FOREWORD
At Brisbane Boys’ College, we are committed to helping every boy develop as a whole person, fulfil his potential and help shape a shared future built on the wellbeing of individuals and communities. While we hold dear our values and history and will not compromise our fundamental principles, we cannot be captive to past practices and complacent about the future or we will not be acting in the best interests of our students. As we often say in Australia, you are only as good as your last game. We need to be open to the world and open to new ways of thinking. The pace of change in society, and the world of work, is accelerating and the influence of digital technology is profound. It is true that many of our youngest students will graduate into jobs and careers which have not yet been created. Education can equip learners with agency and a sense of purpose, and the competencies they need, to shape their own lives and contribute to the lives of others. Therefore, we must seek to develop students who not only have strong foundational knowledge but who are also critical thinkers, creative, collaborative and have agile and flexible minds. It is incumbent upon all of us at the College to embrace new ways of thinking, to be open to change, to share our knowledge and experience, and not to fall into complacency or an attitude that ‘good’ is good enough. We call this, A New School of Thought PAUL BROWN HEADMASTER
