YOUR ADVENTURE BEGINS YOUR ADVENTURE BEGINS YOUR ADVENTURE BEGINS AT 6,035
FT.
ake a deep breath. Feel that crisp Rocky Mountain air? At 6,035 feet, your first few days at Colorado College might leave you a bit breathless — and not just from the altitude. Picture yourself deep in conversation with new friends on a sunny afternoon, debating philosophy on Tava Quad or untangling a complex chemistry problem in a lab that’s all yours for the next three weeks. This is the Block Plan: one course at a time, three weeks of total immersion, then on to your next intellectual pursuit.
Your classmates? They’re the ones who raised the bar on class discussions in high school, who started clubs and movements, who never stopped asking “why?” Your professors? They’re right there with you—leading expeditions into the field, hosting latenight study sessions fueled by coffee and breakthrough moments, pushing you to dig deeper into every subject you explore.
This welcome package marks the beginning of your journey at CC, where learning isn’t confined to classroom walls. In the next four years, you’ll wrestle with new ideas over breakfast in Rastall, defend theories in passionate seminar discussions, and perhaps find yourself in Garden of the Gods sketching ancient geological formations in your field notebook.
Your curiosity brought you here. Your determination will help you thrive. And this remarkable community of thinkers, explorers, and creators? We’re ready to welcome you home to CC.

Gap experiences
Each year, approximately 15 percent of incoming students elect to delay the start of their CC experience by pursuing a gap year. Gap students know themselves well, are resilient and independent, and are more likely to be leaders on our campus. Some students use their gap semesters or gap years to stay home and work, volunteer full time, or travel the country or the world. If you are considering taking a year or semester off, get in touch with us to have a chat about the process.

TO OUR VALUES
Changing higher education and our culture.
Antiracism
Breaking down entrenched, systemic barriers is at the heart of CC’s diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts. Every person who walks onto our campus must feel that they belong, can contribute, and can reach their fullest potential without harm to who they are and the dreams they want to achieve. CC actively opposes racism in all forms. This antiracism commitment is crucial to changing higher education and the world for the better and is a responsibility shared among the entire CC community.
Sustainability
At CC, sustainability isn’t optional. It’s central to our community and the examples we set through all our work. We aspire to make our campus a model for sustainability at all levels, embodying our commitment to a thriving future, and honoring
the economic, social, and environmental narratives of our complex ecosystem. CC achieved carbon neutrality in 2020, and we are committed to maintaining this through campus and community-wide efforts.
Mental Health
CC is committed to raising our focus on mental health on campus to the highest level. Only when all our students, staff, and faculty can learn, work, and live in an environment that fosters mental wellness can we provide students with outstanding liberal arts education experiences and the skills and habits to lead healthy lives. Our approach to health and wellbeing is an integrated holistic one. It is designed to allow students to connect with the resources and programs that meet their needs and address the particular stressors of college life and the Block Plan.
LIFE
A tour around the block.
Where to stay
We are a residential college and living on campus is a central part of the holistic learning experience that characterizes a liberal arts education. As a new arrival, you’ll stay in one of the traditional halls known as the “Big Three.”
Campus dining
Bon Appétit, our campus food service provider, makes all its food from scratch, provides meals to fit any dietary need, and purchases at least 20 percent of its ingredients from local farmers. We have several dining options on campus, including Rastall (an all-you-care-to-eat dining hall), The Preserve, Benjamin’s (known as Benji’s), and Susie B’s Café in Tutt Library.
“I lived in Loomis my first year, and I loved it. It was a quintessential college living experience that introduced me to many of the people I’m friends with now. It honestly would have been hard to NOT make friends with most of the people living on my hall.”

Loomis Hall
Loomis Hall houses 262 students. The hall includes four complete kitchens, a classroom, TV lounge with a fireplace and piano, laundry facilities, and multiple places to hang out with friends.
Mathias Hall
Mathias Hall houses 320 students. It is home to four “Living and Learning Communities” and has great facilities such as a theater-style TV lounge, sound-proof music practice room, a bicycle storage area, outdoor basketball court and sand volleyball court, and the Local Goods convenience store.
South Hall
South Hall houses 303 students and features a 24-hour “Added-Quiet and Substance-Free” wing. The hall also has a classroom, kitchen, laundry facilities, computer room, sun deck, lounge area, and outdoor sand volleyball courts and bicycle storage.

