‘The hard must become habit. The habit must become easy. The easy must become beautiful.’ ~ Doug Henning Our epicurean magicians, Chef Corey Buck of John’s Restaurant and Master Sommelier Brett Zimmerman of the Boulder Wine Merchant, have discovered the inherent beauty in wine and food pairings─both difficult and easy. During appetizers, Brett will discuss what wines and foods don’t work well together. Then, as the meal progresses, you’ll enjoy two different, yet perfect, wine selections with each course. Much care has gone into the preparation of this special evening that will stimulate all your senses. Don Grusin, a Grammy-winning musician and composer, and Leigh Holman, Director of Opera at the University of Colorado, will entertain you with musical selections highlighted by an original composition that Don wrote just for this event.

The renowned jazz pianist Marcus Roberts will join the Orchestra for a special performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor sings Ravel’s Scheherazade here before travelling to Edinburgh to perform it with Esa-Pekka Salonen. Violinists Karen Gomyo, Henning Kraggerud, Chad Hoopes, James Ehnes and The Mark O’Connor Quartet will perform portions of the Violin Mini-Festival with works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Piazzolla, Sibleius, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. We are excited for the return of the acclaimed ensemble Time for Three, who form a blend of genres that always amazes. Ansel Adams: America, composed by Chris and Dave Brubeck, is accompanied by 102 large-screen images of his work. The Marcus Roberts Trio will perform a Festivalcommissioned World Premiere by Patrick Zimmerli, winner of last season’s “Click” program contest. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra's multi-media Beyond the Score® debuts in this region with Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. Premiering in Colorado is Marcel Tyberg's twomovement completion to Schubert's “Unfinished” Symphony.

Chamber Music at the Yard returns this season with two chamber music concerts at Rembrandt Yard Art Gallery, on the northeast corner of 13th and Spruce Streets. Colorado Music Festival musicians perform a variety of chamber music repertoire featuring American composers. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) awarded the Festival a grant to perform American Masterpieces. The concerts will feature Steve Reich’s Different Trains. The New York Times hailed Different Trains as “a work of such astonishing originality that breakthrough seems the only possible description .... possesses an absolutely harrowing emotional impact.” The concerts will also feature Fiddler’s Tale (1998), composed by Grammy-winning artist Wynton Marsalis. The work is Marsalis’ reinterpretation of Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale and is scored for the same group of instruments. The narration, written by American music and cultural critic Stanley Crouch, will be performed by the award-winning Denver Theater group, Stories on Stage. This year’s chamber music concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, and Wednesday, July 27, respectively. For tickets to any individual CMF concert, please visit www.COmusic.org after April 15, or go to the ticket kiosk near the auditorium at Chautauqua after May 9.
