ECOTONE DESIGN
Residing at the University Field Station ٴLawrence, KS KU Summer 2012 ٴ4 week project For the University of Kansas Field Station, nature is not a place merely to visit, it is a place to live. As part of a group project three residences were designed to be eco-friendly, relate to the field station, follow universal design principles, and promote aging-in-place.

NATIVE SHADING
Residential Facade Concept ٴSalt River Bay, St. Croix KU Spring 2012 ٴ2 week project I developed the Native Shading facade using inspiratio both mangroves and the vernacular porticos local to St Using an organic arching form and creating depth prot interior of the building from direct sunlight while still a for views out. As part of the project, I explored bent w lamination and connections to the concrete. Building a scale model allowed me to realize the versatility of woo the craftsmanship involved in bending wood.

RECLAIMING WATER
Kansas River Wastewater ٴTopeka, KS KSU Fall 2007 ٴ3 week project
This project addresses the negative effects on the ecology of the Kansas River at Topeka Kansas due to pollutants flowing from the Oakland Wastewater Treatment Plant. The water from the plant will be cleansed, purified, and cooled through a series of secondary treatment wetlands, leading to a more healthy river. These wetlands will also provide important recreational and educational opportunities such as bird watching, hiking, class field trips, and bike rides.

Reversing Decay
Masters Report-18th&Vine Redevelopment ٴKansas City, MO KSU Spring 2009 ٴ15 week project http://hdl.handle.net/2097/1444
ABSTRACT Redevelopment of the 18th and Vine neighborhood has long been a goal of community leaders in Kansas City. Through the redevelopment there is an opportunity to restore pride to an impoverished area once considered the center of black life in the city. During segregation the area around 18th and Vine was famous for its baseball, jazz, and nightlife. However, the area slowly fell into decay. Since the 1980s there has been a renewed focus on the redevelopment of the area with major additions including: museums, music clubs, restaurants, and space for retail. Difficulty in finding tenants for the new retail space has lead to an uncertainty about how to proceed with the development. Understanding the failure to attract retail space to the area is a potential guide for future successful development around 18th and Vine. Lessons learned from African American community development include the need to define the community accurately (Dorius 2009), utilize community organizations (Dorius 2009), encourage residential empowerment (Dorius 2009), create economic self-sufficiency (Moore 2005, Katz 2004), encourage middle class black migration (Sampson 2009), and limit the negative effects of gentrification (Kirkland 2008). These lessons along with information gained in the studies of Overtown in Miami, Florida and Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee were applied to the information about 18th and Vine identifying issues associated with redevelopment of the community. New design strategies and guidelines were developed utilizing the understanding of why the area around 18th and Vine decayed and why new development has thus far failed. A combination of socio-economic and physical strategies is needed to make more informed decisions about future development. The physical strategies are proposed as alternative frameworks of focusing on the core, expanding to the south, and expanding to the west.

Construction Development Experience and Skills ‍ ٴ‏MO, KS
During my work experience, internships, and schooling I have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to complete a project. I have experience and skills in construction documentation, site analysis, planting and hardscape design, drainage design, irrigation, and managing labor on both large scale and residential projects. My time at Exterior Decorators, American Gardenscapes, Burns and McDonnell, and Bowman Bowman Novic allowed me to gain a wide range of experience from residential design, business management, commercial construction, estimating, and marketing.

HAND AND PHOTO
Compiled Works from 2004-2012 ٴKS, MO, Italy The development of hand graphics has always been important to me. Throughout my student and professional career I have learned to lean heavily on these skills especially during the initial design phases. The ability for quick analysis and interpretation of space and ideas is a skill I take pride in. I have confidence in my abilities with different rendering techniques as well as photography.