LIFE STUDENT STUDENT STUDENT
At CC, we are committed to the holistic development of our students. By providing student-focused services and meaningful, engaging co-curricular programs, we challenge and support our students so they can grow into global citizens who will create a more just world.
Student clubs and organizations
CC is home to over 80 different student organizations. Groups like the Black Student Union, the CC Coding Club, and the Pre-Health Professions Club help students explore their passions and become more involved in the CC community. And if the club you’re looking for doesn’t exist yet, there’s always space for you to start it.
Outdoor Education
CC’s Outdoor Education Program allows you to develop leadership skills, a sense of stewardship, and self-discovery in the outdoors. Outdoor Education runs about 200 trips a year and over three dozen workshops and trainings. As a CC student, you’ll have access to the Ahlberg Gear House, which supplies every type of outdoor equipment you can imagine, the Bike and Ski Co-op, and the Ritt Kellogg Climbing Gym.

“I’ve taken on several on-campus job opportunities in the Office of Sustainability, Office of Admission, and as a Residential Advisor. These jobs help me contribute to our institution’s sustainability efforts, connect with prospective students about my CC journey, and build a supportive community for first-year students living in their residence halls.”

NEAR LEARNING LEARNING LEARNING
The Block Plan isn’t just a different way of learning – it’s a transformational intellectual adventure. When you dive into one subject at a time, you’ll find yourself engaging with complex material at a depth and pace that transforms how you think, analyze, and solve problems. Your morning might begin with intensive discussions. By afternoon, you might be conducting advanced lab work or parsing primary texts, building on the morning’s insights. This concentrated focus forges neural pathways that traditional semester systems simply cannot match.
Your professors design each block as an academic odyssey, pushing you to master sophisticated concepts in three and a half weeks. You might spend one block analyzing economic theory through the lens of local farmers’ markets, then apply geological principles to the magnificent formations at Garden of the Gods in the next. Our location in the Mountain Time Zone provides an unparalleled natural laboratory – from the Rocky Mountains to the Southwest – where abstract concepts come alive through rigorous field study.
Through the Block Plan, you’ll develop the mental stamina and analytical precision that define a CC education.
The Advising Hub
The Advising Hub at CC works to empower every student to thrive in the immersive environment of the Block Plan and to articulate the meaning and purpose of their liberal arts education. Hub professionals support each student as a whole person, developing the confidence to navigate academic pursuits, co-curricular opportunities, and post-graduate exploration, so that students can identify and pursue their educational, professional, and personal goals.

GLOBAL EDUCATION & FIELD STUDY
The Center for Global Education & Field Study empowers and supports the CC community to engage in intercultural, international, and experiential learning, and the Block Plan provides the flexibility for such opportunities. CC faculty utilize the Block Plan to allow students to experience off-campus courses in ways not possible in traditional settings. Here, field study is not just for science classes. When you combine learning with firsthand experience, you’re more likely to retain what you’ve learned.
“One of the main reasons I chose CC was for the study abroad opportunities. I really liked the idea of being able to study abroad multiple times, in multiple different places, without having to be away from campus for an entire semester or year.”
Heather Hatch ’25

Off-campus learning at CC is studying computer science at the Lawrence Livermore Research Lab in California and taking in the great works at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art. It’s exploring organismal biology in the tropical forests of Belize and examining political science in Slovakia. CC classes travel far and wide. We are committed to every student having at least one study abroad or exciting field study opportunity. There are several funding resources so that your dream class or research idea is attainable. Students choosing an off-campus study program have many options at CC, whether it’s an individual block, a CC program, or a semester or year through a partner organization. AN101/AN243 Introduction

SPRINGS
Your sunny new home.
CC is lucky to be situated in the heart of Colorado Springs – Colorado’s second-largest city. It is the gateway to urban centers on the Front Range and the foothills, peaks, and valleys of the Rocky Mountains. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, you get a culturally rich, modern city set in a vibrant, natural environment with endless opportunities to connect to the outdoors, our neighbors, and yourself.
Our 90-acre residential campus is nestled between downtown and the historic Old North End neighborhood, allowing students to take advantage of a comfortable urban setting.
“I love how CC’s campus is about a 10-minute walk to downtown, which has so many small and locally-owned businesses. One of my favorite things to do is to try new places and cuisines with my friends. If it’s nice out, we’ll walk; if it’s cold, we’ll usually call Campus Safety for a Safe Ride or take the Zero Emissions Bus. Both are super accessible!”

“The Career Center has helped me build my resume as well as practice behavioral interview questions, which I was able to use to secure a competitive internship at Lockheed Martin.
As the co-chair of the Coding Club, I have also collaborated with the Career Center to set up resume and interview workshops for members of the club to learn how to apply for an internship or position in the incredibly competitive technology industry.”
