We’re delighted to welcome you to The Ocean House, where timeless coastal elegance meets world-class hospitality. Nestled on the shores of Watch Hill, our iconic resort offers breathtaking views, luxurious accommodations, and unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re here to relax by the Atlantic, indulge in exceptional dining, or explore the charm of coastal New England, we’re here to make your stay truly exceptional. Welcome home.
Opened in 1868 just after the Civil War, the Ocean House is famously known for its warm yellow facade and stunning views of the Atlantic. Ocean House welcomed guests for 135 years, but as with many historic hotels, over time, neglect took its toll. The Ocean House was closed in 2003 when it was deemed beyond feasible repair. In 2004 a new structure replicating the original exterior design was conceived. Today, this much-loved beach hotel has been recreated to convey the romance of its storied past and the rich character of Watch Hill, Rhode Island.
Viewed from the outside, all of the resort’s 247 windows remain in their original positions. More than 5,000 salvageable artifacts and furnishing elements were lovingly harvested from the original structure’s historic interior.
The lobby is filled with natural light, elegant coastal décor, and plush seating areas—perfect for unwinding with a view of the ocean. Cozy up by the fireplace with a book or just take in the classic New England charm.
The Suites at The Ocean House are the epitome of coastal luxury and New England charm. They are designed for comfort, relaxation, and refined seaside living. Each suite blends classic coastal decor with modern amenities, offering a warm and welcoming escape.
Take a Dip! Enjoy our heated, saltwater indoor lap pool located on the hotel’s lower level, adjacent to the Ocean & Harvest Spa.
Our luxury screening room features cinema-quality technology, three tiers of plush theater seating and, best of all, freshly popped popcorn. Enjoy showings of old and new favorite films.
Our private white-sand beach along the Atlantic Ocean, offers sweeping, unobstructed views of the water and Block Island Sound. With its gentle surf and soft sand, it’s ideal for leisurely walks, sunbathing, or simply soaking in the salty sea breeze.
Ocean House offers a variety of restaurants that elevate traditional New England flavors into something entirely new. Fresh local ingredients, world-class service and a farm-to-table philosophy harmonize to create a culinary experience unlike any other.
- A Legend On the Water
Step aboard the iconic Aphrodite yacht, an elegant and sleek 74-foot “Commuter Yacht” that launched in 1937. This completely restored vessel once carried luminaries that include Shirley Temple, Fred Astaire, Nelson Rockefeller and President Roosevelt. After nearly being lost to history, Aphrodite came into the possession of Ocean House owner and proprietor, Charles “Chuck” Royce, who began a complete restoration of the yacht, and re-launched her in 2005.
Our Croquet Lawn is a magical gathering space for family and friends to participate in this timeless Rhode Island activity that can be enjoyed at every age and skill level.
The Watch Hill Lighthouse has served as a nautical beacon for ships since 1745, when the Rhode Island colonial government constructed a watchtower and beacon during the French and Indian War and Revolutionary War.
