CLASS REUNIONS Congratulations to alumni from the classes of 1962, 1972, 1977, 1978, 1982, 1983, 1987, 1992, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 who will return to celebrate reunion milestones. Music, Mountains, and Memories Homecoming Concert featuring JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound, plus student bands, Armstrong Quad Tent Headlining the Homecoming concert this year, we are thrilled to welcome Chicago’s JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound to campus for what may be the show of the year. The band bills themselves as “post-punk soul” and they are fronted with the wild funk magnetism of six-and-a-half-foot tall, afro pompadoured JC Brooks, who moves like a young James Brown and invokes a generation of music far before his 27 years. KEXP called their debut record on the legendary Bloodshot Records “A lively set of gritty old-school soul and funk injected with raw garage-rock aggression,” and they are burning up NPR and AAA radio stations with their stomping cover of Wilco’s “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” (which they performed with Jeff Tweedy at Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival).Two well-loved student and alumni bands will open. Come prepared to dance until late! Alumni tickets are $18. Student tickets available at Worner Desk. 7 - 10 p.m.

“I See Me,” Performance by Professor Andrew Manley, Whitney Electric Building Drop in between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to enjoy “I See Me,” an installation inspired by Samuel Beckett, the great 20th century playwright. Performed by Professor Andrew Manley (drama and dance). The Whitney Electric Building is located on Tejon Street next to Wooglins. 7:30 p.m.

Houston Person in Concert, Packard Hall Houston Person is a soul jazz musician known for his distinctive sassy sound and his expressive style. Tickets: KRCC members price: $15, general public tickets are $20 per person and are available at the Worner Desk in the Worner Campus Center. 9 p.m.

Movie and Popcorn on the Quad, Tutt Science Center Quad Gather your friends and bring a blanket to enjoy an outdoor screening of the 1980 classic movie, “The Blues Brothers,” starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. “The Blues Brothers” holds a special place in cult movie lovers’ hearts for a reason. It’s surreal, it’s got style, and it has great music. Indeed, it’s a cross between a “Saturday Night Live” skit and a really great musical. This event, sponsored by the Student Alumni Association (SAA), will also feature kettle corn and hot chocolate. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be in Armstrong Theater. 4

~ John Denver Horseback Riding at Bear Basin The Class of 1972 invites you to join them and Gary Ziegler ’64 for horseback riding at Gary’s Bear Basin Ranch in the Wet Mountains, 70 miles southwest of the Colorado College campus. Meet in the C1 parking lot, north of Palmer Hall, at 8:30 a.m. for carpooling and directions to Bear Basin Ranch. The group will depart promptly at 9 a.m. and arrive at the ranch at 10:30 a.m. The trail ride will begin between 11-11:30 a.m. and will finish at 4 p.m. The group should be back on campus between 6-6:30 p.m. The cost is $60 per person. Riders must be 8 or older. Please bring a lunch and plenty of water and warm clothing, including hats and gloves, in case of cold weather. No open-toe shoes or sandals. Shove Chapel received a 40,000-pound WelteTripp Organ Company concert type pipe organ in 1931. A representative of the firm stated at the time, that the instrument was the “finest organ ever built by our organization.” It was crafted “with emphasis on features of tonal and physical beauty.” Frank W. Shelton, Jr. ’73, Colorado College organist, will perform on the Shove Chapel organ during the Fifty Year Club induction ceremony on Friday and at the Alumni Association Awards Ceremony on Saturday.

Fifty Year Club Induction Ceremony for the Class of 1962, Shove Memorial Chapel President Jill Tiefenthaler and Dean of the College/Dean of the Faculty Sandra Wong present Fifty Year Club diplomas and medallions to the Class of 1962. Oscar Soule ’62 will address the class. Frank W. Shelton, Jr. ’73, Colorado College organist, will perform during the ceremony. Everyone is invited to this special ceremony to honor our distinguished alumni on their milestone reunion and induction into the Fifty Year Club. The Class of 1962 should arrive at 10:30 a.m. for brief instructions. The Fifty Year Club Annual Meeting follows at 12:30 p.m. in Bemis Hall. First Mondays on Friday: CC Music Department Showcase Concert, Packard Hall “First Mondays,” an all-campus event popular with faculty, staff, and students, makes a special appearance on the Friday of Homecoming and Parents Weekend. Music department students and faculty will host a concert showcasing the students and faculty musicians. The first half hour will feature a performance by the department’s world music ensembles – Gamelan, African Ensemble, and Bluegrass. The second half hour will feature performances by faculty and the last half hour will showcase student musicians. 3 - 5 p.m.

As the transition class, the Class of 1972 had two years under the semester system and two years under the Block Plan. Now, 42 years later, join them to see how the Plan has changed. Panelists include Professors Tim Fuller (political science), Dan Tynan (English), David Mason ’78 (English), and Professor Emeritus Don Shearn P’85, P’86, P’90, P’08 (psychology). 5 p.m.

