Hot Spot, Cool Times… The LaMissTenn District Board along with other district Key Club members traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to see what Key Club International is all about at Key Club International Convention (ICON). The convention was held at the J.W. Marriott in Phoenix and was put on by our 20102011 International Board and the Southwest Key Club District. There was so much to learn from ICON that there is no possible way to take it all in; and on the plane ride home you are wondering what else you could have done. We got to see the past International Board step down, while the new International Board took office. The Board was elected by members of the districts who participated in the House of Delegates. But before the LaMissTenn District made it to our final destination in Phoenix, we took a tour of the Grand Canyon, Montezuma Castle, and many other landmarks known in Arizona. Besides the 114 degree heat, Arizona is full of natural creations that are must-sees. We hope that we will have more travelers next year to the 2011-2012 ICON in Orlando, Florida. So be looking out for the information on lamisstennkeyclub.org.

ROJECTS leadership

inclusiveness

caring The K-Family and Unicef have teamed up to defeat a deadly disease, that kills 160 babies each day, by 2015. That deadly disease is Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus and it is easily defeated with help for Key Club members like you. For only US$1.80, three doses of immunizations can be purchased that will protect a mother and her future babies for MNT. For resources and information about this worldwide project, visit TheEliminateProject.org. I would like to push this project in our schools and clubs this year to lend a hand to the effort. If any clubs have an idea of a way to raise money for this project, please email me so that we can get all of our clubs on board.

character building

Project INSPIRE Project INSPIRE is our governor, Gabby Murphy, governor’s project. This year she hopes to raise $2000 by the end of District Convention through 2 5k run/walks and an 8 hour dance-a-thon. The $2000 dollars will go to the St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN; which is in the LaMissTenn District. Gabby got the name for her project through the children at St. Jude’s INSPIRING young adults to be stronger and thankful for the lives we have. She hopes that all LMT District Key Clubbers will help her raise her $2000 donation.

Goals for 2011–12: I want to contribute to Key Club International by working from the ground up, placing the best resources possible in the hands of our Lieutenant Governors and club officers. I also hope to make Key Club more of a household name. Key Club is absolutely amazing, and it is rather sad to see that many high school students don't know much about what it accomplishes. In fact, the lack of knowledge is most apparent in many of our members—I've seen too many Key Clubbers that don't even know anything outside of their school's club. The knowledge of there being something larger out there really inspired me to work harder as a servant leader, and I think that many others would agree. Finally, I really want to see more K-Family cooperation. By operating as isolated units, each branch of the K-Family is not optimally benefiting the global community. Joint projects between all levels would boost the already amazing achievements of the K-Family.
