MONDAY WRAP Western Province Chinese Association October 27 2014
WESTERN PROVINCE CHINESE ASSOCIATION FUND RAISING held at Chinese Community Centre on 26 OCTOBER 2014 Fundraising lunch has come and gone. After many many years of having the Fund Raising Dinners on Sunday evenings, it was decided to change the function to lunch and this was successfully done on 25 October 2014. It was heartwarming to see all the regulars from previous years and encouraging to see all the new guests enjoying the meal and atmosphere and determined to spread the word. Most patrons were happy with the change and were looking forward to the next lunch date. We had 250 paying guests. The raffle was well supported and so was the bar. Final figures are not in yet. This was one of the better organized fundraisers. Final day is the result of crazy behind the scenes preparations. Thanks must go to the community for pitching in for the preparation, table laying, cooking and serving during the week and on the day. WPCA, WPCSA, CCF and members of the community helped in ALL areas and I think the Saturday afternoon setup was done in a RECORD time (Could be something to do with WP rugby as the Final was at 5.00pm) 28 Tables and decor etc were set from 3.30pm and we walked out of the hall at 4.45pm. Proves that many hands can make light work. It does not matter how small you contributed, it all goes back into the upkeep of the Community Centre. We would like to thank Daphne Manley for the Chinese Food hamper from Ding Ho, Robert Wong for the Targus Computer case and Charles Bertoni’s bottle of Port which was auctioned and sold for R360.00 which will be donated to CANSA. THANK YOU ALL. Please forward this to ALL concerned. PS One table did complain. They said the food was excellent, however the salad was cold. Obviously we did not serve salad, and I noticed many EMPTY bottles on their “joined” tables so I wittingly replied: Wait till we serve the hot ice-cream and the curried milkshakes. Needless to say, they burst out laughing and ask when the next fundraiser was going to be.