Freedom and Authority reading and discussion, Gates Common Room, Palmer Hall Join us for a Homecoming and Parents weekend tradition based on Freedom and Authority, the popular interdisciplinary course taught at Colorado College for more than 50 years. Attendees will have a plenary session to discuss the book and then break out into smaller discussion groups led by members of the faculty. This year’s Freedom and Authority reading will be “Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion Across the Islamic World,” by Robin Wright. A decade after the 9/11 attacks, this groundbreaking book by a preeminent reporter takes readers deep into the struggle within the Muslim world where a growing movement defies and challenges extremism and repudiates Osama bin Laden, his deviant doctrine, and his violent disciples. Homecoming Convocation Alumni Association Awards, Shove Memorial Chapel President Jill Tiefenthaler and Alumni Association Board President Alan Harris ’77 will present the Benezet, Worner, Riley, and Spirit of Adventure Awards. Everyone is invited to attend this special ceremony that honors our distinguished award recipients and will feature remarks from President Tiefenthaler. The recipient of the Louis T. Benezet Award for career achievement is Henry L. Ansbacher ’92. The Lloyd E. Worner Award for remarkable efforts on behalf of the college will be presented to Robin H. Dunn ’06, Barbara J. Keener ’67, and Ariel Stiller-Shulman ’06. The Gresham Riley Award recognizing faculty, administrators, and staff who have made a significant difference to the college will be presented to Ronald W. Smith. Sylvie M. Fadrhonc ’07 will receive the Spirit of Adventure Award, given to the alumnus/a, who exemplifies the unique CC experience through a life of intellectual, social, or physical adventure. President Tiefenthaler will also present the Reunion Cup, awarded to the reunion class with the best attendance. Frank W. After the ceremony, a student and faculty Balinese gamelan ensemble will lead the processional from Shove Chapel to the All-Campus Picnic. 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The Native American Student Union (NASU) at Colorado College is a student-led organization committed to Native American leadership, pride, outreach, involvement, and awareness. NASU welcomes Levi and the Plateros to Colorado College’s 2012 Homecoming Weekend! Levi and The Plateros is a Native American family band based out of Tohajiilee, New Mexico, one of many reservations in the Southwest. Their music is a mixture of blues, rock, funk, and gospel. They have made more than 250 performances including appearances at the 2009 U.S. Presidential Inaugural Ball and the 2012 Gathering of Nations which is the largest international pow-wow in the world. Band members include Levi Platero, Douglas Platero, and Bronson Begay.

Tiger Bounce House, The Colorado Springs Cupcake Truck, face painting, and have their photo taken with Prowler, CC’s mascot. Lunch attendees will be entertained by a student and faculty Balinese Gamelan musical ensemble and dancers at noon, followed by “Levi and the Plateros,” sponsored by the Native American Student Union. CC students accompanied by their parent(s) are free, but must register in advance. Alumni, parents, and other family members must register in advance. Free for children 12 and younger. 1 – 3:30 p.m.

Registration is required to ensure your space and to help us plan a pleasant experience for you. When you register, you’ll be asked to log in to OurCC and then you’ll be taken to a secure area of the college’s website. If this is the first time you have logged into OurCC, you will need your OurCC ID number, located on the mailing label of this brochure. Please submit your registration by 5 p.m. on October 7, 2012. From August 15 – October 5, staff are available to assist you with your registration Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. On Saturday, October 6, and Sunday, October 7, staff will be available from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please call (719) 227-8171 for assistance. You will save time and money if you register in advance of your arrival on campus. An early bird registration fee of $25 per household is available from August 1, 2012 – October 7, 2012. This fee is waived only for members of the Classes of 2007-2011 who register by October 7. After October 7, a registration fee of $50 per household will apply and there will be a $10 additional fee per person, per event. We do our best to accommodate walk-ins, but cannot guarantee a seat or a meal unless you have registered by October 7, 2012. ATHLETIC EVENTS Alumni and parents may attend on-campus athletic events for free with their official Homecoming and Parents Weekend name tag. If you would like to attend hockey games, you have a few options. If alumni would like to sit with reunioning classmates, you may purchase tickets through Homecoming registration for general admission seating in the Alumni Reunion Section. Parents may also purchase tickets in the Alumni Reunion Section. A limited number of student tickets are available at the Worner Desk, so parents should communicate with their students before purchasing tickets in the Alumni Reunion Section, as the Alumni Reunion Section tickets are non-refundable. Tickets cost $12 per person for seating in sections 202 and 203, right behind the student section. Seating is limited and Alumni Reunion Section tickets must be purchased by October 5, 2012. Tickets purchased in the Alumni Reunion Section by October 5, 2012, will be available for pick-up at Registration Central in the Worner Campus Center. Everyone 2 and older must have a ticket to enter the World Arena. If you would prefer to sit in another section, or if you miss the October 5 deadline to purchase tickets in the Alumni Reunion Section, single game reserved seating tickets go on sale September 22, 2012, and can be purchased directly from the World Arena by calling (719) 576-2626, (866) 464-2626 or www.cctigers.com. Parking at the World Arena is $5. All hockey tickets are non-refundable.

BOOKSTORE DISCOUNTS The Colorado College Bookstore offers discounts on CC logo merchandise.
