We trust your students will have many positive academic and outside-the-classroom experiences at Pepperdine. There will inevitably be some challenges as well.

At those moments, they may ask you for advice. If your student needs support, please encourage your students to take advantage of the many campus resources available to them, such as the Chaplain in the HUB for Spiritual Life, the Counseling Center, the Student Health Center, the Student Care Team, and the resilience program-RISE. If they are experiencing a frustration or challenge with a class or program, encourage them to speak with the professor or staff member involved or, if needed, to the appropriate department. The Seaver Dean’s Office can help with academic concerns while Student Affairs can assist with other student life matters. The key for parents is to support students in handling the matter themselves. Point them to resources, but don’t try to solve their problems for them. When parents jump in too soon, they deprive their emerging adult an important developmental opportunity. Knowing how to navigate life’s challenges is an important life skill that takes practice to develop. Of course, families are always urged to call when there is an emergency or concern about safety. The Department of Public Safety may be reached at (310) 506-4441.
