GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS

David Robinson Rising 5th Graders – rising 8th Graders Session I: June 27 – July 1 • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Session II: July 11 – 15 • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $230 per session

Have you ever wanted to learn how to play the guitar? This is a class for beginners interested in exploring the world of guitar. This one-week camp will focus on learning to read standard music notation, tablature and chords. We will then apply these ideas to popular songs in many styles of music, including rock, pop, folk, country, blues and classical. School instruments will be available to use during the classes. No previous experience is required, and the course is geared toward those who have never played the instrument before.

David Robinson received his bachelor’s degree in composition and master’s degree in classical guitar performance from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is currently the director of guitar studies at Collegiate and is an adjunct professor in VCU’s music department. David maintains an active performing career in the Robinson Guitar Duo with his wife, Kathy Robinson, and is actively composing new works for the guitar and other instruments.

• Bring a healthy snack and a filled water bottle to camp each day.

Calling all dancers! Join us for a week of dancing fun! In this camp, we will explore all aspects of dance, including technique, choreography, improvisation, performance and more. Dancers will learn the fundamentals of dance while experiencing the creativity involved in the art as well. Dancers will use the technical tools they have learned throughout the week — along with inspiration from books, artwork and music — to create choreographic projects and original pieces of work. No matter the level of experience, dancers will explore, learn and have a blast in this physical and adventurous week of dance!

Participants are encouraged to wear leotards or tank tops and yoga/dance pants; no dance shoes are required. Hair should be pulled back and secured.
