Hello !

NEW JERSEY DISTRICT!

!

My name is Shinbee Park from the Capital District, and I am honored to introduce myself as your newly elected International Trustee to New Jersey, Great Alabama and Kentucky-Tennessee for this upcoming service year. I’m so excited to work with all of you; New Jersey is full of such devoted and encouraging leaders. As an International Trustee, my job is to primarily assist the Governors, District Boards and District Administrators with any objectives. My responsibilities also extends to participating in a maximum of two district visits and most importantly, representing your voices on the International level of Key Club. I also am on the Service and Education Committee, where a small group of trustees and I focus on improving the distribution and quality of resources and educating members on how to efficiently lead their clubs. One goal I hope to complete is to foster a strong relationship between the sister districts which include you, Kentucky-Tennessee and Alabama. Additionally, I will send out bi-weekly updates as well as a monthly newsletter from the International level. This will keep everyone in the same loop and informed about any important changes and regulations. A little bit about myself is that I am a rising senior from the Charter School of Wilmington in Wilmington, Delaware. I have a love for graphic designing, painting and photography. During my free time I’m usually playing around with my laptop or sipping green tea while watching YouTube. Other than Key Club, I participate in FIRST Robotics Competition where I become a robot-loving nerd! In conclusion, New Jersey District, it is a pleasure to know I will be serving alongside a compassionate, strong, influential group of volunteers and leaders. I know this year will be unforgettable and full of celebrations. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time! Let’s make this year count. !

In service and

friendship, SHINBEE PARK

The KEY Ways to Increase Membership in your CLUB Robert Acerra Past Lieutenant Governor- Division 7 & Membership Growth/Reactivation Sub-Committee Chairperson 2016-2017 Zone Administrator to the New Jersey District

Think about who the members are- As some people may be dedicated to Key Club, all members and prospective members are just teenagers, looking to do service while having fun. Think of ways and events to hold that High School Students would like to attend and have fun at. Establish Goals- Creating performance goals and standards for each individual member through the use of a point system can help prospective members and current members realize the emphasis Key Club places on participation that each and every member perform. Approach New Members with “gimmicks- Using a "gimmick" to provide incentives for people might help get prospective members to the informational meeting. Advertise this gimmick to encourage attendance. Advertise- Posters, flyers, table tents in the lunchroom, e-mail, announcements, bulletin boards, electronic bulletin boards, and personal contact are all different ways of helping your Key Club Membership Drive. Have fun- Think about what members would rather attend; volleyball games or general meetings. Having themed meetings where events and fun are held with the mandatory business will encourage all to attend. Develop a prospect list- Look for students with a desire to serve. Freshmen and sophomore should be given top priority because they are the future of any Key Club. Ask your principal, guidance counselors, teachers, and fellow club members, they may be able to know of students that would make great members. Understanding why growth is vital- Growth produces new talent, brainpower, and manpower for the club. Each year clubs lose one-fourth of their members as the seniors graduate. Growth boosts the club toward greater and more significant school and community service. Recruit Members- Attend Freshmen Orientations or visit your local middle school and allow younger and upcoming high school students learn what Key Club is all about. Love What You Do- If you truly are dedicated to Key Club and you show it to everyone you meet, many people will join the club because they will want to feel the way that you feel. All members are important- All students in your school should be able to get involved in committees and projects. If they see that there are opportunities for themselves in the Key Club, it will be the club that everyone would want to join.

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FUND In 2010, the Warren Regional High School Key Club of New Jersey saw a problem facing their community and tackled it: with the help of a $2000 grant given by the Youth Opportunities Fund. The club created a 72-plot organic vegetable and flower garden, complete with deer fence and two water pumps, in a community where little have backyards suitable for gardening. If you see a problem facing your own home, school, or community, and plan to solve that problem with a project, you can apply for the Youth Opportunities Fund to receive a grant up to $2000 for your service project. Applications come out in mid-July, so be on the lookout for your opportunity to change your community!
