The Messenger SETTLED MATTERS By Lakan Mariano
The Prophet Daniel has a thing or two to teach believers in Jesus Christ how to live in a hostile world. When offered non-kosher food by their Babylonian captors, “Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine” (Daniel 1:8). It is easy to do the right thing when you have already decided in your heart and are committed to obey the Lord Jesus no matter what. Daniel's decision was not something he had to think about and pray about when the situation confronted him. Honoring God was a settled matter for him. Fast-forward to the trap set by the governors to get Daniel killed. They convinced the king that a law be declared that cannot be altered that whoever prays to anyone except to the king for the next thirty days would be thrown into the lion's den. You would think Daniel would get be so enraged that he would mount a campaign and rally believers to petition the government to change the unjust law.
That was not what Daniel did. “But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God” (Daniel 6:10). Notice these phrases: “As usual.” “Just as he had always done.”

Praying to God three times a day was a settled matter for Daniel. Years of the simple everyday habit of speaking to his God could not be broken by a mere edict of a king. There is wisdom in Daniel going to God in prayer. Instead of blasting the plotting governors and the king on social media he went to the highest authority. He went to God. He prayed. Daniel knew who was in charge. Not the governors. Not the king. But the sovereign Creator God. The sovereignty of God was a settled matter for Daniel. It should be for all believers in Jesus Christ. ~Lakan

Crockett Elementary Christmas
Over the past several years we have developed a relationship with the teachers and staff at Crockett. Last year we started taking a step farther connecting with the students and teachers by hosting school events in our sanctuary. This year we want to take it one more step in connecting with the families by giving each student at Crockett a Christmas gift this December. Each child’s gift will include • Crockett T shirt with their school logo on it along with “CHBC Loves the Crockett Bears” • A reusable Water Bottle with their School logo on it • A Fun age appropriate toy/game • An age appropriate Bible Going off of last years numbers there were 390 Kindergarten-5th grade students. We set a budget of approximately $20 a student. At that rate we will need to raise $10,000.00! We have put together a team of 12 to lead this project, but we need the entire church to get behind us as we make plans and get things ready, here’s ways you can help: 1) There are envelopes on the Crockett Christmas Display if you would like to donate to help 2) We are having a VBS Style Boys vs Girls Change War. Drop off your coins/dollars in the jars in the foyer. We will collect change through Mid November. If the boys win Chel Smith will receive a pie in the face at our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner and if the Girls win Rex Stephenson will get the Pie in the Face! 3) You may purchase a business sponsor ship card for your donation of any amount, Available in the office. 4) There will be more fundraising opportunities coming, plus as time gets closer, we will need help sorting and packing the gifts You may contact Philip Cross for more information!
