, the war has been a long one, but one well fought. The soldiers of DKE are modest heroes, and as they pass by we ee them undaunted, u niformed, decorated, and carrying the lion flag overhead. Yes we remember the battle of J ohnson Hall back in '62. Night after night the enemy attacked in butterfly, elephant and flying mouse formations, yet the fearless DKEs repulsed these with the daring commando tactics of the Nude and Midnight Raiders. J ust look at them proudly marching by.Why th ere's tall, Gawking D. whose generous philanthropy enabled the Waterville Eye Bank to get back on its feet. And there is General H. Mace heroically wearing the sign of the winged un lamp. Beside him lumbers the fearsome Eeni-J aw carrying a six hundred pound horse on h is back while supporting the valiant Colonel Hydrant who was wounded in the gall bladder. The rigours of battle seem to have added pounds to the heroic Portly Stu who carries a belt in his knapsack for sentimental reasons. And then there' the lordly Huck who destroyed a regiment with nothing more than a pan and broom while yelling defiantly, "How about a break!" Over there marches the honorable Sergeant Winston who nearly succumbed at Quinby's Ridge only to recover and defeat the enemy at the battle of I vory Snow. Behind him hobbles the dangerous Lunchbox who, though he had two broken legs and a sprained ankle, managed to repulse the foe with poison gas. Then there's the terrible Grubby J im who, disguised as a. card player, single handedly captured a Ron Como factory. Marching in perfect unison comes the bold Major Vint cam ouflaged as an unassuming frog and yelling h is war cry "Hey, Hey, Hey." And finally, taking up the rear, marches the fabulous S. Back who, disguised as a forest, saved the life of the daring but foolhardy Flash who tried to take the Hathaway Shirt Co. with nothing more than an eye patch. Long may they live! Mine eyes behold that never have so few dared to trample where so many vintage grapes are stored. Long live Xi! 98

As the brothers of Xi trudged back to Mayflower Hill in September, we were told that KDR was now Butler Hall for the next few month . Social probation was a gift as far a rushing was concerned; we received an excellent pledge class. The new house till remained a dream, though now the only question is where to put us so we can do the least damage. We're still favorites over at Eustis, and the Judiciary is beginning to be better acquainted with our pledge class. Drinking has never been a house problem, and it's less so this year as everyone is joining in. The house football team won the l.F.L. and the Colby Ca t-Offs are now the Chez Paree Gladiators. Our house lumberjacks won the Woodsman meet for the third consecutive year with the help of two additions from the backwoods of Minnesota. Fritz Green returned after four years in the Navy to brighten our lives, and of course Reeves was back attempting to graduate once again.Gruber's week-long fast to earn money to buy food, and the horror show Revett threw after his first beer are among the house highlights. Some of the things we'll miss will be: seeing Eckel after a senior cocktail party; J.3..udnick's stories in the lounge; Schmalz's grubbiness. Donahue dedicated his senior year to successfully aggravating Sandak and his allergies . . . and Kueffner is still trying to electrocute the brothers. All in all it was another academically successful, cautious year in the Quad.

This school year wa a 'different" one for the member of Phi Delta Theta. We started off with a brand new '¡Ma" who hailed from Reno, Nevada. A tremendous treat-the returning fleet-greeted us in September. 'Twas Furbish & Bryan & Poirk & Waddly (the 5-year man) ...remember? "Adolph" Greene was in the slot of President to start off. He got us a waiver, a real life saver, the gun was shot ... we were off. We rounded the first turn of the track with a pledge class of good potential. Woody & Pam took over the lead with an act that was quite sensational. Debby would run, then switch a bit, on the cour e of which she was running. Winston came from behind the bunch and sprung forth with his cunning. They hit the far turn neck & neck in a battle which spared no bones. The straight and the crooked clashed in their paths, the winner not yet known. Rip Van Hoolie joined right in after his evening nap. Followed by Fish who wobbled a bit, taking huge amounts of gaff. Lehoh-d roared in, S.Bress sinned and Bridget kept on charming. A motley group ran all at once-the mixture quite alarming! Phi parties of "Horrendos ' fame rounded our social life well. But, what went on behind the bar not a soul could tell. We'll finish our year with lots of good "cheer" and wish the Seniors well. We've had some great times and rough ones, too. No one's perfect. What the hell!

Pillars virile, help remind us How it i we're made of spice So we'll follow path of men And less the paths of mice.

With apple and footballs we greet our friends Tho e of the house across the way. Cur es fly, and blood runs freely On those days of fun and play.

Dear brothers in our hands we hold The future of this nation Remember that with this alone Can we throw off temptation.

Scuffing crumpling, mashing Static, the butterftie of Two hundred bellies, helved, Made warm with chanting, Swaying, harkening to A sound, foreign and Unheard as a dog's call whistle, M eshed, a throng of color Decorating endless walls. Silence now A bounding body Moves the bench And me with it To the beat Of a rhythmic ball. Then A scream-whistle-shout And the throng stands Seeming to press me in And push me up with them Becoming a mass of motion, Swishing and relieved too soon. I look to the floor Where figures seem So separate distinguished Fragile possessed by Pounding blood and Inner emotion and The cycle begins again.
