Trees and the Natural Environment About
I’m an freelance photographer, based in the Scottish Borders. In recent years I have built a portfolio of images capturing trees and the natural environment, across Scotland and further afield. I’m a Trustee of Borders Forest Trust.
Experience
Colin McLean Photography was launched in 2015, after a career in Scotland’s heritage sector, latterly as Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund in Scotland, where I used powerful images as an effective tool for recording our environment and for advocacy purposes. I have worked commercially across the UK, photographing national monuments, historic buildings and places, heritage projects such as museums and galleries, gardens and the natural environment.
Recognition
My work has been exhibited in Dundee Contemporary Arts, the Royal Scottish Academy and Edinburgh City Art Centre. It has appeared in national and local print and broadcast media (I featured in a January 2022 edition of “Border Life” looking at three landscape photographers in the Borders). My images have been commissioned for books, magazines and journals and my work has been recognised with the award of a distinction from the Royal Photographic Society.
Services
I can provide still photographs, film and drone photography. I use professional grade Nikon equipment, with high-resolution stills images invariably shot on a tripod. RAW files are edited on a colour calibrated iMac and output to the size and format that suits the client’s requirements.Video material is edited and compiled in Adobe Premiere Pro and the appropriate sound-track added - either ambient sound, commentary or appropriate music - or a blend of all three.
