DEAR
CMF MUSIC LOVERS :
Michael Christie, Music Director

o
Time really does fly when you are having fun! Ten years ago, I appeared on the Chautauqua stage as the Colorado Music Festival’s second Music Director. I had decided to find ways to bolster the festive feeling of CMF, while programming for aficionados and new friends alike. While our audience was intrigued to experience the new direction, the weather was content to reserve judgment on my appointment, providing night after night of intense rain! Since that opening season, “Variety is Key” has permeated everything we do and the response from our community could not be more inspiring. Our ticket sales have increased 70% since 2001 and we’ve added many exciting features for patrons of all ages, including our recent merger with Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts, our longstanding “Education and Outreach” partner. In celebration of all that we have achieved together, I offer you our 2010 season, my 10 th as Music Director. You will notice that on several occasions we specifically look back to great achievements of the past, but perhaps more notable are the projects that signal our future resolve. Great friends of the CMF such as pianist Orion Weiss and Didgeridoo artist William Barton are joined by a list of classical and world music artists that would make any arts presenter envious. The most important part of the summer is our personal contact with you. Festival-goers enjoy unprecedented access to our performers, whether through free open rehearsals or bumping into your favorite musician near the box office or “backstage.” As we enter our second decade together, there will be even more exciting ways for you to own our journey and spur us to even greater levels of success. I hope you will enjoy the variety and scope of our six-week musical journey!

We’re calling it a season, but it’s really more of an adventure – a musical adventure conducted by Michael Christie, a tour guide we’re proud to have as our Music Director.
The CMF Festival Orchestra is celebrating 10 years with Maestro Michael Christie. To mark this celebration, the Festival Orchestra will reminisce with Schumann’s Konzertstuck for Four Horns, Op. 86, the first piece conducted by Michael Christie as the Music Director of CMF, and a piece that showcases the remarkable virtuosity of CMF’s horn section. The festivities continue with a New Year’s style Night in Vienna featuring Strauss Family Waltzes and Polkas, perfect pieces to celebrate 10 years with the CMF family.

They carry a passion for improvisation, composing and arranging, all prime elements of the ensemble’s playing. Also on the program is Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Grofé’s majestic Grand Canyon Suite.

SERENADE NO. 2 | SYMPHONY NO. 4
Sunday, July 18 Michael Christie and the CMF Chamber Orchestra present Brahms’ Serenade No. 2 and Symphony No. 4. The convergence of cultural programming within a stunning natural environment was an integral part of the Chautauqua movement of the late 19 th and early 20th centuries. CMF is proud to continue this tradition, and encourages concertgoers to explore the beauty of Chautauqua Park, enjoy a pre-concert picnic, and indulge in the rich cultural programming available year-round. In February of 2006, Chautauqua Park was added to the list of National Historic Landmarks.
The Colorado Music Festival is committed to providing our patrons with convenient transportation options and parking solutions. We’re happy to once again work in collaboration with Go Boulder, Special Transit, the Colorado Chautauqua Association, and other partners to provide FREE shuttle service for all CMF performances.
Box Office The CMF Box Office is located in the kiosk on the Chautauqua grounds between the Auditorium and Dining Hall. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 90 minutes before all concerts for night-of-performance tickets only. The Box Office phone is 303-440-7666.
Ticket Exchanges All ticket exchanges must be made in person, at the CMF Box Office, during regular Box Office hours, Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please note that tickets may be exchanged only once.
Talks Under The Tent Join musicians, journalists, scholars and other guests for informative FREE pre-concert talks under the CMF Tent on the north side of the Auditorium. Offered every Sunday and Thursday evening (except opening night) at 6:30 p.m.
20
On nights of performance, two shuttles will run continuous loops, approximately every 15 minutes, beginning at 5:30 p.m. (9:00 a.m. for Young People’s Concerts) until concerts begin at 7:30 p.m., and reverse the process after each performance. One shuttle will loop from downtown, starting at 13th and Pearl, and up 9 th Street to the north side of Chautauqua Park. (Note: This route will require a short walk, uphill, from drop off on Baseline to the Auditorium.) The other shuttle will loop from the 27th Way Park ‘N Ride (at 27th and Broadway, just south of Basemar) up Baseline Road for drop off on the east side of the Auditorium. Both routes will include additional stops, marked by the Go Boulder symbol on RTD signs.
