In Memoriam – Jane Beard

35

Jane's grandmother owned a cottage in Chautauqua Park. Jane spent many summers there and eventually inherited the cottage. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in History and Political Science, and remained friends with many of her sorority sisters. At one time she was a travel agent with Pan American World Airways, which began her lifelong fascination with going on African safaris and earned her the nickname Bwana Jane. Jane divided her time between Texas and Colorado. She was always a volunteer and was active in Dallas, working at a hospital (she was recently honored for 42 years of service), on the children's concerts of the Dallas Symphony, and for the local chapter of the Humane Society. She almost always had at least four dogs. During Colorado summers, she was very involved with the Music Festival. She was in charge of stocking apartments for musicians for many years. She was more recently involved in the Young People's Concert and acted as the Head Wrangler for the last few years. She was instrumental in getting the fabulous YPC animal costumes organized and stored in weatherproof and animal-proof bins. She lent her support by underwriting both the Festival of Dinners and the YPC, and assisting with other events such as the Family Fun Concerts and Master Classes. She was a sustaining Friends member, a member of the Legacy Club, and a donor to the Endowment Fund. She was honored as CMF & RMCMA Friends Volunteer of the Year in 2011. We all will miss Jane and the contributions that she made in so many different ways to the CMF & RMCMA!
